There are bugs filed against all of the stupidities of the CVS version that
was uploaded. None of them are mine, so it's not my place to upgrade or
downgrade them. Individually they're not RC, but the total would seem to
 be telling.

I ask because we have over 1 packages in Debian, and it's impossible
to keep track of unreleaseable things when people just mention them on
mailing lists. The way to communicate to the release team that something
shouldn't be released is to have an RC bug.

(speaking as a release assistant)

The DPL banged on the apsfilter maintainer, and we went from one that
worked but had several wishlist and minor bugs, to one that has a grave bug
filed and doesn't work. Then *he* vanished again. Perhaps if the DPL
bangs on the a2ps maintainer, the reverse will occur, since we already have
 the broken one.

Well, Martin wasn't doing that with his DPL hat on, but as a QA person.
I'm sure you could mail him about both of these, though ...

Cheers,

There is no new way... as you'll note if you actually bother to look at
the BTS, there are numerous bugs filed since the maintainer uploaded a
broken CVS version and then effectively disappeared. IMHO Sarge shouldn't
release with this mess in it, but I'm not the release manager.

Why is there no release-critical bug filed if it's unreleaseable in its
current form?

Step back to the non-CVS version and you'll be fine. You think you need to
be running unstable, so you know how to do that, right?

I sent the maintainer and debian-qa emails a while ago asking them to
just revert to the N-1 version in sid and put this horribly broken one
 in experimental or something.

The reason why that didn't happen is because reverting is painful: you
have to introduce an epoch, which then has to stay around in the
package's version number forever. Or else you have to introduce some
very ugly versioning scheme.

Has anyone actually investigated the bugs and come up with fixes?
Perhaps upstream?

Well, a2ps hasn't had an upstream release (v4.13) since March 2000, and I
don't know where it's CVS lives, or I'd look and see when the last commit
was. For me, anyway, it's feature-complete, so it's not like I need
anything beyond a working 4.13 (well, a fix for the stupid
spaces-in-filenames bug would be nice).

Googling... ah, it's hosted on Savannah. That makes sense, should have
thought of that on my own. ^_^ Last entry in its ChangeLog is dated
2003-01-15. None of the craziness that was apparently done to it in the
uploaded version is described therein.

Archives of its mailing list are apparently dead.

I haven't tried mailing the upstream maintainer.

I'm getting tired of keeping it on hold since September. Can't a DD
simply snag the N-1 version from snapshot.debian.net and fix it?

a2ps borders problem after upgrade

2004-02-10 Thread Petr Vanek
hello,

i am trying to find out what happened with a2ps in unstable. recently
after upgrade it does not react to command line switches like
--borders=no , so i always print borders and headers even i don't want
to. i suspect changes in config files, but am unable to find the new
way of setting it up - neither on local man/doc files or a2ps homepage.

any idea?
