Re: latest version of kernel package is broken in potato
By the way, has anyone else had the problem when installing kernel packages with dpkg, it freezes up on Setting up kernel-image-blah I have to open up another terminal and kill dd (something to do with /dev/ptmx). Anyone know a fix to this? I use the Unix98 ptys, and I think that's the problem, but how do I fix it? -- I already have all the latest software. -- Laura Winslow, Family Matters Dwayne Litzenberger - [EMAIL PROTECTED] Advertising Policy: http://DLitzPower.tripod.com/spamoff.htm GnuPG Public Key: http://DLitzPower.tripod.com/gpgkey.asc Fingerprint: 0535 F7CF FF5F 8547 E5A5 695E 4456 FB6C BC39 A4B0 pgpDXu4IDG04F.pgp Description: PGP signature

There was an Important bug (#46986) against kernel-package 6.24, but it seems to be fixed in 6.25. -- Regards, Steve Debian GNU/Linux Because software support is free, timely, useful, technically accurate, and friendly. When I did make-kpkg clean, I got a whole bunch of messages about a variable not be initialized - I believe it was version. Now make-kpkg clean doesn't require anyother variables, so I thought something might be wrong. Hrmm.. I updated last night also (from http.us.debian.org). My version is now 6.26. I just built a test kernel_image and then ran 'make-kpkg clean'. No problems here... -- Regards, Steve c:\winnt secure_nt.exe Securing NT. Insert Linux boot disk to continue.

Thanks for the response Steve, but you ran the make-kpkg clean after ^ you built your kernel. Following the readme shipped in /usr/doc/ for kernel package, I ran the make-kpkg clean first and that's when I got errors. I'll try it your way tonight when I get to my machine. -- David Natkins Email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fax to: (718) 488-1780 Phone: (718) 403-2474

You're quite correct. I had to build first to check, since I had cleaned after the last build. Running make-kpkg clean again in a cleaned source tree seems not to make no difference though.. *shrug* Not sure why that should make a difference. -- Regards, Steve Debian GNU/Linux Because software support is free, timely, useful, technically accurate, and friendly.
