$ gconftool-2 -g /desktop/gnome/interface/gtk_theme /apps/metacity/general/theme /desktop/gnome/interface/icon_theme Human Human Human My theme was also ruined, but that was fixed by removing metacity completely and reinstalling it. The applets on the panel were also messed up at the same time - the window list applet had disappeared and would not get added back. Had to do a re-install of gnome-panel and gnome-applets to get it back. Also, gnome-terminal behaviour changed - it's now having a yellow background instead of white, not having the menu bar anymore. To add to all this, I'm unable to run any apps from the menu, as when I enter the user password I get a dialog saying: Failed to run disks-admin as user root: Wrong password. - it happens for all apps under System-Admin menu. If I run it from terminal using sudo, it works fine. Not sure if it's a different bug, so pls. let me know and I'll fine a seperate report. All these things started happening at the same time suddenly, which is why I think they might be related. I'm currently running the final Dapper release. Started having the issue suddenly one day (I was running Flight 7 then). It was fine the day before, but started acting strange on the next day. [Bug 35222] Re: make clear to users that devices need to be unmount before beeing unpluged
I have noticed this too - the problem is the user might not realize this delayed write (async?) behavior is used and think their files have finished copying when in fact it hasn't actually started. Possibly a dialog should pop up when a USB disk is mounted with something like This device uses delayed write: Any changes will be made when the device is unmounted. [Bug 48198] drivemount: regression: audio CDs no longer displayed
Public bug reported: since dapper, drivemount no longer displays in the list of drives CD drives containing audio CDs. I think it's because it has been decided to hide drives that the user cannot mount. In the case of audio CDs, it's a regression IMO, because: 1. you can no longer click the drive and select Play CD, option which was introduced in 2.12, so beginner users will have as only solution to eject/reintroduce the CD to get it to play if they don't know which program is used to play audio CDs. 2. you can no longer eject the CD using the drivemount applet. you must use the button on the CD drive. imagine explaining to a beginner that he must use the drivemount applet to eject CDs... unless if it's an audioCD. then he must use the button on the drive. it's confusing. I think the new behaviour should be changed: don't display drives that can't be mounted, unless they are audioCDs. Always display audioCDs (like in breezy). I first reported this bug in GNOME bugzilla but it seems it's ubuntu specific so I report it here. ** Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #343760 http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=343760 -- drivemount: regression: audio CDs no longer displayed https://launchpad.net/bugs/48198 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 48226] Autohide bugs
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel I'm noticing two (probably related) problems with the panel in autohide mode. Both seem to have to do with timing: 1) Sometimes when the panel un-hides, it jumps to the top of the screen (I have it at the bottom) so I need to move it down. This typically happens about twice a day. 2) When clicking on the main menu button, sometimes the panel hides itself and the menu pops up too low -- the bottom of the menu is aligned with the bottom of the screen instead of the top of the (still un-hiden) panel. In both these cases, it seems to happen when un-hiding the panel (or bringing up the menu) requires a disk access (swap or files not in OS cache), causing a slight delay. That's why I'd say it's probably timing-related. ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed -- Autohide bugs https://launchpad.net/bugs/48226 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gparted Hardware: Toshiba M30 Laptop Please describe the problem: When installing ubuntu dapper, I used the gparted 0.1 to try to resize my partitions as the default setup for the laptop from the restore CD. After resizing the 80g NTFS partition into 40gig NTFS + 38gig EXT3 + 2gig swap, the partition table showed as corrupted with one 80gig partition in black, and two 0 size partitions also marked in black. This only appears to be a resize issue, creating partitions apperars to work fine. Steps to reproduce: 1. Backup all data (you'll lose it) 2. Reinstall XP from restore CD 3. After configured, start installing ubuntu or similar 4. Run gparted, try to resize drives. 5. I hope you backed up Actual results: Partition table is corrupted, laptop won't boot. All data lost (tho manual recovery may be possible) ... and the terrorists win. Expected results: NTFS partition to be resized and the other partitions created correctly. Does this happen every time? Yes, although wiping the partitions and starting over with a blank partition table seems to work ok. Other information: Due to everyone else having no problems, I'd figure this is a hardware/bios specific issue, but due to the nature of it (and the fact that I lost everything on my laptop, which was backed-up as reminded to by jdub) it is incredibly important that this model laptop be excluded from using the tool to resize ntfs partitions until resolved! [Bug 48234] totem-xine crashes on startup
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem-xine When opening totem (xine) without any parameters, it will crash after loading the GUI. Loading totem with a movie or song will work fine. On startup, totem will load the GUI, and then a blue screen will appear where movies normally are. The blue screen appears for only about 1/10 of a second, then totem crashes. No error messages appear on the crash. Steps to reproduce: 1. Install totem-xine 2. Applications Sound Video Totem 3. Watch the crash. Terminal output: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ totem The program 'totem' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'. (Details: serial 66 error_code 11 request_code 141 minor_code 19) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) [Bug 47224] Re: Logout / Quit icon moves each time I login
I just retested this with a fresh install of Dapper Final and still have the same issue. -- Logout / Quit icon moves each time I login https://launchpad.net/bugs/47224 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 37148] Re: Cannot Convert Files (mp3) that Totem-gstreamer can play
I did read that bug pre-filing. I got the impression that those people couldn't burn CDs at all. [Bug 33072] Re: Pulling AC plug suspends computer
I just upgraded my laptop (compaq presario v2000) to dapper (from Breezy) and now my machine is going into suspend when I pull the power cord. I have never seen this behavior until going to dapper. I am happy to provide any debug/log/whatever output to help troubleshoot. This is somewhat annoying (to say the least). -- Pulling AC plug suspends computer https://launchpad.net/bugs/33072 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
