Thus spake Patrick Dahiroc:
This is the message that apt-get dist-upgrade gave me:
WARNING: The following essential packages will be
removed
This should NOT be done unless you know exactly what
you are doing!
sysvinit util-linux (due to sysvinit)
should i install back sysvinit and util-linux after
Hopefully you haven't already done the upgrade - these are eseential,
and your box won't boot without them. Try changing your sources.list,
updating, and then getting apt-utils, libc6, and dpkg. Then procced
with the dist-upgrade. It should go smoother with a new apt. If it
still insists on removing these, try apt-get installing them to
upgrade their versions and then retry the dist-upgrade. If all else
fails, go with dselect - it tends to be smarter.
Good luck,
Steve
