I know I can add all the dependencies by hand, but maybe there is an
easy

solution.

Why are you trying to downgrade from 3.18 to 3.16? Is 3.18 not working
for you

or something?

Yes, unfortunately is the combination of Nvidia, Gnome 3.18 and a multi
seat setup not working. So I try to figure out where the problem is.

Downgrading packages in Debian is very difficult. It has been done, but
it is

virtually impossible unless you're willing to do lots of manual.. stuff.

Ok. I will give it a go and try by hand

Thanks,

I'd suggest you separate the Gnome problem from the nVidia one, as they
are not tied at the hip with each other. After some angst, I have four
monitors working, but it took the nvidia dkms package and nvidia
settings to get the driver and display right for me. Ric

switch back to gnome 3.16

2015-10-26 Thread Floris
What is the easiest way to switch back to gnome 3.16, now both testing and
unstable have 3.18?

Thanks,

floris

Steps so far:

add:
deb http://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20150601T041739Z/ unstable
main non-free contrib

to /etc/apt/sources.list

run:
sudo apt-get -o Acquire::Check-Valid-Until=false update

tried:
sudo apt-get install gnome-session=3.16.0-1
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 gnome-session : Depends: gnome-session-bin (< 3.17) but 3.18.1.2-1 is to
be installed
 Depends: gnome-session-common (= 3.16.0-1) but 3.18.1.2-1
is to be installed

E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

I know I can add all the dependencies by hand, but maybe there is an easy
solution.
