[Bug 38959] Re: Proprietary Plugins missing

2006-04-10 Thread Daniel Robitaille
That option used to be there, but disapeared from the preferences panel
sometime between Hoary and Breezy.

Clicking on it was simply opening a nautilus windows into the user's
~/.gnome2/totem-addons so that the user could move codecs into that directory
for Totem to use.

[Bug 38445] Re: AisleRiot appears to hang while switching to paris cards

2006-04-10 Thread Daniel Holbach
The speed up fix, makes it a slight bit faster - but I don't consider it 'fixed'

 gnome-games (1:2.14.1-0ubuntu1) dapper; urgency=low
 .
   * New upstream release:
 - The nightfall theme in Four-in-a-row now uses the correct graphics.
 - Minor corrections to the Mines documentation.
 - Fix a double-loading bug in the card-images code. (Halves the load-time
   for SVG card themes!). (Malone: #38445)
   * debian/patches/fix-gnect-nightfall-theme.patch:
 - dropped, accepted Upstream.
   * debian/patches/10_fix-ka.po-and_dz.po-translations.patch:
 - remove broken translation strings.
   * debian/patches/01_lpi.patch:
 - added missing #include

[Bug 29697] Re: nodeadkeys is not available as option or variant for us_intl keyboard

2006-04-10 Thread Tollef Fog Heen
There is no nodeadkeys variant for us_intl, there are two named:

* U.S. English - International (with dead keys)
* U.S. English - Alternative international (former us_intl)

both have dead keys.

I guess you could argue that the former should just be called U.S. English -
International removing the dead keys note.

[Bug 38933] Re: Spellcheck

2006-04-10 Thread Guillaume Desmottes
We discussed about that in upstream when we started to implement the languages
selection.
It would be certainly useful but i'm not sure about the best way to integrate
that in the GUI without too much complication (one the main goal of x-g is to
keep a clean interface).

Another problem is than we're still using a lot of the xchat-gtk code for the
configurations (for the servers/channels) and so lose in flexibility.

GIMP's splash screen in Dapper feels rather unpolished compared to the
one found in Breezy (will attach a comparison shortly). This is not
strictly a bug in Dapper, but in my opinion a rather poor choice
upstream. My suggestion would be to reuse the Breezy splash screen in
Dapper, I'll elaborate a bit more on why I'm proposing this change.

The current Dapper splash screen is the result of a competition set up by the
GIMP Team celebrating the tenth anniversary of the program. I followed this
contest from the start and I feel that none of the entries matches the elegance
and polish displayed by the current splash screen in Breezy. Especially the
winner, and thus the current splash, lacks in a few departments:
- The GIMP title text is barely legible due to the font, shadow and bordering
- Legibility gets worse for the color blind, try using the Deuteranopia
display filter on the new splash, it becomes one big washed out gray area
- A rusty dial doesn't instill confidence or inspire creativity
- The green color doesn't match any element in the Dapper theme and feels out
of place

The current Breezy splash offers the following advantages:
- The orange base color blends in perfectly in the new Ubuntulooks theme and
the overall appearance of the desktop environment
- The GIMP name is sharp and has a good contrast compared to the white
background
- The pencils are appropriately themed and (for me) do inspire creativity
- The white background makes the splash screen uplifting and clean instead of
depressing (the green in the new one is kind of dark)
- The version number doesn't list the minor release so it could be reused
without any further changes

To rehash: I would feel that the Ubuntu Dapper release would benefit
greatly by reverting a bad aesthetical choice upstream. I haven't held a
popularity contest or something, but I hope I've been able to convey my
thoughts and feelings on this subject with a solid list of arguments.

If the Breezy splash is not an option, the Dapper example content also
provides a GIMP splash screen which looks better than the current Dapper
one. Look for this one in the Examples folder in your home directory on
Dapper.

All of the above is purely subjective and represents my view on the
subject, please take this in consideration.

[Bug 35660] Re: Disk activity every second every day

2006-04-10 Thread Tormod Volden
Bigbilly, can you try to find out which process is writing these error messages
to .xsession-errors, for instance using the tricks in that LinuxJournal article?

Usually the errors are prepended by the process number or name, but in your
case they seem more like kernel warnings. Do you see these messages using dmesg?

[Bug 38431] Re: Gnome clipboard manager ?

2006-04-10 Thread Laurent CHARTRAIN
The problem is mostly for the text selection which can be paste with middle
click button of the mouse.
Because there is two ways to copy/paste (CTRL+C/CTRL+V and
Text-selection/middle-click)

The main purpose of this wishlist is to have an app like the kde klipper which
can store the 'x' last copy/text selections and allow to easily access to it
with a gnome panel plugin.
It is basically a copy/selection history panel plugin.

Is there a good tutorial to write a gnome plugin ?

