Yes, shouldn't be a problem. 

I'm not sure how to disable or configure the sounds outside of GNOME
though.

(Also, depending on if the application uses GTK2 or 3 you probably need
different versions of the canberra library)

GTK+ uses canberra to play event sounds (on errors dialogs etc).

It isn't serious at all and can be fixed by installing the canberra
library.

canberra-gtk-module not loaded?

   I have just installed the stable jessie using netinst on a laptop.  When I 
run certain programs, I am getting a message "canberra-gtk-module not loaded."  
How do I fix this?   How serious is it?
