How can I make this done? Orig:Re: where's the 'man'?
O.K. Now I want to install debian's packages via ftp. I have a win95 and two FreeBSD boxes ( called Fa and Fb) in my office, Fa has a modem connecting to Internet, Fb and win95 access Internet through Fa. Since only pppd comes with debian base system, all I can think is: setting up Fb as a gateway and a pppd server, then connect my note book (called Na) to Fb using a null modem. My private network layout is: ||--| Na--Fb Fa Win95 null modem| Internet Now I make Na and Fb ping each other successfully, and am sure packet forwarding in Fb is enabled, but I can't ping Fa from Na, did I miss something? I have not much experiences on pppd, any helps or hints would be appreciated. Jonah -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Set the defaultroute of Na to Fb and let Fb forward these packets via Fa into the internet. If you did this already, you should post the routing tables of Na, Fb, and Fa for further diagnostic. through Fa. Since only pppd comes with debian base system, all I can think is: setting up Fb as a gateway and a pppd server, then connect my note book (called Na) to Fb using a null modem. My private network layout is: I don't know much about null modems ... never tried to use one. My suggestion would be to download stuff to Fb via the net and just ftp it from there to Na. You'll only need to do this until you get netbase installed, then you can just ping and telnet like the rest of the ethernet world. :) Will -- | [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] | | http://www.cis.udel.edu/~lowe/ | |PGP Public Key: http://www.cis.udel.edu/~lowe/index.html#pgpkey| -- | You think you're so smart, but I've seen you naked | | and I'll prob'ly see you naked again ... | | --The Barenaked Ladies, Blame It On Me | -- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. where's the 'man'?
Hello, I'm new to debian GNU/Linux, I've just installed debian base system into my notebook, but I found there's no 'man' command, doesn't 'man' come with base command? Jonah -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I'm new to debian GNU/Linux, I've just installed debian base system into my notebook, but I found there's no 'man' command, doesn't 'man' come with base command? No -- it's not on the base disks because the actual manpages are big and would take several more disks. Just install the man packages from the CD or net and you'll be fine.
