 Howdy list,

I seem to be having some problems with OO.org 2. The program starts up
fine, and I can get the file - open dialog to come up and navigate to
the apropriate directory, but when I select a file for it to open it
hangs. When it hangs I am unable to change desktops, select other
applications from the taskbar, etc. either via the keyboard or with my
mouse. The only way I am able to kill Openoffice is by pressing
Ctrl-Alt-F2 to get to a text console.

Has anyone else had this problem or know what might be causing it? I
have tried removing all of the openoffice.org packages and
reinstalling them, as well as deleting (moving) my ~/.openoffice.org2
 directory.

It took me a while, but I finally figured out my problem. It seems
portmap is hung or not running when this happens. If I kill openoffice
and do an '/etc/init.d/portmap start' as root, then I can run openoffice
without a problem.

You mean you use debian, but sometimes you must bother with win98, e. g.
for compatibility issues? If not, install debian ;-) .

and I hope you can help me find the way to open .pps files and .dat files.

.pps is M$ PowerPoint? Should work with openoffice. But don't forget to mount
your windoze partition first ;-| .

I'm told to go to my computer, view , options, then there is on other information.
 Thanks in advance.

StarOffice crashes when opening files...

2001-04-06 Thread Pierfrancesco Caci

Something in the latest 2 weeks has changed in Debian unstable and
makes Staroffice crash at the moment of opening a file. Anyone else
having this problem? Have you been able to identify what's going wrong ?

Yes, it's been noted on list today.

I have StarOffice, that bloated stuck pig of an office suite, but
haven't used it in recent days.
