[Bug 33132] GDM cannot write to authorisation file

2006-02-28 Thread Melissa Draper
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33132

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I am unsure if these bugs are linked but my system is also afflicted
with Bug #33130 in gdm (Ubuntu): Dapper - $HOME/.dmrc ignored

After bug #33130 appears and has been waved off, I then get the message:

GDM could not write to your authorisation file. This could mean that
you are out of disk space or that your home directory could not be
opened for writing. In any case it is not possible to log in. Please
contact your system administrator.

I can assure you that there is plenty of space on the partition. 19+gb
in fact.

I can also state that if you type 'nautilus' from the command line, the
default gnome background shows up. This could indicate that the problem
is not with GDM, but possibly with nautilus.

[Bug 33139] Doesn't clear the track list after CD ejection

2006-02-28 Thread Manu Cornet
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33139

Description changed to:
If I load a CD with Sound Juicer, then eject it from Sound Juicer
too (Disc menu -- Eject), the CD ejects fine, but the track list
remains. And if I try to play one of them, I get of course a read
error.

I guess the track list should be cleared when the CD is ejected ?

This seems to happen with every CD I try. My CD player seems to be a
bit exhausted these days and doesn't read CDs very well, I don't
think that's related but I give the information just in case :)

[Bug 29005] run dialog(alt-f2) is giving non-usable error message

2006-02-28 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/29005

Comment:
That upload fixes a part of the issue:

 libgnome (2.13.90-0ubuntu1) dapper; urgency=low
 .
   * New upstream version
 Bug fixes:
 - Initialize all the members of GnomeModuleInfo
 - Use GOption instead of popt as default
 - Add handling of GNOME_VFS_ERROR_INVALID_URI
   * debian/patches/09_run_app_message_fix.patch:
 - list an another case for the messages to display, fix the issue with the
   alt-f2 dialog message (Ubuntu: #29005)

Now it displays The location or file could not be found.. I keep the bug
open, as I commented upstream it should rather say that the application is not
found than speaking about a location, since the dialog is to run an app

[Bug 33144] Bold fonts do the mambo

2006-02-28 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33144

Comment:
For me it happens in whole columns at once.

So if I have a high window, the entire column of bold text (usually the
ENTIRE part that's left of and below the cursor) does the mambo when I
move the cursor.

I can see this easily using vim in a perl file (the Perl syntax file in
vim uses bold a lot, it seems)

[Bug 33153] Factory refuses to spawn new terminals

2006-02-28 Thread Scott James Remnant
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33153

Affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
After a while, on a couple of different machines, I've noticed that the
running gnome-terminal factory will suddenly stop spawning new terminals
when asked.

Running gnome-terminal produces no output and returns to the prompt,
no new terminal is opened.

I'll attached an strace of doing that in case it's useful, also I'll
attach one from the factory during that time.

Running gnome-terminal --disable-factory opens a new terminal as
expected.

Closing all the running terminals, and running gnome-terminal causes a
new terminal (and factory) to be started and things work as expected
from then on.

[Bug 33159] [Dapper] gnome-screensaver starts when playing a movie with VLC media player

2006-02-28 Thread Loïc
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33159

Comment:
Is it the way it usually works? For a non-programmer like, it seems
quite strange to add work every 30sec in the application to prevent a
screensaver to start - but anyway, I'm just a noob :)

[Bug 32545] gnome-cups-manager suggests wrong driver for HP Deskjet 930C

2006-02-28 Thread Pascal De Vuyst
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/32545

Comment:
Breezy Badger 5.10
Dapper Drake 20060228

Please note that there are 2 Manufacturer indications used in PPDs for
Hewlett Packard: HP and HP (HPLIP).

You specifically need to select HP (HPLIP) as Manufacturer! Then
select HP DeskJet 930C as model and you will see under Driver hpijs
(recommended).

Please note that in the case you manually added /usr/share/ppd/HP-
Deskjet_930C-hpijs.ppd the Manufacturer indication is HP (HPLIP).

Workaround:
Edit the file /usr/share/ppd/HP-Deskjet_930C-hpijs.ppd and change the
Manufacturer indication from HP (HPLIP) to HP. Now add you printer again,
you will find the printer under HP indicating the recommended driver hpijs
(recommended).
Note: you will see that hpijs (recommended) is listed twice under driver,
this is because of this bug https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+bug/32302.

The problem is in package hplip-ppds in breezy and dapper 20060228. These PPDs
incorrectly use HP (HPLIP) as *Manufacturer string. This is not allowed
according to the Adobe PPD Specification v4.3.
I have filled a bug upstream in Debian for this a while ago:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=347264

It plays transparency.mpg, but at the end of the first file, it does not start

Sometimes if i wait some time and press the pause button, it starts to play the

Maybe we should enable tooltips anyway to let the redrawing bug appear,

[Bug 33210] unable to move files across file systems from desktop

2006-02-28 Thread Jane Silber
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33210

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I have my trash on a separate file system from my desktop. When I
select an icon on the desktop and try to delete it with the delete key,
I get an error msg about not on the same filesystem and am asked if I
want to continue. The options presented are Cancel and Retry. If I
delete the file by dragging it to the wastebasket, it is all fine.

So,

- as a minor issue, if in fact moving files across file systems is
something that users shouldn't be able to do implicitly, this should
probably be a warning, not an error (I'm filing a related bug on the
question of whether this can be an implicit action)

- more importantly, it asks if I would like to continue. Suppose I do
want to continue. The best I can do is select Retry, which tries to do
the same thing and generates the same error message. If I acknowledge
the error message and explicitly say I want to continue, it should allow
the operation to continue, but currently does not

[Bug 33212] deleting files across file systems

2006-02-28 Thread Jane Silber
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33212

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I have my trash on a separate partition from my desktop. If I try to
delete a file from the desktop, I get an error message about moving
files across file systems (which has some issues, related bug 33210)

I guess that there may be situations when the user should be warned
about moving files across file systems (am not sure about that, but am
guessing that there must be a reason for the warning/error). But in this
case I have explicitly moved my trash to a different file system and
don't really want to be stopped or warned about file systems every time
I delete something from my desktop. Is it possible to distinguish
between the situations that really do merit a warning (whatever they
are) and the situation where I clearly do want to move across file
systems (in this case by the fact that I moved my trash)?

[Bug 33224] number pad operator keys not always recognized by gcalctool

2006-02-28 Thread Jonathon Conte
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33224

Affects: gcalctool (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I'm using Dapper Drake testing (Flight 4 + updates) and Gcalctool, the
GNOME calculator v5.7.30.

The operator keys on the number pad (plus, minus, multiply divide) are
only recognized by gcalctool when the number lock is enabled in contrast
with the digit, decimal and Enter keys on the number pad from which
input is always accepted despite the state of the number lock.
