[Bug 61050] [Edgy] Knot-3 Live CD sets up keyboard in English instead of Spanish

2006-09-28 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1. Boot from Knot-3 Live CD (desktop CD)
2. Press F2 and select Spanish - Español
3. Press F3 to make sure keyboard Spanish - Español is selected (this step is
optional).
4. Start Ubuntu.
5. Go into GNOME, and the keyboard is in English instead of Spanish (no dead
keys, no ñ, ç, ¿, ¡ keys, and so on...).
6. If you go to System - Preferences - Keyboard Preferences, into the
Layout tab, you can see that English is the only layout selected. If you
remove the English layout and add the Spain layout, then the keyboard works
perfectly in Spanish.

This problem is NOT in other Live CD releases (Dapper, Breezy, Hoary and
Warty).

[Bug 60851] Re: shares-admin crashes on launch

2006-09-28 Thread Robert Persson
For some reason the problem has gone away. I suspect that this may have
had something to do with me installing some package necessary for samba
to work, although I can't remember exactly what I did. What I mean is
that I think the problem may have something to do with shares-admin not
being able to grasp that samba hasn't been installed properly.

[Bug 61706] Re: HAL error after return out of hibernation

2006-09-28 Thread teardrop_onthefire
I'm afraid to say, trouble is back and worse. I can only see this problem as
the cause.
-Since hibenation worked I continued using it, untill the last time, the error
message returned.
Since all progrmams worked I ignored it.
I did a liitle work, even changing users showed no problems.
But then I logged back into my own account, I by just pointing the mouse at the
clock applet made it crash. While trying to send an error report X crashed, I
tried to reboot, but mouting of hda1 with the root dir failed, fsck automatic
failed. I ran fsck manualy with the option -v.
All bad inodes fixed, the system runs normal again (even a bit faster as
before).
I'm never hibernating the system again !

[Bug 59045] edgy desktop/liveCD Trashcan does not work

2006-09-28 Thread Chip Piller
Public bug reported:

I tested the September 5, 2006 release of the edgy i386 desktop CD and
ran it as a liveCD. The Trash icon in the lower right corner of the
desktop always says it's empty, even when it is not empty.

Files dropped into the trashcan will go into the ~/.Trash directory as
expected and can be removed manually. The Trash file browser shows that
it is empty even when it is not, and it does not allow one to empty the
trash (that option is grayed out).

Re: [Bug 58226] eog closes silently when asked to open a corrupt png

2006-09-28 Thread ClaireNewman
In English???

James Troup wrote:
 Public bug reported:

I have a PNG here which has been corrupted (in transport via email) -
eog silently exits when asked to open the image. This behaviour is very
confusing for the average user who clicks on the (broken) attachment in
their MUA and ... nothing happens.

Unfortunately I can't provide the image in question as it's a scan of
someone's passport. However both file(1) and xloadimage(1) recognise
 the PNG as corrupt:

 $ file passport.png; xloadimage passport.png
 passport.png: PNG image data, CORRUPTED,
PNG file: passport.png - PNG file corrupted by ASCII conversion
passport.png: unknown or unsupported image type
 $

So presumably libpng is detecting the corruption and eog just isn't
 handling that very gracefully.

[Bug 62745] [time-admin] Synchronize Now don't work

2006-09-28 Thread Patrice Vetsel
Public bug reported:

By default on fresh edgy uptodate install with g-s-t 2.15.4-0ubuntu3 when you
go to Adjust Date time on time applet. Clicking on Synchronize Now do
nothing.
If you select Keep clock synchronized with internet servers, ubuntu install
required packages, after that you can deselect Keep clock synchronized with
internet servers and cliking now on Synchronize Now button works !

So :
1/ Synchronize Now have to be grayed if packages required are not installed
or
2/ Clicking on Synchronize Now must install packages required if they are not
already installed
or
3/ Packages required have to be installed by default

I think that 2/ is the better way to solve that. 3/ is the easy way.

