Cor, it depends from the average skill set of the users.

If they edit the master instead of editing the slide, because they
access the master instead of the slide (and they do not recognize that
they are working on the master, but this is normal, as when I teach
people about the master slide feature they all ask "which is the
difference" - which is visible - when I switch from slide to master),
they can destroy the presentation in a few simple steps, because all
changes to that slide will be applied to all slides (because they
changed the master anche not the slide).

Yep.

It has always been in the menu at least (no idea of the tool bars in the
past). And what do you think if one sets a background image via the
context menu, and replies Yes on the question "Apply to all slides?"..
Master slide changes.. Or change a style of outline text via a context
menu. Not to speak about all the editing that users always can do to
override/change any master slide setting.
So I do agree that the new split icon makes it more likely that someone
takes a look at master pages. I'm not convinced that it introduces "new
great dangers for corporate use".

I second Italo, at least about advantage of Modes Tab Bar.
IMHO it is worth the cost of vertical space.
Although the icon Display Mode is beautiful, changing the mode through
Display Mode requires 3 mouse motions (a click, small move, and another click).

Everything can be added, but hiding something without reason is a
different story. The Mode Tab Bar could be replaced by icons in the
footer (see PowerPoint), but not hidden (without giving a clue about
making it visible again).

No, it is not active and there isn't any option to make it visible by
default (this would have been the easiest solution).

Also, moving master views together with slide views is another
significant issue, especially for enterprise environments where users
should not edit masters.

Although it represents an alternative, it is not what Impress power
users (people producing at least a couple of presentations per week) are
looking for. I have talked with Paolo Pelloni, the most known
presentation trainer in Italy (an Impress power user), and he agrees
with me on the importance of that bar (especially of the "normal" vs
"slide sorter" views).

Maybe it could be improved by adding a tick "Show Modes Tab Bar" and/or

Anyway, if the situation does not change, I will file a bug.

This is a blocker for Impress power users (and who has modified the
