Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34347 Affects: gnome-netstatus (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: The signal strength bar that is used with wireless connections was recently changed to a long horizontal bar and the colors that are used seem to be in reverse. I would have thought this was upstream but the icon and appearance are correct (but gnome themed) when the gnome theme is in use. I'll attach a screen shot to demonstrate the problem. ==Problem== As you can see the applet now takes up way too much horizontal space and doesn't really add appreciably to justify it. Also, my signal strength is at 90% but the stronger color on the bar takes up only 25% and from the wrong side. So im assuming that the colors have been reversed (unless this is intentional). Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34344 Affects: gthumb (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: In gthumb on an up-to-date Dapper install, the Edit-Find menu item is not labeled Edit-Search as recommended in the GNOME Human Interface Guidelines. See http://developer.gnome.org/projects/gup/hig/2.0/menus- standard.html#menu-standard-edit for reference (Table 4.8): If the command allows the user to search for content in places other than the current document, for example other open documents, other documents on disk, or a remote network location, label this item Search instead of Find. Steps to reproduce: 1) Open gthumb 2) Click on the Edit menu 3) Click on the Find menu item in the Edit menu Actual Results: 1) In the Edit menu there is a Find menu item which has a Ctrl+F shortcut 2) The dialog that opens when you click on Find is entitled Find but the rest of the dialog refers to searching Expected results: 1) The Edit menu should have a menu item called Search 2) The Search item should have a more intuitive keyboard shortcut than Ctrl+F since Search begins with S 3) The Find dialog should be entitled Search -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34325 Comment: This has happened to a couple of machines that I've seen. Reboots didn't fix it. OpenOffice menus get pretty messed up on some boxes, too - the menus are all transparent, which can cause issues. Works for me, and looks good, although the icon theme is messed up (will only show Tango folders, not Dapper folders). Definitely needs work, but looks good when its at 100%. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 34356] The GIMP print preview dialogue window is too big!
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34356 Affects: gimp (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: I use a laptop that has a fixed screen resolution of 1024 x 768; I use two gnome panels on the bottom of the screen, each of which are set to 24 pixels, so I have over 700 pixels vertically. This is more than enough for just about any window, except the print preview dialogue window in the GIMP. When I select File - Print... said window takes up more space than I have vertically and I can't even read the text of the six buttons on the bottom as they are almost completely hidden. Setting the two gnome panels to autohide allows me to see the text of the buttons (Help, About, Save Settings, Print and Save Settings, Cancel, Print), but its still apparent that the window is taking up more space than is available vertically. Horizontally, there is a lot of free space though. Please either adjust the geometry of the print preview window such that it can fit into a screen size of at least 800 x 600 (though fitting 640 x 480 would be even better for those still using older hardware; I don't think that the window takes up much more area than that and could probably be compacted a bit; the main problem is that its layed out in such a way that its taller than it is wide, which is silly unless your monitor is tilted 90 degrees), and/or use a scrollbar at the side of the window. Either way will fix the problem. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 34347] Signal Strength Colors and Size are Off
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34347 Comment: I second the request to conver the signal strength bar to a vertical one. It appears that only one of the four bars is ever coloured: when there is no signal, the leftmost bar is red (and the other three are gray); when the signal is strong, the rightmost bar is orange (and the other three are gray). This is misleading; only one bright bar out of four to me implies a weak signal, not a strong signal. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 34380] writing to media dialog when ejecting a CD
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34380 Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: I only saw this once and only for a moment (not long enough to get a screenshot or know what it said exactly), but it's clear what's going on. A while back some code was added to help the user know that it was not yet safe to remove a removable device (like a USB flash disk). It seems that this code was triggered by an unmount operation on my CD (read-only) taking too long. Why it took too long (only by a second I'd guess) is another problem. The real problem is that the progress dialog claimed that data was being written to my disk. This could scare a user. It would have scared me if I hadn't known the background of that feature. Perhaps a little more logic could be put in so that the dialog is not triggered in this situation, or the text could be made more generic. Another thing to think about is that if packet-writing were enabled on the CD drive and I was ejecting a CD-RW then the dialog would have been exactly right and a good thing.
