Sorry about that. My mail program picked up on your email address instead of the Debian Users list. Won't happen again... I just registered with the site and set up my first sub-domain. That worked fine but now I am at a loss. This is my situation. I set up a sub-domain named antifoo with a domain name of chickenlips.com FreeDNS is pointing my dsl conncection to my ip address of 43.129.16.255, which infact is my router. The server I want to set up on the net is behind my router at 192.168.0.102 and I want the server to be able to be accessed by the antifoo.chickenlips.com address. Does anyone know what I can do to get this to work? I have a D-Link DI-624 4port/wireless router and I know I will have to do something there and then set up my debian server somehow. I appologize for being such a newbie but I am somewhat new at the Network configuration stuff. But I really like this list as everyone has been so helpful to everyone. Do a Google search on DMZ or firewall demilitarized zone. You can use a spare computer as a firewall/router; a software package called SmoothWall (www.smoothwall.org) is about the most simple way to do this; to install and configure SmoothWall takes about fifteen minutes. (In my experience, SmoothWall is easier to configure than is a firmware firewall/router.) SmoothWall has provision for three network interfaces: red for the ADSL or cable modem, green for the LAN, and purple for servers (this is the DMZ). SmoothWall also has provision to automatically notify the dynamic DNS provider whenever the IP address of the firewall/router changes. If you will be to use dynamic IP, I recommend DNSexit (www.dnsexit.com). Its TTL is adjusted low, so it has a faster propagation, about ten minutes only, I guess. Have never seen anyone get pounded by users here. But hopefully I won't be the first. :) what you need to do is log on to the webconfig running off your router for linksys the address is 192.168.1.1 and it has a default password as well. google or look at your owners manual for what yours is on the dlink, im only familiar with linksys/cisco. once you are on the webconfig, search for the area that says something like port forwarding or gaming, something like that. This is where you want to set up port forwarding, basically telling the router if it receives any request for port 80 send it to 192.168.0.102 your webserver there should be clear instructions on how to set it up exactly in your manual or on the dlink website. should be something like it will ask you for beginning port and ending port, (put in 80 for both) then it will ask for what ip address you want to forward, put in the webserver internal network ip. then itll probably ask if you want to forward udp and tcp, do tcp, then probbly a checkmark to turn it on or off. thats pretty much it, save and test it, should be accessible from the net if your isp doesnt block incoming port requests, which is becoming all more common these days. -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFHB6pTTGPZswu6yiERArjUAJsFkjhnKMWRhN6Dbm5I/WWk8uxshwCgnwwm Fh6jVyj/CRyATuT+lMUWV0Y= =NBNm -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
