[Bug 38547] battery monitor time display bad

2006-04-07 Thread Kevin Fischer
Public bug reported:

Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I am running Ubuntu 5.10 with all installed packages up to date on a
Dell Latitude D610 notebook (I'm very impressed by how easy it was to
set up, by the way, considering this is a laptop and all). My batter
power monitor gives terrible time estimates; for instance, while my
battery takes about 20 minutes to fully charge usually, it often
estimates that it will take 600+ hours to charge.

This bug is not 100% reproducible, but I have observed it multiple
times.

[Bug 27897] Weird name when using usb disk with dapper

2006-04-07 Thread Andreas Eriksson
Public bug reported:

Affects: hal (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: Medium
 Status: Needs Info

Description:
I've been trying out dapper for a few days, and I've been using my usb hdd with
music on it to listen to music while I'm on the dapper computer. But when I
fired it up today and inserted the hdd the icon that apperas on the desktop got
some weird characters in it (I can't type them here, so I'll attach a
screenshot), instead of the normal 37 GB Media that its usually called. It
also got mounted at /media/strange name here instead of /media/usbdisk that it
got mounted at yesterday and the day before that. I really hope this is just a
bug in hal or gnomes media manager or something, and that my filesystem hasn't
been corrupted. I've tried listening to one music file and playing one the first
few minutes of a movie I had on there, so it seems like its working, but I have
lots of things on that disk and it would take too long to check it all.

Here is the relevant output from the mount command:
/dev/sda1 on /media/D??H?$ type vfat

[Bug 36946] Re: Screen Resolution tool (gnome-display-properties) does not change refresh rate, resolution in Dapper

2006-04-07 Thread Thomas Hood
I have the same problem.

I have a laptop which I use in several locations where I have several different
external monitors that I like to use alongside the laptop's panel. Last year I
installed Breezy and added these lines to the Section Device for ATI
Technologies, Inc. Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500]:

Option AGPMode 4
Option AGPFastWrite True
Option EnablePageFlipTrue
Option MergedFB True
Option CRT2Position RightOf
 Option MetaModes 1400x1050 1400x1050-1280x1024
1400x1050-800x600 1400x1050-640x480

When I dist-upgraded to Dapper last week , initially X would not start at all.
Something had overwritten xorg.conf. I re-added the lines above and as a
result I can use any of the external monitors *IF* I start X with that external
monitor connected. However, I cannot use
System|Preferences|Screen_Resolution_Preferences|Resolution to change the
resolution. When I click Apply, the dialog box closes and, simply, nothing
happens. xrandr -s does work, though.

[Bug 27897] Re: Weird name when using usb disk with dapper

2006-04-07 Thread Martin Pitt
I guess the label is just screwed up, or in a totally different encoding.
Tarik, when remounting with iocharset=iso8859-1, did the characters look
'differently' weird? Can you please do

  lshal hal.txt

and attach hal.txt here? Maybe I can figure out the encoding; I'll think about
it, maybe there's an obvious way to ignore the label if it contains strange
characters.

Thanks,

Martin

[Bug 38519] Re: Update xchat-gnome to 0.11

2006-04-07 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks for your bug. The new tarball has been rolled on my request so we can
ask an UVF exception for dapper, no need to file a bug about it. I've not
uploaded yet because I had an issue with the showcolors option, Ctrl-C is
broken (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=337531) and the xchat CVS
sync part of the CVS is not trivial to review.

For libsexy there is only one source package to the archive any, so there is no
way to build a package with libsexy1, on soname change we have to transition
everything using the lib to the new version

[Bug 38330] Re: Rosetta Translations

2006-04-07 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Mark, rosetta translates package but also have translations for product. You
can register gaim has an upstream project and use it for upstream translations,
that's what xchat-gnome is doing by example:
https://launchpad.net/products/xchat-gnome/+series/trunk/+translations,
upstream just has to update the .pot for the project and collect translation
using
https://launchpad.net/products/xchat-gnome/+series/trunk/+pots/xchat-gnome/+export

Note that you can translate from the web interface or ask for the current po,
change it locally and upload your updated version then. The interface doesn't
change too much afaik, Jordi?

I'm Cc-ing Jordi on the bug, he works on rosetta, if you have any question feel

[Bug 34667] Re: [Bug 34667] Re: ISO-8859-1 Support Missing

2006-04-07 Thread Adam Kane
Sorry for the poorly worded bug report. Here's a step-by-step way to
reproduce the issue.

Convert a filename to iso-8859-1. Archive it. Extract it.

This will simulate the scenario where a user archives an iso-8859-1 file,
sends it to their friend, who is using a utf-8 encoded filesystem. The
friend extracts the file and is unable to view the filename correctly.

The ubuntu utf8-migration-tool is supposed to fix this problem, but it is a
one-use tool, and does not fix filenames that a user comes across during
their everyday work.

Add the universe repository:
http://easylinux.info/wiki/Ubuntu#How_to_add_extra_repositories

sudo apt-get install convmv
cd ~/Desktop
mkdir testdir
cd testdir
gedit björk.txt

Save the file, and close gedit.

convmv -f utf-8 -t iso-8859-1 -r --notest björk.txt
cd ..
tar -czf fûnkyarchive.tar.gz testdir
convmv -f utf-8 -t iso-8859-1 -r --notest fûnkyarchive.tar.gz
rm -r testdir

Use Nautilus and File-Roller to extract the file. The result is that the
archive and the archived file both have iso-8859-1 encoded filenames, which
are unviewable in the default ubuntu utf-8 encoded filesystem, and must be
manually converted to view correctly.

