[Bug 71476] Re: Video scaling in totem is unclean

2006-12-15 Thread Sebastian Dröge
You probably use xvimagesink on arch linux and ximagesink on Ubuntu for
some reason... but this is just a guess.

When you run gstreamer-properties, which video output is selected?
Does it work when you change to XWindow System (X11/Xshm/Xv) and click
on test?

I only get this error sometimes, most of the time it starts playing
something there... but without audio or video output. When running with
mplayer (look up the correct URL in the page sources) I get at least
sound... so really a GStreamer problem, I'll forward it upstream

gnome-gv (1:2.6.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Gnome-gv is now part of the Gnome core system and therefore switched
version numbers to always match the Gnome release number it belongs
to. Sadly, unwittlingly of this fact, I already uploaded the new
2.7.0 which was a very bad choice as Debian will use Gnome 2.6 in sarge.
Now I think I better upload quickly a 2.6 with Epoch instead of
getting update troubles later.

[Bug 34233] Re: g-p-m failing to use DPMS to power off display

2006-12-15 Thread Johannes Hansen
Yes, there is really an issue with the lid state.

If
cat /proc/acpi/button/lid/LID/state
always returns:
state: closed
whether laptop is closed or open, you have an acpi bug...

But g-p-m NEVER does dpms on when lid state = closed.
The bug is fixed in g-p-m 2.17.1, where you're able to set a gconf-key to make
it work.

apport already does that, you can run apport-retrace --download-debug
on the crash file, it'll download the package and use the dump from the
crash file to generate a debug backtrace. You can also use
apport-retrace --gdb to attach gdb to the dump then

2006-12-15 Thread Guillaume Desmottes
I mark this bug as needinfo but i'm tempted to close it as i'm pretty
sure we've fixed this crash on HEAD.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
Unfortunately, that stack trace is missing some elements that will help a lot
to solve the problem, so it will be hard for the developers to fix that crash.
Can you get us a stack trace with debugging symbols? Please see
http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces for more information on how to do so.
Thanks in advance!

[Bug 75873] script folders

2006-12-15 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I'd like to comment on an idea I read on Ubuntuforums: script folders.
These would be like common folders containing items, only that a given
script would be applied to all files copied to them.

Imagine that I want my wallpapers to be at the same size as my screen:
1280x800. However, all the walls that I download are at bigger sizes, so
I need to resize them one at a time, which can get really cumbersome.

With script folders I could create a folder named 1280x800, and linked
to a script used to resize images to that size. Any files copied to it
would be automatically resized AND stored in the folder.

What do you think about it?

[Bug 75873] Re: script folders

2006-12-15 Thread Roel Huybrechts
Thanks for your report. Your idea might get more attention and have
the possibility of being implemented if you would submit a
specification for this.

You should first check whether it already exists at the Ubuntu specs
page (https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+specs) in Launchpad. If
that is the case, feel free to contact the drafter of that spec about
your comments/suggestions. Otherwise you can start writing a spec
following the steps described in

thanks. guess i need to look elsewhere -- the lid state seems to be working

[Bug 72750] Re: Nautilus creating directory on NTFS partition

Hi,

You should choose your locale according to how your system is actually set.
To get all the configuration supported by your system, try 'locale -a' in a
terminal, and choose according to what is your default language.
I guess it should be pt_BR.utf8 or something.
Say me if it works.

Thanks.

First you are dealing with people with spend time to try fixing the
problems you face, if you have a question or problem you can formulate
some correct phrase for it, LOL? doesn't speak a lot and is not an
useful comment.

It looks like you are not familar about how most launchpad is working.
When a bug is fixed to the current distribution it's marking as fixed.
Backport tasks are used for problems which need to be fixed to previous
distribution. Backport to stable is not a trivial procedure though (you
can read about it on the https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates
page), a minor problem like that one (the 7zr is not the most used
format, that's not destroying datas, few people complained about it) is
not a candidate for an update.

For the three version that bug is likely to concern edgy only, the 7zr
was not splited on dapper

prevu is a tool that automates backporting of packages from newer ubuntu
versions to older.
This is a strange policy I must say. First of all I haven't tested feisty at
all - I would suppose it works because it has the newer plugin, but I can't
guarantee 100%.
The bug says h264 don't work on ppc dapper - how can it be considered fixed?
anyone using ppc dapper still have that problem - not only that but you are
implying the bug is not going to be fixed at all. (and by the way, I'm not even
sure if fiesty will have ppc support eventually, which means the bug might be
here to stay forever...)

