[Bug 42765] Re: icons for EOG

2006-05-04 Thread Emmanuel Touzery
i don't have a freedesktop bugzilla account but you should put in that
bug where you found the icons. they must be sure about copyright before
including them. if they don't know where the icons are coming from, who
is the copyright holder and what is the license, they will certainly
refuse to include them.

[Bug 29050] Re: cupsys does not automatically detect parallel printer

2006-05-04 Thread ycopin
I have the very same problem using HP Deskjet 695C on parallel port (with
Ubuntu Dapper Beta with latest available updates).

Linux version 2.6.15-21-386 ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) (gcc version 4.0.3 (Ubuntu
4.0.3-1ubuntu5)) #1 PREEMPT Fri Apr 21 16:43:33 UTC 2006
gnome-cups-manager: 0.31-1.1ubuntu6
cupsys: 1.1.99.rc3-0ubuntu1

The printer is not detected, and the CUPS configuration tools does not offer
any extra possibility:

Use a detected printer: no printers detected
Use another printer by specifying a port: hp no_device_found

Still, the printer was detected at boot time (but nothing about lp device):

dmesg:
[4294682.357000] parport: PnPBIOS parport detected.
[4294682.358000] parport0: PC-style at 0x378, irq 7 [PCSPP,TRISTATE]
[...]
[4294682.628000] parport0: Printer, HEWLETT-PACKARD DESKJET 690C

Cupsd is running, but there's no lp devices:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~]$ ls -l /dev/lp*
ls: /dev/lp*: No such file or directory

Now, following your advice, I did:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~]$ sudo -u cupsys /usr/lib/cups/daemon/cups-deviced 1 1 `id
-u cupsys` ''
Password:
DEBUG: [cups-deviced] Added device beh...
DEBUG: [cups-deviced] Added device bluetooth...

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~]$ sudo /usr/lib/cups/daemon/cups-deviced 1 1 `id -u cupsys`
''
DEBUG: [cups-deviced] Added device beh...
DEBUG: [cups-deviced] Added device bluetooth...

DEBUG: [cups-deviced] Added device lpd...
DEBUG: [cups-deviced] Added device parallel:/dev/lp0...
DEBUG: [cups-deviced] Added device socket...
Content-Type: application/ipp

This created the lp0 device:

dmesg:
[4295800.375000] lp0: using parport0 (interrupt-driven).

and offered me the possibility to specify a port for the printer:

Use another printer by specifying a port: LPT #1

After these steps (which I have to do after every reboot), the printer works
properly. There's however still strange things happening **while printing**:

* the 'General status' of the printer (as quoted in the Deskjet-695C
  Properties configuration tool) is:
Printer not connected; will retry in 30 seconds...
* the Connection tab says the printer is:
  * Network printer CUPS (IPP)
  * URI: parallel:/dev/lp0

Once the job is over, the status turns to 'Ready', and the Connection comes
back to Local printer on LPT #1.

I hope it helps, it's really a nasty bug.

[Bug 27316] Re: Plextor DVD-RW does not detect DVDs properly until an audio CD is inserted

2006-05-04 Thread Barry Shilliday
I just tried with the latest Dapper kernel (2.6.15-21) and have the same
problem. I can't reproduce the problem in Windows, so Plextor will not
look into whether it's a firmware problem.

[Bug 42914] Freezes when formatting html mail and no internet connection.

2006-05-04 Thread John Cooper
Public bug reported:

Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
To reproduce:

1. Setup an network connection like a corporate LAN where internet
packets get lost and you have to wait for a time out, and turn off
your proxy setups.

2. View a HTML mail with images loaded from the internet.

3. Switch to antother message.

The Formatting message... alert will be fixed in the message bar and
you will not be able to view another mail till the connections for all
the images have timed out.

I think that when I click on antoher mail it should kill the html
rendering even if it is waiting on an image to download.

Note: The type of internet connection is important as this only happens
when packets that you send out to the internet get no replies and so
have to time out. This is probably a problem with our network setup but
could also be true for other people.

[Bug 27897] Re: Weird name when using usb disk with dapper

2006-05-04 Thread Martin Pitt
Thanks for the log. It really seems that the label is severely screwed up (it
doesn't look like ISO-8859 either). From your log I was able to set the label
of my USB stick's partition to the same value you have.

hal should be fixed to ignore these invalid strings. In the meantime, if you
can afford to reformat the drive you can set a good label with

  mkfs.vfat -n 'your label' /dev/hda2

or change the label under windows (sorry, there's currently no easy way to
change the label of a VFAT partition under Linux).

Thanks, so it seems that the storage addon is at least polling the drives.
Apparently it fails to notice the DVD.

Does it work with a normal CD-ROM?
Also, does it work if you start the computer with the DVD already inserted?

[Bug 42923] Dragging page icon to desktop no longer makes a shortcut

2006-05-04 Thread Chris Lord
Public bug reported:

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Binary package hint: nautilus

Dragging the icon in the Location bar of a page in Epiphany to a
folder/desktop in Nautilus used to make a launcher to that web-page.

This was useful functionality, if you ever needed to save the page,
there was always File-Save As, or right-click-Save As, now there
appears to be no simple way of creating a web launcher.

I haven't changed my Epiphany package in a while (I need to recompile on
amd64 each time), so I'm guessing this may actually be a nautilus bug.

[Bug 42923] Re: Dragging page icon to desktop no longer makes a shortcut

2006-05-04 Thread Holger Bauer
I can reproduce this with epiphany 2.14.1-0ubuntu2 and nautilus 2.14.1-0ubuntu5.

Dragging the location bar icon to the desk and holding alt before releasing the
button and chosing create link gives an error from nautilus:
Error: Action not supported when creating a link with url (Translated from
german locale so not 100% exact)

Dragging an icon from firefox works however.
