Ouch!

At least you have 50% of the problem solved... and ~10 MiB less of
available hard disk space O:-)

I would open a bug report in Debian stating the problem with Gimp, and
don't forget to point to the referred bug of Firefox (as they can be
related).

well, i hoped i could thank you for pushing me into it, but
while my firefox icons are back (yay), gimp's still without its proper
status bar.

i updated the title bar to accommodate, but i still wish for a
real solution. thanks for trying, guys.

This is not a bulletproof science :-), you try and see how it goes.

(IIRC, both GIMP and Iceweasel use tango icons by default)

Installing the suggested package will not have any bad consequences (it
will take about ~10 MiB of disk space but nothing more).

yes, i found those bug reports... but there's no mention of gimp

Almost surely yes. This has also been reported in the Debian BTS
already: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=597694.

See the end of the bug log for a workaround that yours truly has
chosen.

Good link, it points to these bugs (gnome and mozilla):

Missing icons
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=629878

Missing icons with gtk+-2.22
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=621962

Maybe you are facing those? :-?

firefox & gimp buttons missing - gtk issue?

2011-04-10 Thread i'll teach you to turn away.
hi guys. i'm having some trouble with what appears to be a gtk
issue with firefox & gimp. in short, buttons are missing. the firefox
one is less annoying than gimp's, but they both happened at the same
time so i figure they must be linked. i'm on an amd64 running
enlightenment, & i upgrade with stable/testing, but my
/etc/debian_version says wheezy/sid. *shrug*. here are the versions:

Mozilla Iceweasel 3.5.18, Copyright (c) 1998 - 2011 mozilla.org
GNU Image Manipulation Program version 2.6.7

here are firefox's errors on startup:
-
(firefox-bin:8241): Gtk-WARNING **: Error loading theme icon
'gtk-go-back-ltr' for stock: Icon 'gtk-go-back-ltr' not present in
theme

(firefox-bin:8241): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_ref:
assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

(firefox-bin:8241): Gtk-WARNING **: Error loading theme icon
'gtk-go-forward-ltr' for stock: Icon 'gtk-go-forward-ltr' not present in
theme
-

& as it says, the forward & back buttons are missing. i found
this: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=835978 but installing
gnome-icon-theme didn't solve the problem.

gimp's worse. you probably know it's supposed to look like this
as a normal window: http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-image-window.html -
note the buttons at the bottom of the window. but here's how mine looks:
http://compunction.dyndns.org/broken.jpg - no status buttons, & it'll
often not even say that much info while i'm working on the image.

here's gimp's startup error:
-
(gimp:9777): GLib-WARNING **:
/tmp/buildd/glib2.0-2.28.4/./glib/goption.c:2132: ignoring no-arg,
optional-arg or filename flags (8) on option of type 0 GIMP-Error:

(gimp:9777): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_box_pack: assertion `child->parent ==

-

& when opening an image, this is what i get:
-

`icon_info != NULL' failed

(gimp:9777): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_icon_info_load_icon: assertion

(gimp:9777): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_icon_info_load_icon: assertion

such file or directory

(gimp:9777): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to set the permissions of
`/home/crank/.local/share/recently-used.xbel', but failed: No such file
or directory
-

does anyone have any ideas on correcting this? neither issue
impairs my abilities to work, but they're both mighty annoying to work
AROUND. i still spend most of my day in CLI, so i'm pretty GUI dumb
overall. thanks in advance for any help.
