3c509b and dos utility to disable PnP; or isapnptools
What would be better, disabling PnP for 3c509b using the DOS utility from http://www.3com.com ? or use isapnptools? I would like to hear some opinions before proceeding. I was about to install isapnptools when I saw the warning in the lower half of the screen (dselect, 2.2rev3) about some potential nasty consequences. Thanks, AR

I have used 3c5x9utils , works okay, but for trouble free performance, for me, I am using kernels with the module (3c509) compiled in. Re: New isapnptools doesn't like my old conf
pnpdump doesn't generate those extra three lines - those were put in manually as instructed by the docs for isapnptools, I believe. If I comment out the two under the first - isapnp runs with no errors - however, I can't verify that it works since my sound suddenly broke as I mentioned with an earlier upgrade of modutils. On a side note - the card is from my very own first computer( i.e. not my father's 386 ;-) ) that my pop bought for me back in '96 I believe. So it's not /too/ old I guess. isetr0 On Mon, Oct 09, 2000 at 09:26:16AM -0300, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Have you tried to use pnpdump again? Is there a deb isapnptools package? I'm trying to set up kernel 2.2.16 to autoconfig my soundcard and it's not showing anything about isapnp in dmesg. I think I've got all the swithces right, and I've gotten it to autoload the modules for my yamaha oplsax soundcard before. any help or suggestions appreciated. thanks
Re: isapnptools
Yes, there is... apt-get install isapnptools. Basically what you need to do is type (as root) pnpdump /etc/isapnp.conf and then edit that isapnp.conf file to comment out the correct settings for your sound card. Refer to the documentation in /usr/share/doc/isapnptools. Take my advice with a grain of salt, because I couldn't get isapnptools + OSS/Lite kernel modules to work for me in Debian (for my AWE64), and I had to resort to alsa drivers to get my sound card to work. (And if anyone would like to help me get the OSS/Lite drivers to work, I'd appreciate it) Tom On Fri, Aug 04, 2000 at 03:19:17PM -0700, Dale Morris wrote: Is there a deb isapnptools package?
Hello Paul! You have luck, it's me, the awe-howto maintainer. Next time, you should really sent your questions to me :) You need to edit the isapnp.conf file, as described in my howto. You have to uncomment the correct lines (don't forget the ACT Y lines), and to add two lines with IO adresses. You need the awe-drv package, correct. There are other packages, too, but don't install awe-netscape for now. (is it still broken?). Then you need to apply the awe patch to the kernel-source (hint: /usr/src/awe-drv/install.sh) and compile the kernel. Add sound to conf.modules,a nd you are mostly done. isapnptools confusion.
Hello my debian friends, I just got a pentium II with an awe64 sound card, and I want to have sound capability. I know I have to recompile the kernel for this to work. I also know that I have to use isapnptools. I am running slink (2.0) kernel version 2.0.33 (from the base disks) I have not recompiled the kernel yet for sound support. I read the awe-sound-howto and other relavent documentaion. I followed it upto a certain point. What I have done so far is: # phpdump /etc/isapnp.conf (as root) it gave me this isaphp.conf file, but I am stumped on what to do next. Do I have to get source awe sound drivers? I thought I could use the awe.deb packages once I got the card to be recognized. Can any one shed some light on my lack of knowledge of isapnptools and how to use them to recognize pnp cards. Thanks in advance. Paul P.S. mail me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
