You should be able to use chmod a+x filename. But please be aware of the security implications of doing this before taking this step (is the application meant to be run only as root?). Mandrake 10 was released in 2004, so it's now 7 years old, and full of security holes. Running mozilla as root is an invitation to all sorts of nasties.