When I wrote current I meant the distribution where the work is
happening, stable distributions by definition are stable (i.e: don't
change a lot). You did notice wrong by opening that bug, and it has been
fixed and the fix will be available with the next version of the
product. That works like that for most of computer softwares, you report
a problem, people working on the software fix it and the next version
they make available has the fix. We do only backport security fixes and
fixes for important bugs because uploading to stable is not an easy
task, a rational has to be written, the patch has to be tested, reviewed
and approved by the quality team to make sure it's not creating any
problem

[Bug 30843] Re: Evolution need to be restarted to list a new contact

2006-12-15 Thread Ivailo Stoyanov
I can confirm this bug in Ubuntu 6.06 LTS, but for me a simple restart
didn't solve the problem -- I had to run evolution --force-shutdown
before starting Evolution again (as suggested in Bug #47329).

I hope Dapper will be fixed soon, as this bug is really annoying.

[Bug 69039] Re: H 264 movies are not played properly in PPC dapper

2006-12-15 Thread Sebastien Bacher
There is thousand of bugs opened and backporting a fix to stable
requires efforts, somebody has to work on the update, make sure it works
fine, then somebody has to approve it then quality people have to make
sure it works fine and not creating any regression. We can't spend those
efforts on every problem and usually bugs are fixed to the currently
worked distribution and the fix is available with the next stable
version. Fixes are backport for security issues and for problems which
are juged annoying enough to require a quick fix. gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg
is an universe package, which means it's not officially supported, the
distribution team is not going to spend effort backporting a fix then.
Maybe somebody from the MOTU team will be willing to work on that though

[Bug 75927] Share Folder (NFS) can't change via Nautilus 2.16.1

2006-12-15 Thread toby dacre
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I think this is a nautilus bug but it is hard to be sure.
Nautilus 2.16.1 under Ubuntu Edgy

Steps to reproduce:

1. open nautilus in home folder
2. right click a folder choose 'share folder'
3. choose share through NFS
4. add an allowed host (any type)
5. click OK

now try to change it

6. right click the same folder choose 'share folder'
7. delete the allowed host
or
7. add a new allowed host
8. click OK

The changes are not recognised the solution is to edit /etc/exports

additionally

a) The nfs-server should be restarted (or other refresh) when a folder
is shared via nautilus

b) There should be a way to see that a folder is being shared in
nautilus

c) if you have a smb and nfs share it get's very hard to tell what's
going on

[Bug 61767] Re: External disks PPC bootstrap partition are automounted

Nope :(

debian patching is a bit too fuzzy. in:

 /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/20-storage-methods.fdi

match key=volume.fsusage string=filesystem

!-- Should always ignore Apple Bootstrap partitions (it would be --
!-- a security hole to mount it) - TODO: should use the bootable --
!-- flag from the Mac partition table instead --
  match key=volume.fstype string=hfs
match key=volume.label string=bootstrap
  merge key=volume.ignore type=booltrue/merge
/match
  /match

!-- Here follow volumes we specifically want to ignore - it is the --
!-- responsibility of software higher in the stack (e.g. gnome-vfs) --
!-- amd mount programs (e.g. Mount() on HAL) to respect volume.ignore --
  merge key=volume.ignore type=boolfalse/merge

moving the line
 merge key=volume.ignore type=boolfalse/merge

before
  match key=volume.fstype string=hfs

works though.

2006-12-15 Thread Dylan McCall
Mitch:
I do not have that problem with the USplash (although it does some ugly stuff
when hibernating!).

However, I am experiencing another really weird graphics glitch in Edgy,
and I have subscribed to its bug report: I can sort of describe it as a
really strange vertical / horizontal artifact-filled scrolling mess
which occurs when logging out, restarting X... maybe something to do
with changing graphics modes. I've noticed that it flashes assets used
in the Human theme, so probably stuff left in VRAM...

My specs:
Ubuntu is running on a very old Compaq Presario with a 500 mHz Celeron
processor and an Intel Integrated Graphics card. (i810).
Both bugs happen with both the i810 driver and the alternative intel driver.

Installing from the same disk (and with the same procedure) on a
different computer does not result in any of these glitches.

2006-12-15 Thread Darren Hinderer
