Success!!!
I downloaded ipw3945d_1.7.22-4_i386.deb from packages.debian.org and 
installed it. After configurung /etc/network/interfaces my wireless 
works perfectly.

if you are interested) - but i don't think anything should be needed 
anymore.

the hardware switch is on. Otherwise it would not work with e.g. ubuntu

probably a silly question, but is the device actually activated? i see 
the same lsmod output even with the same wifi card deactivated by the so 
called kill-switch (it's turned off by a hardware switch).

Please post your kernel version (uname -r) and the output of lsmod and
of "dmesg | grep eth".

Install the following package:



and reload the driver module ipw3945:

modprobe -r ipw3945
modprobe ipw3945

(correct, because eth0 and eth1 are LAN which works)
