[Bug 46745] Re: LaTeX hyph (update-language) broken (for all languages?)

2006-06-02 Thread Martin Pitt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 36145 ***

Fixed yesterday:

tetex-base (3.0-15ubuntu1) dapper-updates; urgency=low

  * Repair hyphenation:
- debian/tetex-base.language.list: Fix include file name (00tetex -
  10tetex).
- debian/postinst.in: Fix test for various programs, so that font maps,
formats, etc. are actually recreated. Also, call create_tetex_formats
with --all to ensure that upgrades get all files
  updated correctly.
- Fixes ported from 3.0-16.
- Closes: LP#36145

[Bug 47870] Re: Incorrect date layout

2006-06-02 Thread Carlos Perelló Marín
Yes, we can do that, but you need first to migrate all translations from
'es_ES' to 'es' so no translations are lost.

After that, send me an email and I will request a removal of es_ES
pofiles.

Take into account that there are some situations, that the es_ES should
be there to handle things like numeric values or time values that are
specific for Spain and are not shared with other Spanish countries.
(Those are really bugs in applications, they should be using other
locale information to generate them, instead of mark them to be
translated).

Cheers.

[Bug 48015] Resolution change moves Applications menu, but doesn't move it back

2006-06-02 Thread Paul Sladen
Public bug reported:

The GNOME Applications, Places and System menu block/applet normally
lives in the top-left of the desktop.

If the screen resolution changes to 640x480 and then gets changed back
to 1024x768, the menu is no longer in the top-left:

  http://www.paul.sladen.org/ubuntu/bugs/gnome-panel-xrandr.png

[Bug 48027] Gnome: No logout possible with activated kompmgr

2006-06-02 Thread felix.rommel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

Dapper 6.06:

When I use Metacity with kompmgr or KWin under Gnome I cannot logout any
more.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Start your Gnome session
2. Enable Translucency settings in kcontrol: Desktop Window behaviour
3. Start the KWin composite manager kompmgr (alternative: kwin --replace)
4. Log out of your Gnome session

[Bug 48041] gnome-settings-daemon dies horribly on NFS

2006-06-02 Thread Shish
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

When logging in to use user who's home is on NFS, the theme keeps
flickering between default and the one I chose. Looking at top shows
that gnome-settings-daemon keeps dying and coming back every second or
so. After 3-4 minutes, it comes up with the message:

There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.

Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work
correctly.

The Settings Daemon restarted too many times.

The last error message was:

System exception: IDL:Bonobo/GeneralError:1.0 : Child process did not
give an error message, unknown failure occurred

GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log
in.

Logging in from a plain text terminal, I see the kernel repeatedly complaining:

[Bug 37858] Re: Missing emails in data file

2006-06-02 Thread Joachim Beckers
I had the same issue, it's this:

in the latest evo packages for dapper, there's a bug that makes
evolution - mail preferences - Junk - include remote tests behave
badly.

previously it didn't do anything, but now it marks all incoming mail as
junk, and hides it for some reason. all your email will be hidden until
you uncheck the box and restart evo. your hidden mail will be visible in
the junk folder.

the checkbox dos seem to do something when the right tools are installed
(spamassasin, bogofilter, I don't know?), but noone knows what exactely.

so general conclusion: don't check the evolution - mail preferences -
Junk - include remote tests box. junk filtering in evo is horrible
anyway, unchecking it won't make it any worse ;-)

[Bug 41871] Re: xmms' volume slider should not mess with PCM but with master

2006-06-02 Thread Raoul Verveer
I found out that in MPlayer the mixer can also be configured to use OSS
or ALSA, assign a mixer channer or enable a sofware mixer wich doens't
affect any channel.

Unfortunately I am not in the position to make any choices about what's
important in Ubuntu ;-)
But you have a point about the usabilty and default configurations of the
multimedia packages. It shouldn't be that hard to configure xmms, Totem and
MPlayer all to use a software mixer, or perhaps the master channel.

Perhaps some people at Ubuntu can shine a light on this?

[Bug 47889] Re: Label is write instead of copy

2006-06-02 Thread Loïc d'Anterroches
Thanks for the kind request for more info.

Here, I am only considering the case where you perform a complete copy
of a CD. That is, you right click on the CD on the desktop and select
Copy Disc.

Effectively we write a CD when performing the copy of a CD.

But the write is a subprocess of the copy operation. The copy
operation is first composed of a read to create the image and the a
write on the blank CD. So in fact you click on Write to Read your
source CD.

The complete operation is the Copy of the CD (that is why the title of
the window is by the way Copy Disc as shown on the screenshot). So it
is more logical to start the complete operation by a Copy Disc or
Copy button.

