apt [strange error]

2000-05-11 Thread kriptic
the other day i tried using dselect to upgrade as normal,
this is what i saw when trying to [I]nstall

Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
E: The package checker needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an
archive for it.
Some errors occurred while unpacking. I'm going to configure the
packages that were installed. This may result in duplicate errors
or errors caused by missing dependencies. This is OK, only the errors
above this message are important. Please fix them and run [I]nstall again
Press enter to continue.

installation script returned error exit status 100.
Press enter to continue.

then i tried to use apt-get dist-upgrade and i got this

Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
E: The package checker needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an
archive for it.

i tried using dpkg and it works fine, but i reinstalled dpkg and apt to
insure it wasnt a broken package, i asked on irc.debian.org and no one
could help... PLEASE help me get apt working
thanks

daniel

This means the package 'checker' is in a state that is defined to require
dpkg --unpack on the original .deb to get out of. APT is telling you that
it cannot find that .deb to unpack so checker can be fixed.

You will have to do some manual things with dpkg to fix the checker
package, probably removing it with a forcing option.

Apt strange error!!!

2000-04-30 Thread Paulo Henrique Baptista de Oliveira
Hi all.
My friend has a Debian potato machine and there is occorring the
following error:

amora:/home/luke# apt-get update
Reading Package Lists... Error!
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList
/var/state/apt/lists/home_mirror_debian_dists_stable_main_binary-i386_Packages

E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

This file that it shows is the Packages.gz descompacted, the same as
debian/dists/frozen/main/binary-i386/Packages.

What can be wrong and how to fix this?

Thanks,Paulo Henrique
