It reminds me of the MS Exchange server at work. My lab is all unix
mail. It is always very humorous to get the exchange message user X
would like to recall message Y from a user who thinks that will work.
I and others usually go, okay, here is your message Y back and send
it back to them. :-) Recall messages don't work either.

quanto ao roteamento com o OSPF eu recomendaria o Zebra ao invés do gated,
mas eh preferencia pessoal... o Zebra faz mais coisas, tipo bgp, e tem uma

Hiya,

I'm trying to get gated working on an fresh installed woody.
It compiles with no errors but I can't even bring gated to check

I'm still on the default installation Kernel. My question now is
there something in the kernel that need to be turned on for making
gated happy. Or any other ideas ? O, it is gated 3.6

Thanks,

What do i have to do, to get an internet connection on the other one.

I thought about gated, but I dont know, how to configure it.

I assume you have just one IP. Then you can use IP-Masquerade. There is
a mini-howto describing how it works and how to set it up. IIRC to get
the basics work you only have to load some modules

modprobe ip_masq_ftp
modprobe ip_masq_raudio
modprobe ip_masq_irc
modprobe ip_masq_cuseeme
modprobe ip_masq_vdoline

and adjust it like this:

ipfwadm -F -p deny
ipfwadm -F -a m -S 192.168.1.0/24 -D 0.0.0.0/0
   ^^
192.168.1.0 is the adress of the localnet. So you might have to replace
it with yours. 24 means class c network. See the howto for the values of
the other network classes if needed.

Hope it helps,
Thomas

If your entire network has all valid IP addresses then you use gated.
If not then you need to use IP masq.

routed in netstd and gated compilation problems.

1997-07-11 Thread Karl Ferguson
Hi.

I've been trialing the routed included in netstd and it seems _very_ broken
to the point of not establishing routes in the table when one needs to be
added. I believe that from reports about 'routed' on the Internet that
people don't use it because of this and 'gated' is a very powerful and
versitile replacement. Perhaps either gated can be provided as part of
netstd - though a seperate package would be a better way to go.

Now, even more interesting problem - I'm having trouble compiling gated
would you believe :-) Please keep in mind that I'm no programmer, but
these are the errors I get, and again, wouldn't you know it - right near
the end of the compilaton:

parse.o: In function `parse_where':
parse.o(.text+0x56b): undefined reference to `yylineno'
parse.o(.text+0x591): undefined reference to `yylineno'
lexer.o: In function `yylex':
lexer.o(.text+0x327): undefined reference to `yylineno'

If someone can help me on this gated compilation issue it'd proboly be best
to keep it off the list.

Re: gated file

1997-06-06 Thread Richard L Shepherd
I have now compiled gated (tried on another machine and it went no
problems, thought they were the same configstrange), and got it
running---good. I have installed it on our internet exchange and it
listens to BGP nicely, including supernets---very good (no other OS's can
do that, that we have).

However: it does not seem to understand variable length subnet masks, as
given to it by the BGP server? Instead it sets the BGP server as it's
next hop for those nets. I would MOST like to solve this. Is it a
problem with gated (I used options VARIABLE_MASKS), or is it a kernel
feature I need to explicitly turn on?

The way most of our other hosts cope with this problem is that they
receive a redirect from the BGP server so that they get the correct route
next time. However my linux machine doesn't seem to learn these redirect
routes and continues to go the long way for these nets every single time!
This is not fatal, just rather inefficient! This would not be an issue if
the first problem was solved but, if it can't be, this would be a second
best option ;-)

Does anyone have solutions to these? PLease reply by email as well...TIA

Have you tried asking the gurus on the gated mailing list?

gated

1997-06-04 Thread Richard L Shepherd
Does anyone know of a good set of sources AND patch(es) (if necessary) for
gated for linux? I mirror the gated sources here and have just tried
building it on Debian 1.2, kernel 2.0.29 (from bo) using the patches for
gated 3.6A2 I got some time ago from ftp.redhat.com. I guess it would be
even better if gated was packaged for Debian (hint hint) but I'm happy to
build it from sources IF it'l build!

I have previously successfully done this (redhat 3.0.3, kernel 2.0.0) but
now it seems broken (with my more up-to-date Debian). Anyone got pointers
to better stuff than me?

TIA
