[Bug 30015] /dev/pilot/ is never used by PDAs
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30015 Comment: The default symlinks can be changed by adding a rule to any file in /etc/udev/rules.d/. For example, in my installation, I have a file at /etc/udev/rules.d/10-custom.rules, and in it I have two lines: KERNEL==tty* SYSFS{product}==Palm Handheld, SYMLINK=pilot%m pilot GROUP=plugdev KERNEL==tty* SYSFS{manufacturer}==Palm_ Inc. SYMLINK=pilot%m pilot GROUP=plugdev To figure out what this means, there's a very helpful udev guide at http://www.reactivated.net/writing_udev_rules.html. In short, though, udev rules let you customise certain properties of devices. The == statements are rules that decide which devices to customize, where KERNEL is the node name in dev (eg. /dev/ttyUSB0 will match tty*, /dev/dsp will not), and SYSFS{manufacter} matches a property of the device that can be found by using udevinfo. The = statements assign properties to the device in question, and are a bit easier to understand. SYMLINK creates symlinks in dev, and GROUP changes the group of the device node (the original one) so that regular users can access the device if they are in the correct group. Syntax can be found in man udev -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 32617] awkward strings in window switcher buttons when launching apps
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/32617 Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: When starting a new app, a new button appears in the window switcher along the bottom of the screen. After upgrading to Dapper, I've noticed that the strings displayed initially in these buttons are sometimes strange. They always switch to something sane (along with the icon), but the initial display seems to be around longer than in Breezy, and some are awkwardly ugly. This may actually be separate issues with each app, but it seems odd that the same awkward behaviour appeared in several different apps upon upgrading from Breezy to Dapper. Are apps just launching more slowly so those temp strings display longer? Examples: 1. Synaptic - gksu 2. OpenOffice - ooqstart Admittedly this is a very minor thing - it is purely cosmetic, but it makes Dapper feel a little rough and sluggish. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/36046 Comment: Given that we know the source of the problem, and that there's a known workaround, I'm marking this bug rejected. In future we will have a wontfix status which will let us say there's an issue there but we won't fix it. [Bug 36147] switch user doesn't works properly after locking the screen
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/36147 Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: I lock the screen, gnome-screensaver starts and I choose to switch user. Gnome-screensaver displays a list of users. I select one user and ask to switch, GDM starts and ask me again witch user I want to login, GDM should only asks for the password of the user selected in gnome- screensaver's list. After login with another user, I connect my USB-key which is automatically mounted with the uid of the other user who has locked his screen, so I can't unmount the USB-key ! [Bug 22748] Empty Trash should be better highlighted
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/22748 Comment: I agree with Manu. Several times i wanted to empty the trash and remove the applet from the panel instead. Maybe there is too many options in the contextual menu and 'Empty trash' is to far away in it. Do we really need the Help and the About in the menu? Stripping them out of it could help improve the situation. The idea of using a bold font and an icon is also good in my opinion -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 36151] Clicking a second time on the Trash applet should close it, not open a second instance
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/36151 Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: Hi, I feel like when you click a second time on the Trash applet, it should close the Trash window instead of opening a second one. Who needs two Trash windows? Personnaly, this is really not the action I was expecting when clicking on the Trash applet a second time. Typically what I want to do with this applet is to look at what's inside the Trash and/or empty it. To look at it, i click on the icon, and it opens the Trash window. I don't even move my pointer from the icon when i look at what's inside the Trash. When I've seen what's inside, I intuitively click again on this icon, expecting this action to close the window. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like this behavior would be more intuitive. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
