It turns out that, thunar-media-tags-plugin no longer uses an embedded intltool. Therefore it no longer (directly) uses libxml-parser-perl, but rather uses the packaged intltool. Thus the dependency is unnecessary and can be dropped. After doing so, thunar-media-tags-plugin cross builds successfully. Please consider applying the attached patch. In general, Architecture: all packages can never satisfy cross Build-Depends unless marked Multi-Arch: foreign. In thus case, such a marking is correct, because thunar-data does not have any maintainer scripts nor dependencies that could leak architecture awareness. I have nvidia graphic cards. In squeeze I used gdm. It was working OK. I had following entries in gdm.conf: 8<->8 [servers] 0=Standard0 1=Standard1 [server-Standard0] name=Standard server command=/usr/bin/X -novtswitch -sharevts vt8 -isolateDevice PCI:2:0:0 -layout seat0 flexible=false [server-Standard1] name=Standard server command=/usr/bin/X -novtswitch -sharevts vt8 -isolateDevice PCI:3:0:0 -layout seat1 flexible=false 8<->8 Nothing special... Wheezy does not have gdm. There is gdm3, but Google tells that it does not support multi-seat. So, I took lightdm. Here is first lightdm.conf (copy-paste from gdm): 8<->8 [LightDM] minimum-display-number=0 minimum-vt=7 xserver-allow-tcp=false [SeatDefaults] xserver-command=/usr/bin/X xserver-allow-tcp=false greeter-session=lightdm-greeter session-wrapper=/etc/X11/Xsession [Seat:0] command=/usr/bin/X -novtswitch -sharevts vt8 -isolateDevice PCI:2:0:0 xserver-layout=seat0 [Seat:1] command=/usr/bin/X -novtswitch -sharevts vt8 -isolateDevice PCI:3:0:0 xserver-layout=seat1 8<->8 This does not work. I reduced X command as much as possible. When I look at ps output, I can see that isolateDevice is filtered by lightdm. Also lightdm adds his own options to X, so reduced command line looks like the following: [Seat:0] command=/usr/bin/X xserver-layout=seat1 [Seat:1] command=/usr/bin/X -sharevts xserver-layout=seat0 After reboot I get login screen on one of the seat. Another seat is switched to graphics mode, but stays black. I get both X server in process list: $ ps a| grep X 3494 tty7 Ss+0:00 /usr/bin/X :0 -layout seat1 -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:0 -nolisten tcp vt7 -novtswitch 3496 tty8 Ss+0:13 /usr/bin/X :1 -layout seat0 -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:1 -nolisten tcp vt8 -novtswitch I do not see errors or something unusual in log files. Interesting is that sharevts option is always filtered by lightdm and is not passed to X server, as well as isolateDevice option. I am attaching config files, but there is nothing special there. xorg.conf is working in squeeze. Log files do not show any error. -- System Information: Debian Release: 7.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/6 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=ru_RU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=ru_RU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages lightdm depends on: ii adduser3.113+nmu3 ii consolekit 0.4.5-3.1 ii dbus 1.6.8-1 ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.49 ii libc6 2.13-37 ii libglib2.0-0 2.33.12+really2.32.4-3 ii libpam0g 1.1.3-7.1 ii libxcb11.8.1-2 ii libxdmcp6 1:1.1.1-1 ii lightdm-gtk-greeter [lightdm-greeter] 1.1.6-2 Versions of packages lightdm recommends: ii xserver-xorg 1:7.7+1 Versions of packages lightdm suggests: pn accountsservice ii upower 0.9.17-1 -- Configuration Files: /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf changed: [LightDM] seats=Seat:0 Seat:1 minimum-display-number=0 minimum-vt=7 [SeatDefaults] xserver-command=/usr/bin/X xserver-allow-tcp=false greeter-session=lightdm-gtk-greeter greeter-hide-users=false session-wrapper=/etc/X11/Xsession [Seat:0] command=/usr/bin/X -novtswitch -isolateDevice PCI:3:0:0 -layout seat1 -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:0 -nolisten tcp vt7 # xserver-layout=seat1 [Seat:1] command=/usr/bin/X -novtswitch -isolateDevice PCI:2:0:0 -layout seat0 -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:1 -nolisten tcp -sharevts # xserver-layout=seat0 [XDMCPServer] [VNCServer] -- debconf information: lightdm/daemon_name: /usr/sbin/lightdm * shared/default-x-display-manager: gdm # # General

But pam.d/lightdm-greeter doesn't use common-session etc., so the updates that sssd's installation did to pam.d/common-xxx don't apply. I think that pam-greeter should use all the appropriate common-xxx files in pam.d to manage authentication and so on, so that whatever the admin has set up for authentication is obeyed by lightdm. As can be seen from the attached file, I `fixed' it for now by manually adding an appropriate pam_sssd line. -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.9-1-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_AU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_AU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages lightdm depends on: ii adduser3.113+nmu3 ii consolekit 0.4.5-3.1 ii dbus 1.6.12-1 ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.50 