Help me get dselect through this firewall
Hello, In order to update my system I want dselect to ftp into one of the debian mirrors. The problem is that the interface to our firewall is kind of unique. It goes like this: local_host% ftp firewall Name: [EMAIL PROTECTED] local_userid Password: remote_password Account: local_password In answering Name I have to type two things in the same line. Is there some place where the login procedure to the firewall can be customized? (Note, I tried apt also with no success :( Thank you, Pedro I. Wish I knew that back when I was behind the thing : Anyhow, if I have the time I might add an option for those kind of firewalls.. FTP over HTTP-Proxy should be a last resort kind of thing anyhow.. I know in my case (ANS Interlock) it didn't work. And it wasn't for lack of trying let me tell you! It asks for a username and password, and then you have to type quote site sitename and then the remote sites username and password if any. FTP over HTTP-Proxy should be a last resort kind of thing anyhow.. Perhaps the best way would just be to integrate Deity with expect or some such scripting language so people with these oddball setups can work it out for themselves. BTW, anyone have Debain mirrored that can be accessed with a web server? I do. But it's behind a firewall. :-( -- Jaldhar -- TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM THIS MAILING LIST: e-mail the word unsubscribe to [EMAIL PROTECTED] . Trouble? e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] .

That's because the firewall made you authenticate to it first. Having dpkg-ftp know how to deal with those firewalls would be a plus, but then certain files better have theirs bits set right, because your password is going to be in one of them. It's hard to make things like that totally automatic. Shaya -- TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM THIS MAILING LIST: e-mail the word unsubscribe to [EMAIL PROTECTED] . Trouble? e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] .

My only fast net access was at work behind a formidable firewall. After tediously working my way through a couple of hundred packages (Thank God it wasn't the 1000+ of today!) I thought there had to be a better way. So I wrote an http method for dselect. I actually used lynx to do the transfer because you can specify a proxy configuration in its setup. It did work but it wasn't very polished. With Deity on its way and CDs going for as little as $3.99, there is probably not much point but if people think it could be useful, I don't mind starting work on it again. -- Jaldhar -- TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM THIS MAILING LIST: e-mail the word unsubscribe to [EMAIL PROTECTED] . I'm trying to get my girlfriend's Debian machine updated to 1.3 but so far its been a real pain because she is behind a corporate firewall and I have to manually ftp the files. Is there any way to configure deselect to go through the firewall? Dftp was able to go through firewalls with FTP proxies. I haven't personally used that code in well over a year, but it's probably still functional. dselect through a firewall?
I'm trying to get my girlfriend's Debian machine updated to 1.3 but so far its been a real pain because she is behind a corporate firewall and I have to manually ftp the files. Is there any way to configure deselect to go through the firewall? in case this helps, netscape is setup for proxy like: gate.machine port 80 and you can ftp using [EMAIL PROTECTED] and then when it asks for username you type [EMAIL PROTECTED] she doesn't have direct access to any outside machine. anyone have any ideas? When I was using that firewall. I set up the machine I was ftp'ing to in dselect as the firewall. I set the username to [EMAIL PROTECTED], and the password as [EMAIL PROTECTED] You then set up the directories as normal. Did this make sense, sorry I'm in a rush.