In the case of a creation of a new CD from the burner or directly from
an iso, I completely understand the use of the term Write because it
is effectively the complete operation.

I hope I was clear enough, it is really a problem of confusion for the
first user who is not computer savy.

[Bug 48097] gedit does not get focus when opening more than one document

2006-06-02 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Public bug reported:

I already saw this behaviour during the dapper development phase, but it
somehow got fixed with some updates. Now, some days before the dapper
release, I've noticed it again.

Basically, after having open a document, opening a new one will cause
gedit to remain in the background, whereas it would be expected that
gedit gets the focus and is brought to the foreground.

Steps to reproduce:

1.- Open a Nautilus window.

2.- In this window, browse a folder that contains text documents.

3.- Click on a text document. The document will be opened in gedit,
which will appear on the foreground.

4.- Go back to the Nautilus window and click on a second document. The
document will be open in gedit, but this time in will remain in the
background, while the window list bar is flashing.

Expected: gedit opens the second document and gets focus (i.e. it
appears in the foreground).

[Bug 48109] Crashes when opened in window

2006-06-02 Thread TomMoitie
Public bug reported:

Whenever I open Nautilus in a window, it doesn't show up any of the
files or folders, then crashes. If I force quit it or kill it, it opens
again automaticly and crashes in the exact same way. When it does this,
it stops showing any of my icons on the desktop as well. The only way to
make it stop is to reboot.

So far I've only experienced this through my home folder and I actually
have no access at all to my documents or settings in Nautilus. Can
someone also offer me a different file manager to use while this problem
is being solved?

Many thanks, Tom Moitie

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

[Bug 34435] Re: Cairo and ATI RENDER extension cause scrambled buttons in UbuntuLooks

2006-06-02 Thread Marius Gedminas
I see problems 1 and 2 (buttons with dots/lines, also in toolbars):
http://mg.pov.lt/garbled-ubuntu-theme.png

I've never seen problem 3 (fully coloured buttons)

I *think* I've also seen the half-drawn horizontal scrollbar trough bug,
but I cannot reproduce it at the moment.

Strange.
I deleted a few files and folders in my home directory, and it loaded fine. One
of the more suspicious files was called index.html?u=sam~

[Bug 48109] Re: Crashes when opened in window

2006-06-02 Thread Vassilis Pandis
Creating such a file doesn't crash nautilus here. Is this on i386? Do
you remember what other files you had (because I take it that you can no
longer reproduce the problem)? If you can reproduce it, please install
the nautilus-dbg package and attach the backtrace here. Thanks for
taking the time to report this!

[Bug 22501] Re: serpentine couldnt start to burn (possible fix)

2006-06-02 Thread NickBooker
I think I've found a fix, but I haven't got time to further test the
solution because of exams and revision.

THE FIX

I've managed to get discs burning by changing the gstreamer pipeline in
the source_to_wav function in audio.py (directory /usr/lib/python2.4
/site-packages/serpentine/) - it appears to have frozen to start with
but it's just taking a while to start filling the progress bar (Althon
XP 2400+, 512MB RAM).

This diff works on version 0.6.91-0ubuntu3:
495c495
 audioconvert !
---
 audioconvert ! audioresample !

On above mentioned version of the package, this change was made at line
495.

I've only tested this fix on one set of MP3 and OGG files with one 80
minute CDR.

PROBLEMS TO BE RESOLVED (unrelated bugs? problems with my solution?)

After burning, Serpentine claims in an error dialog that
Writing to disc failed. The CD has already been recorded.
However the disc was blank, it burned successfuly and it plays perfectly.

Large temporary .wav files are left behind in my home directory with
names like tmp2iy1Ye.wav after burning, but automatically removed when
Serpentine is quit. Are they kept for any reason, or can this be
classed as a bug?

That is rather strange, specially because the problem you've solved is
in the converting part, which if thrown an exception would stop the
recording and thus the disc would be blank. Can we arrange a meeting
on IRC so that we can try to debug this? I am not able to reproduce
this bug so I can't really do it by myself. My nickname is
'cogumbreiro' and i'm on irc.freenode.net (on #pida) and on
irc.gnome.org (on #pygtk).

That's the expected behaviour. That happens so you don't have to
convert the same file twice (imagine writing multiple copies of the
same album).

I just noticed that that part used to be there and now it's not.

No that's the cache working. You don't want to convert the same file twice.

However the disc was blank, it burned successfuly and it plays
 perfectly.
The disc was blank or was it burned successfuly?

Did an error appeared afterward or did it not? I'm a little confused
with the last part :)