Step to reproduce :
install edgy
right click on time applet
select Adjust DateTime
change your Time
click on Synchronize Now - nothing append

previous comment was out of topic, that's not libgtk2.0-dev that Depends
libtiff4-dev, libtiff4-dev is a Build-Depends for gtk+2.0, closing the
bug that's not one. Seems you are confused by what Build-Depends are,
you should rather use a support ticket on an user list if you have

[Bug 40795] Re: cannot create printers in live system

2006-09-28 Thread Martin Pitt
After setting a password for the ubuntu user, I can create a printer in
the web interface (I just get the usual 'unauthorized' log messages, but
they are bogus -- cupsd always seems to try unauthorized access first,
and then requests credentials if that fails; it happens all the time
without a visible negative impact).

After the printer is created in the web interface, I can exercise
ubuntu's lpadmin group powers with cupsenable/cupsdisable, can use
gnome-cups-manager to print a test page, and so on.

So only creating a printer fails in the live system, the log messages
point to some problem while copying the PPD file.

Till, do you have an idea about that?

[Bug 49452] Re: Dapper - nautilus freezes when opening a remote folder

2006-09-28 Thread ekku
I use nautilus for connecting remote ssh servers. If i use connect to
server from menu it all works ok. same thing from places sidebar
above vertical line.

Nautilus crashes if i directly click bookmarked folder _below_ vertical
line. But if i first mount server clicking its name above vertical line
and then click bookmark below the line it works ok.

So, propably clicking the bookmark does not mount the server and
therefore crashes?

[Bug 62776] Video stretched when running ATI dual desktop

2006-09-28 Thread KenSentMe
Public bug reported:

I run Ubuntu Dapper with two screens on a ATI 9800 Pro. To get dual
screen working i used this command:

sudo aticonfig --dtop=horizontal

This way i can use a big desktop on two screens. when i maximise a
screen it maximises to one screen only. Even fglrx works in this setup.

When i play a video in Totem(-Xine in this case, but believe it happened
also in gstreamer) my Totem video is also stretched, so the screen is
twice as wide as normal. This way a 4:3 video becomes 8:3. This happens
in Totem itself and in the firefox-plugin.

[Bug 62310] Re: Gpilotd does not reply to all sync request

2006-09-28 Thread Daniel Holbach
Comment from the upstream developer:

ot sure what's causing this problem.

Here's one thing to test:
kill gpilotd (you may need to remove the pilot applet from the panel, and then
do 'killall gpilotd' from a terminal window).

Now try running pilot-xfer:
pilot-xfer -p /dev/pilot -l
(or /dev/ttyUSB0, or /dev/ttyUSB1, I'm not sure which is right for the T3)

Does pilot-xfer work reliably, or do you have the same problems as with
gnome-pilot? If it is just as unreliable, then I'd recommend bugging
the pilot-link people:
http://www.pilot-link.org/mailman/listinfo/pilot-link-general
It's just possible that you're getting a regression with the new pilot-link
major version, 0.12.

[Bug 61087] Re: Gaim crashes on close

2006-09-28 Thread Jonh Wendell
Hi!

Checking with more deep, i've seen that although closing normally, gaim
generates a core file (about 25MB) in my home dir.

So, doing some tests i think i found the problem. It's related to
libnotify plugin, that i've installed from
http://repository.debuntu.org/

Disabling this plugin, gaim closes normally and no core file is created.

Kevin Kubasik, initial reporter of this bug, do you use this plugin too?

[Bug 37603] Re: Ensure that foreground and background color combinations provide sufficient contrast when viewed by someone having color deficits

2006-09-28 Thread Henrik Nilsen Omma
My guess would be that the titlebar text is fine because it has a dark
shadow which enhances the contrast. The progressbar text which is white
on orange might be difficult to see for some.

I'm not sure if this represents a valid test, but I played with it a bit
in gimp, first making it grayscale and then fading out the contrast a
bit. See attached file. We do of course have the high contrast theme,
but that may be overkill for those who are 'just' colour blind.

[Bug 62810] Re: [edgy] GTK-based apps crash when run through ssh tunnel between powerpc and i386 machines

2006-09-28 Thread Michael R. Head
By the way, this crash happens only between my i386 machines and my
powerpc machine. Remote X works fine between the i386 machines, it's
just when I attempt to run a remote X app on my i386 box from the ppc
box or vice versa, so I'm guessing there's some endian issue going on.