ii libc6 2.17-7 ii libgcrypt111.5.2-3 ii libglib2.0-0 2.36.3-3 ii libpam0g 1.1.3-9 ii libxcb11.9.1-3 ii libxdmcp6 1:1.1.1-1 ii lightdm-gtk-greeter [lightdm-greeter] 1.6.0-1 Versions of packages lightdm recommends: ii xserver-xorg 1:7.7+3 Versions of packages lightdm suggests: ii accountsservice 0.6.34-1 ii upower 0.9.20-2 -- Configuration Files: /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf changed: [LightDM] [SeatDefaults] xserver-allow-tcp=false greeter-session=lightdm-greeter greeter-hide-users=true user-session=xfce session-wrapper=/etc/X11/Xsession [XDMCPServer] [VNCServer] /etc/pam.d/lightdm-greeter changed: auth required pam_env.so envfile=/etc/default/locale auth required pam_permit.so account required pam_permit.so password required pam_deny.so session required pam_unix.so session optional pam_sssd.so -- debconf information: lightdm/daemon_name: /usr/sbin/lightdm * shared/default-x-display-manager: lightdm --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA256 On Fri, 2014-01-10 at 09:00 +0100, Yves-Alexis Perez wrote: > > I'm pretty puzzled by this. The remote session starts and displays a black screen with nothing but a mouse cursor in the very middle. The mouse cursor then jumps to the upper left corner of the screen and nothing further happens. I am expecting to see the lightdm greeter which never appears. I have several other machines running Debian Jessie and Debian Wheezy and can connect to them with no problems. I have two machines running Sid/Stretch and I can't connect to either. The problem is specific to Sid/Stretch and I would classify it as a regression. I have included the lightdm greeter error log, /var/log/lightdm/(null)-greeter.log, from the Sid/Stretch machine below. The WARNING related to the upstart command and the WARNING related to negative dimensions are present in the greeter log for the physical monitor/keyboard so I guess that they are not related to the problem. I would guess that the problem lies with the gdk_pixbuf calls. I have also included the lightdm greeter log from a successful connection to a Debian Jessie machine even further below. Note that the name of the greeter log file is "x-192.168.1.50-0-greeter.log" for a successful connection and "(null)-greeter.log" for an unsuccessful connection. Perhaps the name difference is related to the problem. I don't know enough about the various pieces of this puzzle so I don't know if I should file this bug against Debian or cygwin. I'm thinking somehow that I shouldn't have to make changes to my Xserver to connect to a Sid/Stretch machine when I can connect just fine to Jessie and Wheezy machines with the same Xserver. Typically I would be prompted for my user (sudo) password, and the partition would mount successfully at /media/user/. Now I get an error dialog: Failed to mount "data"; Not authorized to perform operation I can successfully mount and unmount the partition using via the command line. I am having the same issue with other applications requiring sudo permissions, such as synaptic. Synaptic fails to launch from the default menu icon, but will successfully launch from the command line (e.g. gksudo synaptic). I am experiencing this behavior on another computer with the same OS, DE and current updates, so this is not an isolated case. I believe these issues are related to PolicyKit. I have not created or modified any plokit-1 rules or files. After the next login Thunar behaved very weirdly: * The icons in Thunar are missing, as well for the files as for the menus. * All file type associations seemed to be gone. I checked with a newly created profile and logged in using XFCE. There, it seemed to work. I checked with my own user, using an empty .config folder. This seemed to work at first. But after playing around a bit (I think I changed some settings, too), logging out and in again, the problem was there again. I tried with several sets of folders from the original .config and the newly created one. The problem always remained. I get the impression that some file(s) outside of ..config may be responsible. Today, after logging out and back in several times (for other reasons), I clicked on a toolbar starter for Thunar (command in the starter's settings is simply "thunar") right after logging in. This time the icons and file type associations were there. But alas, when opening the home folder (clicking it's icon on the desktop) the new Thunar window had no icons, nor file type associations. When starting another instance using the already mentioned starter in the toolbar, this instance was also lacking icons and associations. I do not know if my problems have to do with the fact that I updated with synaptic and XFCE + Thunar were running at the time of the update. But if so, this problem should be avoided by either providing a clean update path (i.e. conversions where necessary) or a warning to the user that this upgrade should be run while no X(FCE?) or no Thunar instance is running. What can I do to find out where the problem originates and how to solve it?
