[Bug 58971] infinite loop in gnome-cups-icon

2006-09-05 Thread Gianni Moschini
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-cups-manager

Gnome-cups-manager is version 0.31-1.1ubuntu13

Ubuntu is Dapper 6.06

After only 4 hours of running, the HD was making some noisy work. Gnome-
system-monitor revealed that it was the gnome-cups-icon fault. It was
using more than 60 percent CPU, with some picks at 90.

And one google search later, this is what I found. The same bug appearing in
Debian, with gnome-cups-icon 0.31
http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux.debian.devel.bugs.general/123860

So it's an upstream bug (is it how you would say it because I'm not sure
what is an upstream bug anyway)

Oh and because we always like screenshots, here is one.

[Bug 58977] Maximizing ignores docked panles with Xinerama

2006-09-05 Thread Haggai Eran
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

Hi
When I add another screen using Xinerama, the gnome panels remain in the first
screen, which is great, but when the panel is aligned vertically near the
border between the two screens (either on the right of the left screen, or on
the left of the right screen), maximizing a window ignores the panel, and the
window is maximized right to the edge of the screen.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Use xinerama with the second screen to the right of the first.
2. Add a vertical gnome panel to the right edge of the left screen.
3. maximize a window in the left screen.
4. The screen is maximized right to the edge of the screen, instead of the edge
of the panel.

[Bug 52344] Re: Unable to apt-get 'gnome-core-devel'

2006-09-05 Thread ashrack
I believe I understand why this is happening:

Lets say for an example that U are using XGL from the QUINNS' repo! Such
as I was. And so by installing XGL from it, U are upgrading a lot of
other libraries, that your system depends on them. All is is good until
some packages or applications won't work with newer libraries, like
GNOME-CORE-DEVEL. These packages require the older LIBRARIES to work but
XGL requires the new ones!

See the dillema?

##
Can anyone confirm/deny this? Cos I've never quite understood why is it a
problem installing newer LIBS and adding other REPOS until this explanation
came into my mind?

Well if this explanation is true than am gonna post it on
UBUNTUFORUMS.ORG since am sure that a lot of fellow UBUNTUERs have been
wondering the same thing.

turned off threading, so I believe these problems are gone in HEAD.

[Bug 58983] Fails to play at random times

2006-09-05 Thread Tor Bendiksen
Public bug reported:

At random times rhythmbox will not play any music (have only tried mp3
and ogg). It will load fine and I get no errors. When pressing play it
will jump to the next song as it should, but it will be stuck at time
0:00, and not progress. I can go to the next song, but it will be the
same there.

I have tried to run it in debug mode, and all I can see there that *may* be out
of order is this:
(This is while trying to drag the slider - when released it jumps back to 0:00)
[0x8123890] [slider_moved_callback] rb-header.c:614 (10:19:21): slider is not
dragging

dragging
[0x8123890] [slider_moved_callback] rb-header.c:614 (10:19:23): slider is not

I'm not certain that this is related to rhythmbox or not. It could be
problems with my soundcard/machine (I have had some other problems with
the volume keys etc.) - This is a Thinkpad X20.

A restart of rhythmbox does not solve this issue. Playing music with
other apps (beep-music-player, xmms, mplayer) works fine. I have played
with gstreamer settings to no affect.

(latest version of rhythmbox in dapper. Dapper fully up to date).

Let me know if you need more information.

[Bug 58914] Re: orca doesn't start

2006-09-05 Thread Henrik Nilsen Omma
Hello Riccardo,

Thanks for testing this. It is known to us that Orca does not behave
properly when started from the menu. The background for that is that as
a tool for blind people it was not designed to be launched from a menu.

We are currently testing some different solutions to this. Prefereably
we want the setup GUI to appear from the menu, or we might simply remove
vit from the menu.

We don't ship gnome with the accessibility features enabled, just
installed.

[Bug 58998] Gaim's tabs don't function like in Gedit/Epiphany/Terminal

2006-09-05 Thread Schalken
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gaim

I find that Gaim's tab interface isn't the same as the rest of GNOME's
native applications, such as Gedit, Epiphany and GNOME Terminal. This is
very annoying in terms of consistency and theming.

In particular,
Gaim's tabs are not the same height.
The close button is not the same (Gaim tries to use a normal button
instead which doesn't fit)
Dragging tabs works like Firefox (with the little arrows showing where
the tab will be moved) rather than like in GNOME apps (tab moves with the
cursor)

Gaim just needs to use the same code which puts tab handling in the
hands of Gtk/GNOME. I'm led to beleive this is done through the use of
Gtk Notebook.

what you can do is change in the .destkop the Exec: fiek with an ubuntu

[Bug 21728] Re: No Background transparency in some applets

2006-09-05 Thread joe
So I made some tests with various themes:

Gtk/Gnomes own themes seem to work properly
clearlooks mist etc.

But some other themes from gnome-art
like clearlooks-vista, gray, resilence and milk2.1 cause some problems. they
produce a vertical gradient in the panel. the sensors-applet networkmonitor and
keyboardindicator just use the unicolor default backround. the window- and
fastuserswitcher seem to do the same but with resilence theme it seems they
behave like buttons or menuentries thid apperas with the gnome-menu when using
resilence i'll attachs some screenshots

[Bug 58998] Re: Gaim's tabs don't function like in Gedit/Epiphany/Terminal

2006-09-05 Thread Mark Doliner
To me Gaim's tabs look exactly the same as Gedit's tabs. I'm using Gaim
2.0.0 SVN. I have a feeling that's newer than what you're using.

