Bug#900421: improve "wiki account creation delayed" message

2019-01-20 Thread Tassia Camoes Araujo
Hi folks,

I would add to the issue the portion of the message that says "from some
people". When we got that yesterday creating Josh's account (Josh in
CC), we found it a bit weird (why from me? what is wrong about me?).

So I suggest your clearly state that the anti-spam has blocked the
account creation, so it clearly shows it is not personal, just computer
rules (spammy heuristics as described by pabs on IRC).

Thanks for taking care of it!

Happy hacking,

Tassia.

Great news, I think this new message solves the issue.
Thanks again!

Re: Please adopt the data source www.debian.org for Debian Contributors (#734509)

2023-09-27 Thread Tassia Camoes Araujo
Hi,

I've updated the contributors data source for the website, tracking
contributions from commits to the repository
https://salsa.debian.org/webmaster-team/webwml/

The only missing step is to transfer this configuration from my machine
to the Debian infra. I'm in contact with Larjona and we'll set this up
in the near future.

I believe this bug can be closed now.

Thanks,

Tassia.

Bug#902668: Draft for rewrite of https://www.debian.org/CD/verify

2024-03-24 Thread Tassia Camoes Araujo
Hi,

I've reviewed the proposed patch, and I think it should be applied as
soon as possible.

It seems Laura was waiting for a final review before applying this patch
(long overdue!), which IMHO would bring much more clarity to the image
verification process (usually, a big struggle to new users).

We should make a decision about the long key IDs request (points 1 and 2
from #851541), and once those changes go online, I think both bugs could
be closed (#902668 and #851541).

Thanks for all who have invested energy to clarify this process, and I
hope we can benefit from your work very soon!

Cheers,

Tassia.

Bug#1067649: Verification page is not accessible from the homepage

2024-03-24 Thread Tassia Camoes Araujo
Package: www.debian.org
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-CC: debian...@lists.debian.org

Dear www and CD teams,

When the Download link in our homepage was changed to start the iso
download right away, the old download page [1] became inaccessible (at
least not easily-accessible), making it very hard to find the
verification page [2]. I could only find it clicking on "other
downloads", then "Download mirrors", and scrolling up until the top of
the page, where a menu appears on the right, containing the link to the
verify page (I guess many of our users would totally miss it!).

My suggestion would be to replace the line "other downloads" with 2
separate links side-by-side:

"verify authenticity" | "check all download options"

And incorporate the content of the old download page into those 2
targets, the verify and "Getting Debian" page [3] (current target of
other downloads).

[1] https://www.debian.org/download
[2] https://www.debian.org/CD/verify
[3] https://www.debian.org/distrib/

Cheers,

Tassia.

I agree that not every user need to verify downloads.

I do that on a regular basis for educational purposes, as I see the
value of being able to verify authenticity of our images with our own
hands.

It is not only a matter of trusting the website, but the network, and
even the local filesystem. It happened to me once to have to re-flash a
batch of 20 USBs, because I had not verified if the file I had at hands
was the good one. I can imagine that for media vendors it is also of
crucial importance, to make sure they are redistributing the authentic
image.

So here I adapt my original request: please add the link to /verify at
the /distrib page; and if possible, also consider renaming the link of
"other downloads", since the content of the target is not only about
other downloads. For a minimal change, I'd say "other download options",
but I'd prefer "other ways of getting debian" ("Getting Debian" is the
title of the /distrib page, so it will be less confusing when the user
lands on the target).

Thanks for considering!

Tassia.
