xserver-vga16, it's required to use the GUI anyway.

Good luck with dselect. I use it, but most developers won't because of how
hard they find it to use. So far, everyone seems to like apt, but it's not
finished yet.

It's "XF86Setup". I don't recall where it lives offhand (and my
computer is in an odd state at the moment, needing re-installs of the MS
OSs on my tri-boot 95/NT/Linux machine; anyway, I can't get to my Linux
partitions right now [under NT]). XF86Setup is in root's path on my
system, and I don't think I've modified said path.

As has been mentioned, dselect can do this. Yell if you have problems.

You could fire up dselect & make the offending package "on hold", which
is the character "=". When/if a new version comes out, mark it back as
"install" ("*").

SuSE has developed some additional X servers, one of which is for
Permedia II (I'm using it successfully with a Diamond Fire GL 1000 Pro).
Check out http://www.suse.de/XSuSE/XSuSE_E.html for more information.
If you need any assistance setting it up, let me know and I'll see if I
can help.

1998-05-20 Thread Shaleh
I will take the easy one. Dselect (and apt) will compare your package
list against the ftp site's package list and suggest updates. Simply
start dselect in ftp mode, tell it to "update", then go to "select" at
the top will be listed any new or changed packages. I use this almost
nightly.

X windows, Dselect, and then some...

1998-05-20 Thread Athas Nikolakakos
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

When ever I have a problem I add it to this file, and send it out every so
often.. Any help on any of these questions would be very very very (did I
stress that enough, one more =) very helpful!

(1) What is the graphical configuration utility for Xfree86 called ( and
where is it)?

(2) I've tried to find graphics drivers for my AccelGraphics (permedia II
chip set) by 3d labs, but I have been unsuccessful. I did find one, but it
had .xqa files w/o no readme on how to install it. It kinda looked like a
windows .ini file listing all RAMDACs, Resolutions, megahertz. Any ideas?

(3) Is there a program that will compare packages installed on my system to
current packages on the FTP site and suggest / download all upgrades?

(4) In dselect I accidentally told it to re-download a file which was
already on my system. However the file is 17 megs, and I don't want to
download it. Everytime I try to download un-related packages it insists on
asking me if I want to resume it, then does it any way.

Any help would be much beneficial. If you feel this is to personal for the
list by all means please send it to me personally to help control overflow
of messages

Again I thank you,
Athas
