wodim does not support to write DVDs.

Please tell that the the DVDs it has successfully burned on my system.

Note that wodim only writes complete images. You still have to create
them somehow. See the other tools mentioned in the thread.

wodim (cdrecord) is the most used base package, but there
are various cli frontends, including:

mybashburn (I found this one flaky)
burn
cdw

there is also cdrskin, which uses libburn, as well as some
specialized tools for backup or audio cd burning (just take
a look at the reverse depends for wodim).

This list is from sid, I don't know if they are all in stable.

Cheers,
Kelly Clowers

wodim.

wodim does not support to write DVDs.

wodim is a dead fork from an extremely outdated cdrecord release where the
working DVD support from the original software was replaced by something half
baken.

If you like to use working software, use a recent original from

ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/alpha/

Upgrading to recent original software let's you also get rid of the
illegal fork

Then how am I able to burn DVDs, even though I do not have cdrecord
installed?

I use `growisofs' from the `dvd+rw-tools' package for DVDs. I don't
think it words for CDs, unfortunately. It is unfortunate because I like
it a lot better than wodim.

I thought the package dvd+rw-tools was required to write DVDs. No?

Brasero, which I use, depends on wodim, but I don't see dvd+rw-tools
in either the Depends:, Recommends: or Suggests:.

Anyway, these are the only binaries in dvd+rw-tools:
/usr/bin/rpl8
/usr/bin/dvd+rw-mediainfo
/usr/bin/dvd+rw-format
/usr/bin/dvd+rw-booktype
/usr/bin/growisofs
/usr/bin/btcflash
/usr/bin/dvd-ram-control
