Stuart, I did some alternatives for the template icon and I would like to
know what do you and others think about it.

Re: [libreoffice-design] Mime Type Icons Redesign Proposal

2015-11-12 Thread Heiko Tietze
Yellow in front of white has not enough contrast. Especially for people with a
not so good display or impaired vision. And just scaling down images makes no
sense because the details cannot be read anymore.
But all together I like the pics. The reduced contrast and this unobtrusive
dog-ear are really nice.

Re: [libreoffice-design] Mime Type Icons Redesign Proposal

2015-11-12 Thread Paulo José Amaro
Just finished the 132 icons for the main applications and templates: 11
unique icons in 6 sizes (16, 32, 48, 64, 96, and 128 px) and 2 versions of
color (default and high contrast). I included the new sizes of 64px and
96px because they are common today in most OS's (i.e. default icon in
Nautilus are now 64, 96 and 128 px).

Default color:

You are very welcome at the design team. We meet every Wednesday on Hangout at
6pm UTC [1]. There are always minutes of these meetings [1,2] including the
icon related tasks. And most of the LibO design afficinados are in the IRC-
Channel #libreoffice-design [3]. If you want to get in touch with the people
from Sifr, Breeze, Tango etc. just ask.

Welcome back to LibreOffice! I personally love your proposed icons,
but I think that a separate set of *document* icons (i.e., regular
documents, not templates) is also needed. A gripe that I always had
with the current LibreOffice icons is that document icons are not
visually different from the application icons.

Parabéns!

I share with you their appreciation. In this regard I have two
suggestions.
- Commonly in GNU/Linux systems are previews of LibreOffice files.
Therefore, it is not so significant.
- I think the mime type icons must be handled by the icon theme used in
the system. For themes icons Breeze and Adwaita, there are icons for
mime type and "share design" with the icon theme included in
LibreOffice. For other OS, they may include the mime type icons
corresponding to the default theme in LO.

The idea is that these will always be generic icon (For the ability to
open legacy files in LO).

@Paulo

Thank you for your work.

I have a question. Is this a conceptual proposal or are working on the
complete replacement (16x16, 24x24, 32x32, etc.)?

I have seen the workflow of design mailing list, and the team is busy
improving usability aspect and graphics (especially completing the set
of tango icons, breeze, etc.) among other things.

I think it would be great if you could present a complete set, it would
be easier to try and adopt it in LibreOffice, from my point of view is
what was missing to complete the renewal of the release of version 5.

Cheers

I'm able to.

When you say "complete set", did you talk about redo all the interface
icons? Because I like the current ones (

I'm thinking about creating all these

I meant only that the design team is working to complete the icon themes
currently available.

I'm thinking about creating all these

Yes, I understand that part.

Read below about the current work on the icons.

* Icon Updates / Issues (Jay)

+ Should svgs be stored in repo and pngs created at build time
(Samuel)

+ Fast svg import hack working (Tomaz)
+ I hacked something similar in the past (Kendy)
+ icons rendered from svg's on LibreOffice startup
+ but had bad results :-(
+ LibreOffice not rendering in good enough quality...
+ but hopefully Tomaž has better experience / approach
(Kendy)

+ Icons not appearing in help viewer's web view
  https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=82149
+ but fixed now - thanks Stephan! :-)

+ Extra-Large (32x32) Icons for large resolutions
+ Status -
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mPqD2gGsMkfVCI6ByUd2XYX1NJm26hcGjRVe6gcCSEU/edit?usp=sharing
+ Integrating it into the options dialog -
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=95014

+ add a "extra large" entry
+ is this for hi-dpi? (Kendy)
+ no, it is for large screens, but not related to hi-dpi
(Jay)

+ still something wrong with inheritance (Jay)
+ Samuel will look at one of them
+ https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93866
+ easiest solution: eg. for tango, during build concat tango
+ galaxy links.txt, and

  put to images_tango.zip
+ one shared links.txt is probably not possible (Jay/Samuel)
  tango -
https://bug-attachments.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=115945
  galaxy -

+ Sifr & breeze for dark themes
+ bug report created (Jay)
  https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94632
+ Tomaž pushed the algorithm to create them to master (Tomaž)
+ screenshot -
https://bug-attachments.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=119614

+ Elementary icon theme added to git by Bjoern (Jay)
+ but not enabled by default
+ images_human.zip to be placed in
/opt/libreofficedev5.1/share/config/

+ Human theme in Ubuntu outdated (Jay)

+ Asking Gnome team for help with Tango (Jay)

+ reached out to the Gnome people (Jay)
+ the recent Tango is a mixture of Gnome 2 Tango and Gnome 3

+ hoping in some interest there - like there was with Breeze
(Jay)

Re: [libreoffice-design] Mime Type Icons Redesign Proposal

Hi Paulo,

Hi everyone,

Some years ago (2011) I did help the redesign of the mime type icons, just
adding some effects to the original ones created mainly by Christoph Noack.

Since then I've been away from the LibreOffice design team, but today I had
a feeling to resume my contribution work and to create a new version for
these icons that I love so much. I tried to keep them close to the old ones
in terms of shape and elements, just adapting some forms, colors, and the
overall style.

Sorry if it's not appropriate for the current development time, I just
wanna share it with you and put myself available to work again on the
design team if you want me to. ^_^

Best Regards!

the mailing list doesn't accept attachments.
Can you upload your icons in the wiki ?

Cheers,
Michel