File-roller and Nautilus should be able to view alternate encoded filenames
and convert extracted filenames on the fly. Note that Rox-Filer is currently
able to view multiple filename encodings.

I've created a Nautilus-script that performs the conversion, but this is a
cumbersome tool for most users.

Thank you for looking into this!

[Bug 38570] 100% CPU if jpg file in ~/Templates/

2006-04-07 Thread Benedikt
Public bug reported:

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
make jpg File of the dimension 6556x99 Pixels and place ist in the
directory ~/Templates.

If you restart nautilus, it will eat up all CPU.

Actually the thumbnail of the JPG is shown correctly if it's in another
directory !

Copying the JPG File to the directory ~/Templates results also in eating
100% CPU after copying the file (But copy File to another locations
works perfectly !)

This did not happen in Ubuntu Breezy but happens in dapper (upgraded
from breezy). I could reproduce this behaviour on a colleagues laptop
(Ubuntu dapper also).

Nautilus is Version 2.14.0, in Ubuntu dapper System which is up to date.

Do not hesitate to contact me, if you have further questions.

[Bug 37858] Setting external junk filter can filter everything

2006-04-07 Thread Ken Foskey
Perhaps a topic change is in order. The option to set

evolution - mail preferences - Junk - include remote tests

This should not be possible unless the tools to support it are installed. If I
got trapped then a newbie would get trapped as well. Alternatively on startup
it should switch the option off if it does not have supporting plugins.

Maybe someone can add my debug backtrace to the upstream bug tracker? (I don't
have an account)

Would be nice to have this fixed for dapper, I think it's a pretty bad bug for
universities and companies with network printers.

[Bug 38436] Re: Iagno menu item has a confusing tooltip

2006-04-07 Thread Daniel Holbach
Upstream says:
Iagno is Reversi which is also Othello. Othello is by far the most recognised
name, but it is trademarked. Instead of going for Reversi the author decided to
use a really bad pun (which I happen to like) for the name. It is very little
different from Aisleriot's Play many different solitaire games. The name is
an cute anagram, so the purpose has to be described in the tooltip.

In the end it is the age old problem for menu labels of branding vs.
describing functionality. The usual solution to this problem is to relabel
the menu item to use both i.e. Iagno to Iagno Reversi. However I think this
is silly. I also don't want to change the name. While I have removed a lot of
the explicit GNOME branding, I have tried to keep the more whimsical names
(actually, almost anything that wasn't GNOME-something or g-something) like
Aisleriot and Iagno.

For the record, since I suspect that you (like 90% of this planet) haven't been
to the sort of school that teaches Shakespeare, Iago is the bad-guy in the play
Othello. The name was then gnome-ified by adding the 'n'.

I'm personally happy with it and I don't think I want to create a diff and have
to change the translations every time there's a new upstream release.

Another thought - this probably only started with the the change in clocks a

used to be right but is now wrong.

[Bug 28429] Re: After hiding a directory and deleting it afterwards it stays in nautilus visible

2006-04-07 Thread KarlGoetz
I have reproduced this bug, and if you rename a directory untitled folder to
.test it holds the old name.
I did the test on my desktop, and a log out is required to refresh the
'directory'.
if you double click untitled folder it opens with teh path Desktop/.test .
press up (a level) and look - its hidden in nautilus but still visible on the
desktop.
i'm using gnome 2.14 on Dapper

[Bug 13199] Re: Drag n' Drop directories from File-Roller is somewhat tricky

2006-04-07 Thread Nicolò Chieffo
I'm using file-roller 2.14.0 but the bug is still there!
Actually the file is dropped in the selected window only if you wait enought
time with the button pressed, for the file to be decompressed.
So if you decompress a 1K file the you can't notice this bug, but if you try to
drag and drop a 1GB file you'll have to hold the button for at least 20
minutes! (you can see it in the progress bar)

[Bug 38596] Crash when entering Japanese text in a mail

2006-04-07 Thread David Chart
Public bug reported:

Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Dapper current, using scim-anthy for Japanese input.

Create a new mail. Click in the message body, and switch to Japanese
input.

Type これ (if you have anthy installed, typing kore will do this.)

Hit space to finish the unit, and return to select the default option
(which is also これ).

Evolution crashes.

I've repeated this at least half a dozen times. Other applications
(Firefox, for example) do not crash, so I strongly suspect that the
problem is in Evolution.

[Bug 38441] Re: Default application for audio CD shouldn't be sound-juicer

2006-04-07 Thread Pierre C
Out of the three reasons, only the first one is valid.
 - rhythmbox has no command line option to start on the CD
that's a rhythmbox bug.
 - rhythmbox UI is not intuitive for CD playing for users according to desktop
 team opinion
MacOSX does just that. Inserting a CD opens iTunes and is available in the
sidebar, exactly like Rhythmbox.
 - you can changing the app to start to system, preferences, disks and
 removable media
That's too hidden for ubuntu target who just want to be able to have an insert
and play solution in ubuntu.

Still even with an eventually non-broken sound-juicer, the user experience is
poor. double clicking on a track edit the track title instead of playing it.
Why not putting back the simple gnome music player?

I'll open another bug report concerning the impossibility to play the selected
track in sound-juicer in another bug, with the debug log.

[Bug 33102] Re: Pause / Print Screen keys can't be set in Keyboard Shortcuts

2006-04-07 Thread baszoetekouw
What's metacity got to do with this? Running sawfish here, and I can confirm
that the printscreen action doesn't work. Other keybindings (mute, volume,
etc) work fine.
