Aliases can't, AFAIK, be exported like variables.
You could make a small wrapper-script in ~/bin.
(Check that ~/bin is on your path).

(with '!') it won't recognize the alias.

On the shell prompt OTOH, this works as always. Is it that alias'd
commands don't get exported to mutt or what?
