OK, I did it myself. I wrote a CGI script in Perl and all you have to do to make it work is to put it in your cgi-bin directory and point your browser to it. Of course you need to have a Web server running for this to work. So far my tests indicate it works. The interface is very nice, much nicer than vi and a Unix shell (for those that don't know a word about Unix). Those who are interested just drop me a note and I'll e-mail the script. I just had a one week vacation two weeks ago. I hope it is vacation time again so I can use my own inventation :-) I think this small project can be extended to write a small daemon that listen on a TCP port for requests for enabling/disabling the vacation message. This way a Web server is not neccesary. Any way, my stuff is working... See ya! E.- -- Eloy A. Interface to the vacation program?
Hi, we use a SMTP/POP3 mail solution running in a Debian box. I find the vacation program very useful when users are out of the office. However, my users do not even know there is a Unix box behind the scenes because all they is a nice mail program like Eudora with a nice Windows user interface. It is just impossible to expect my users to log into the Unix box and run the vacation program. Not to mention they have to use vi to edit the vacation message. So, my question is: does anyone know if there is a WWW interface to the vacation program? I am thinking about a web page/CGI script that allows the user to specify his/her e-mail address and the vacation message and have the CGI run the vacation program for him. Later, when the user returns to the office he/she can access the same Web page to disable the vacation program (the CGI will remove the .forward file). This would be great!!! Any suggestions or pointers will be appreciated. Thanks, E.- -- Eloy A. vacation program
Help, I think there was recently a discussion about this, but I deleted it as I wasn't interested at the time. I'm looking to provide a simple system generated Email reply to a specific address ([EMAIL PROTECTED]). I wish to send a simple message :- Thankyou for your enquiry I'm available in 3 days time .. I've experimented with the vacation program supplied on the Debian 1.2 CD, but when modifying the .forward file as indicated in the vacation man page, I get a pipe error (whatever program I try and forward to). I'm using smail (as supplied on 1.2) Am I missing something obvious ? Can I do this via an alias from smail ? Is there a HOWTO ? -- -- Alex Monaghan Network Support Analyst, Royal Mail Anglia London Rd, Stevenage, SG1 1AA, UK Email [EMAIL PROTECTED] STD 01438 767081 Postline5811 7081 -- -- TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM THIS MAILING LIST: e-mail the word unsubscribe to [EMAIL PROTECTED] .