[Bug 62810] [edgy] GTK-based apps crash when run through ssh tunnel between powerpc and i386 machines

2006-09-28 Thread Michael R. Head
Public bug reported:

I just upgraded my g4-based mac mini from dapper to edgy, and I can no
longer run gtk apps over ssh tunnels because they always crash. I can
run non-gtk apps, such as xterm just fine. Here's the output of running
gdb gnome-terminal until it crashed:

I just tried the graphical edgy installer and it didn't detect /dev/hdb!
It's listed in the possible install sources and if you select use whole disc
it works, but you can't set the partitions by hand. It only finds hda in this
case. (which is my windows HD ...)

[Bug 62811] Services-admin (Systems - Administration - Services) Help documentation screenshots different than actual application

2006-09-28 Thread Jim Jones
Public bug reported:

The help for the services-admin application's help documents an
apparently earlier incarnation of the application including different
screenshots and different functionality than that present in Dapper.

To verify:

1. Launch the services-admin application from Gnome using System --
Administration -- Services or by opening a terminal and typing
services-admin

2. Enter your sudo password

3. Click the Help button in the lower left of the Services Settings
window.

4. Click the Getting Started link. Notice the difference in look and
features from the application that Dapper is actually using.

[Bug 54779] Re: Keyring password

2006-09-28 Thread Akshat Aranya
I'm facing a variation of the problem that Jay Pipes is facing. In my
case, if I run Evolution in Gnome, it asks for the keyring password.
After that, things work fine. However, if I run Evolution without Gnome
(i.e., using Fluxbox), Evolution does not ask for the keyring password
at startup. Instead, it asks for the passwords for the individual
accounts. Even though I check remember password, Evolution only
remembers the IMAP account password whereas it forgets the password on
my other account which is POP-S. Every time it decides to pop the email
from that account, it keeps prompting me for the password which is
annoying as hell!

[Bug 62810] Re: [edgy] GTK-based apps crash when run through ssh tunnel between powerpc and i386 machines

2006-09-28 Thread Michael R. Head
More data: I have 4 machines running the very latest edgy:
firestorm: AthlonXP desktop with NVidia binary driver running compiz. 24 bit
display depth
phoenix: P4 Mobile laptop with opensource ATI drivers on a radeon 7500 running
metacity, 16 bit display depth
firefighter: P4 HT desktop running nvidia binary drivers (remote machine, so I
don't have access to its display)
flambe: G4 (ppc) Mac Mini running opensource ATI drivers on a radeon 9200,
running metacity. 24 bit display depth

On firestorm's display, only gtk apps from flambe fail, and, according to gdb,
they fail with the cairo_xlib_surface_get_display() call.
On phoenix's display, only gtk apps from flambe fail, and, according to gdb,
they fail with the cairo_xlib_surface_get_display() call.
On flambe's display, the only gtk apps that _work_ are the ones from localhost,
all others (from firefighter, firestorm, and phoenix), fail in the
cairo_xlib_surface_get_display() call.

I'm trying to find a dapper box to get more info. I wish I had another
PPC box, but I don't. Still, the evidence is pretty strong that there's
some problem.

Additionally, as I was reading over the crash report another 10 crash
reports popped up for the same program.

[Bug 62832] Difference between show all and show untranslated

2006-09-28 Thread Yannig MARCHEGAY \(Kokoyaya\)
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-keyring-manager

When I try to translate gnome-keyring-manager by
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/edgy/+source/gnome-keyring-manager/+pots/gnome-keyring-manager/oc/+translate?batch=10show=all
I can see 1 → 10 of 96 results (so I guess there are 96 strings to be
translated).
When I select show untranslated as I usually do
(https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/edgy/+source/gnome-keyring-manager/+pots/gnome-keyring-manager/oc/+translate?batch=10show=untranslated),
I can see 1 → 10 of 202 results: the number of string changed!
How can that be possible?

[Bug 62832] Re: Difference between show all and show untranslated

There are only 96 strings, so having 202 untranslated doesn't make any sense.
It happens with the Gaelic translation too.

Right, it happens with POFiles without any work done yet. Once you do