[Bug 20469] Re: [Xorg] savage - backlight won't turn off -- Hoary Breezy Dapper

2006-04-10 Thread Oliver Grawert
the comment from Tormod Volden suggests it is solved, no ? gnome-screensaver
currently has no option to set the timeout for dpms in the settings, you can
try to set it with gconf-editor if the time seems to long (note that its added
to the normal screensaver timeout (the dpms timer starts counting after the
screen was blanked). imho this is fixed and should be turned into a whishlist

[Bug 38848] beeps on tab

2006-04-10 Thread Tero Karvinen
Public bug reported:

Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Confirmed

Description:
Bash beeps every time user presses tab, often many times for every
command line given.

On an office full of Ubuntus, continous beeping is annoying. Tab
completition is one of the most used features of bash shell. There is
absolutely no point in beeping all the time. Even though this is just
an interface issue, it is something almost every user wants to change
right away.

I suggested changing this in gnome-terminal (Bug #34745), but as noted
in gnome bugzilla, it should (also) be changed in bash.

Aoki and others: Debian Reference: 8.6.7 Disable sound (beep)
http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/reference/ch-tips.en.html#s8.6.7

Socher: Don't beep at me

- you can configure this in /etc/inputrc.

2006-04-10 Thread Hezekiah Carty
My apologies, my last reply was not accurate. I don't see the flickering in
the preview window using xss+default visual, but I do when the screensaver
actually starts and is running full screen.

I hope this helps to root out the problem.

[Bug 38995] [gaim2b3] Unable to add a new IRC channel or autojoin

2006-04-10 Thread KarlGoetz
Public bug reported:

Affects: gaim (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I'm unable to add irc channels to my buddy list - this action used to be
easy to do, but now i cant see an option for it at all. I have the
'gaim-irchelper 0.12-5' installed on this box, and i still cant see
anything.

Because I cant add channels to my buddy list, i am unable to add them to
autojoin (meaning gaim is essentialy useless for irc atm). Gaim *is*
however, using the autojoins i used to have in 1.5, so i know it can do
it.

[Bug 34814] Re: unpatch target missing in dpatch.mk

2006-04-10 Thread Martin Pitt
 cdbs (0.4.34ubuntu1) dapper; urgency=low
 .
   * Upgrade to a sligthly newer Debian revision to get some bug fixes. Later
 revisions have more intrusive changes and are inappropriate for Dapper.
 - Fixes dpatch.mk unpatching. Closes LP#34814
 .
 cdbs (0.4.34) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Removed old FSF address from copyright file
   * Removed spurious leftover confstatMD3O4Y directory
   * Only print deprecated warning if variable is actually changed from
 default (closes: #256079)
   * Corrected DEB_COMPRESS_EXCLUDE, DEB_FIXPERMS_EXCLUDE documentation
 (debhelper.mk) (closes: #260531)
   * Cosmetic change to make emacs font-lock happier (buildcore.mk)
 (closes: #317870)
   * Corrected typo in guide (closes: #348536)
   * Use elinks to build better-looking plain-text documentation
 (closes: #330707)
   * Properly (un)indented makefile comments so they don't appear in the
 output (closes: #311464)
   * Removed useless old changelogs
   * Renamed documentation files from .xhtml to .html
   * Integrated guide build better with Automake
   * Eliminated installation of .dbk files
   * Added man page for cdbs-edit-patch and accept --help (closes: #312736)
   * Added Suggests of devscripts (better fix for #327151)
   * Fixed testsuite so that it actually fails if there is an error
   * Added a python-* package to testsuite so the distutils tests actually
 do something; fixed Makefile.am so that they have a chance of being
 called
 .
 cdbs (0.4.33) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Added myself to uploaders
   * Allow specifying a makefile (makefile-vars.mk) (closes: #282959)

   * Remove leading comma in Build-Depends line (buildcore.mk)
 (closes: #294537)
   * Propagate CPPFLAGS (autotools-vars.mk) (closes: #301667)
   * Recognize changelog as upstream changelog name (debhelper.mk)
 (closes: #311517)
   * cdbs-edit-patch: Use debian/rules clean instead of debclean
 (closes: #327151)
   * cdbs-edit-patch: Create debian/patches directory (closes: #344383)

[Bug 6290] Re: No rights by default to import video from a Firewire device

2006-04-10 Thread Martin Pitt
@Alan: adding your user to group 'disk' essentially means that you are working
as root, so every program that you run can potentially tamper with your whole
system (see my previous comment).

I have no idea about kino itself, but it should be fixed to use /dev/video1394.

** Summary changed:

- No rights by default to import video from a Firewire device
+ use /dev/video1394, not /dev/raw1394

** Bug 35693 has been marked a duplicate of this bug

Do you use breezy? If so, do you have the latest pmount from breezy-updates
installed?

  dpkg -s pmount | grep Version

should print 0.9.5-0ubuntu6 for Breezy.

[Bug 28752] update-notifier should not pop if fullscreen app is running

2006-04-10 Thread j^
Public bug reported:

Affects: notification-daemon (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Wishlist
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
currently if you run a fullscreen app like playing a
video with totem or a presentation, update-notifier
will popup if new packages are available.

this is anoying, distrubing and awkward.

eather there must be a way to switch off this notification
bubble.
a blinking icon like gaim used it is fine.
or update-notifier should be smart enough to not pop
over fullscreen apps.