* Hmm, I can't imagine why they wouldn't be the same height. Unless we used to
use a different close button that was causing the tabs to be taller than
normal. Or maybe your tabs are shorter than they would be by default and our
protocol icons are causing them to be taller in Gaim?
* The bug where the close button gets cut off should be fixed. I'm not sure
when we fixed it, but it was some time between 1.5.0 and 2.0.0 SVN.
* We ARE using Gtk Notebook, but tab dragging was added only very recently
(GTK+ 2.10.0, July 3 2006). Are you using GTK+ 10.0 or newer? We'll have to
leave in our current tab dragging code, since we support all the way back to
GTK+ 2.0, but eventually we'll add support for the new tab dragging and #ifdef
it so that it's only enabled for people using GTK+ 2.10.0 or higher. But
that's a pretty low priority. Patches welcome!

[Bug 41170] Re: The typical user will not know how to make some free disk space when he cannot log into a graphical desktop

2006-09-05 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
Free space issue is critical to lots of users, because gdm doesn't offer an
userfriendly solution for user if there are no free space.
I'm suggesting improved solution for this bug, based on solutions, mentioned in
gnome bug 339229:

 * Always keep a place-holder file in the user's home directory that is big
enough for GDM to do its job, so, when they log in, GDM can merely write over
top of this file as it needs.
 * Provide some kind of hook that would allow each distribution to take
further steps in helping an user to fix the problem.

So, gdm should create place-holder file of needed size (for example ~200
kb) in /tmp after gdm starts (and display a warning message if there are
no enough space for creating such file) and erase this file in /tmp
before gdm starts.

Also gnome-session should check for free space during login and create
place-holder file (for example ~200 kb) if there are enouch space and
display a warning message if there are less than ~1 Mb free space (gdm
should erase place-holder file in user's home, created by gnome-session
when user starts to login).

Should I report a bug agains gnome-session in Ubuntu ?

[Bug 58983] Re: Fails to play at random times

Thanks for this bug report. More information would help us get to the
bottom of this.

Could you please attach the output of the following:

 dpkg --list *gstreamer*|grep ^ii

Also, could you use gst-launch-0.10 (see 'man gst-launch-0.10' if this
is unclear) to get more verbose output from gstreamer?

Like this:

 GST_DEBUG_NO_COLOR=1 gst-launch-0.10 \

[Bug 16724] Re: Inkscape doesn't use the gnome print dialog

2006-09-05 Thread DannyStaple
Still present in Inkscape 0.44-1ubuntu1 on Edgy.

I dont know how aware the community is, and if enough are for a
representative vote.

My opinion would be that since inkscape sits on top of GTK (and not Qt
or some other toolkit), and since I strongly feel that consistency in
Ubuntu is a very desirable feature, then it probably should be changed.

The best way to go about this (IMHO) may be that the upstream should be
gently encouraged to use the default gnome dialog, and that the ubuntu
maintainers showcase it working in Ubuntu.

[Bug 47548] Re: german umlaute aren't shown correctly

2006-09-05 Thread Dennis Schäfers
all german umlaute in my contact list aren't shown correctly (ü = ü
etc.). when I change them with the alias... option (on right click in
the contact list) to correct ü to ü manually, the umlaute ä ö ü are
shown correctly. When I close Gaim and start it again the umlaute are
broken again. Writing people (which are using icq software on windows) ä
ö ü-umlaute in instant massenges, is working correct for me.

- I'm using Gaim2beta3.1 on Ubuntu Edgy
- I'm using gaim with the icq protocol
- I use the same .gaim directory from previous gaim versions (cause I use the
same /home till dapper)

Something wrong between the sync./encoding between the icq server (who
stores the contact list) and gaim? I don't know!

[Bug 39465] Re: Samsung ML-1740 Not Listed

2006-09-05 Thread Till Kamppeter
Moving to foomatic-db

At first, if a printer is not listed in the gnome-cups-manager or any
other printer setup tool, this is caused by the printer not being in the
foomatic-db package on your installed system.

Look up the printer on linuxprinting.org to see whether it is already
added upstream.

I have added this printer and other Samsung laser printers today. I also
added the new SPL2 driver splix to the database.

To fix this problem in Ubuntu it is only needed to update foomatic-db to
the current snapshot and to add the splix driver. Then this printer
will work perfectly out of the box.

[Bug 58908] Re: HP PSC 2110 printer PJL ENTER LANGUAGE=PCL3GUI

2006-09-05 Thread Pascal De Vuyst
@Till

This is not a bug in Ubuntu. It is wrongly configured. What you
are doing is to let the client convert the PostScript coming from
the applications into PCL and this is sent to the server which
assumes it to be plain text and tries to convert it to PCL again,
and the result on the paper looks like if you open a PCL file with a
 text editor.

I was thinking the same a while ago, see bug #55828. But this really is a bug,
an upstream STR has been filed for this:
http://www.cups.org/str.php?L1881+P0+S0+C0+I0+E0+Q1881.
This problem is fixed in CUPS 1.2.3 (not yet included into Dapper or Edgy, but
coming soon).
