[Bug 86976] shortcut folders don't show custom icons
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus This is the situation: - I have a music folder on my home directory, where I keep music albums, a folder for each. - For easier handling, each of these subfolders have a folder.jpg file inside, with the album cover. I have alt+clicked each of them, and set this jpg as their custom icon. Therefore, my music folder looks like this: http://img463.imageshack.us/img463/8267/pantallazomusicabo1.png -So, I created a shortcut on my desktop leading to this music folder. It would be logical for this folder to look exactly like its original, but this is what it looks like instead: http://img463.imageshack.us/img463/2896/pantallazomusica1gu7.png As you see only a handful of folders display their custom icons, and it's the ones I have set by hand. The rest show the usual folder icon. They should have inherited the custom icons from their real counterparts, but they didn't. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- shortcut folders don't show custom icons https://launchpad.net/bugs/86976 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 86989] open/save dialog don't restore last remote url
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit I use gEdit to edit files located on remote servers, via SSH. Whenever I load a file, the open dialog starts from my home directory, and every time I have to write the entire URL to the server (ssh://212.56.x.x/foo/bar). It would be great if gEdit would remember the last remote URL I browsed (I think it has the correct behavior when opening/saving local files), so the remote directory I'm working on would show automatically in the open/save dialogs. I'm using gEdit 2.17.5 on Ubuntu Feisty Fawn, updated every day. Hope you have understood my _very_ bad English :) Cheers, Stephane ProblemType: Bug Date: Thu Feb 22 11:00:50 2007 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 7.04 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/gedit Package: gedit 2.17.5-0ubuntu1 ProcCmdline: gedit ProcCwd: /home/step ProcEnviron: PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games LANG=it_IT.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: gedit Uname: Linux illusion 2.6.20-8-generic #2 SMP Tue Feb 13 05:18:42 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux ** Affects: gedit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- open/save dialog don't restore last remote url https://launchpad.net/bugs/86989 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 87006] Rhythmbox last.fm player can't play streams (plugin needed)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox I just tried to use the new last.fm player in rhythmbox. When I double click to Neighbour Radio I just get the answer that there is no plugin to handle that. On the console I get the following message: don't know how to handle audio/mpeg. Maybe rhythmbox should recommend to install the right library. After I've installed some mp3-related libraries the last.fm player in rhythmbox seems to work correctly. Maybe it is also possible to already ask in synaptic if last.fm support or mp3-support should be installed. This is true for version: 0.9.8 of Rhythmbox. By the way: it is quite annoying that you have to type that much of text just to file a bug report. I would propose a checkbox in launchpad that appears after the second click to submit bug report. If you check that the (too short) bug report is reported anyways. [Bug 87022] When an app prevents from umounting, tell the user which app it is
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager This is kind of wishlist bug, but very useful for a novice user. When there is a mounted drive (let's say, USB pendrive) and there is some app using it (let's say, a gnome-terminal cd'ed to /media/pendrive), if the user tries to umount it from Nautilus (right click - umount), a window appears telling him/her that An application is using the drive and it cannot be umounted. What I ask is that it would be very useful to internally run a lsof /media/pendrive (or whatever path) and tell the user which app is preventing the umount. For example, a message saying Gnome-terminal is preventing the umount tells the user which app he/she must close to complete the umount. [Bug 87027] horrible performance in feisty
Public bug reported: There seems to have been a performance regression in feisty's VTE. My working setup is to have several fullscreen (1280x800) gnome-terminals on 3 virtuial desktops and switch between them. This worked fine in dapper+edgy but when I upgraded to feisty I started to see a visible (i.e. 1-2 second) lag when switching between desktops. xterm doesn't appear to have this problem and after reading 85575, I decided to try downgrading libvte* back to edgy. [Bug 87035] Ctrl-Z shrinks window with Dvorak keyboard layout
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-terminal The Z key in Dvorak layout is the same key as - / _ in German layout. So Gnome-terminal does not take the translated (according to the user's layout) keys for determining its shortcuts, but it uses some more low- level notion, wrongly. The effect is that I can't press Ctrl-Z in the terminal to freeze a program, because that triggers the zoom-window function. By the way, it's interesting that the Ctrl-- (i.e. the shortcut pressed with the Dvorak - ) ALSO shrinks the terminal window; the Dvorak Ctrl-+ also works. So probably it's only one shortcut too much. With German layout, the + / * is on the same key as = / + in Dvorak, so naturally, I don't see a difference there. This is Gnome-terminal 2.16.1 on Ubuntu 6.10, fully updated as of Feb 22nd, '07. ** Affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Ctrl-Z shrinks window with Dvorak keyboard layout https://launchpad.net/bugs/87035 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 87070] Gnome-keyring should use PAM
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-keyring If a program that use gnome-keyring is launhed at the start of your session (ie network-manager), you will be prompted for your password just after your login ! This is really bad. But it's even worst because the gnome-keyring password is different than the login password ! So things become way too complex for a normal user and just boring for the average geek. A solution exist : change gnome-keyring so it uses PAM. This is described here : http://johnny.chadda.se/2007/02/21/unlock-the-gnome-keyring-upon-login/ I think that it should be the default for Feisty, given that network- manager will be installed by default. Also, it might automatically solve this bug : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-keyring-manager/+bug/35959 ** Affects: gnome-keyring (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Gnome-keyring should use PAM https://launchpad.net/bugs/87070 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 87082] slows to a crawl after some use
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-terminal When I first use gnome-terminal, it starts out at an acceptable speed. However, after 5 minutes or so of use, almost everything I do in it (scrolling, any command with output, vim, sometimes even just typing) pegs the CPU at 100%. Doing a reset fixes the problem for another few minutes. This problem is independent between tabs, so if one tab is slow, another might still be acceptably fast. My instinct is that it has to do with the scrollback buffer. If I immediately enter vim, that terminal seems to be immune from the effects of this bug. Even when the buffer size is well within reasonable limits at under 200 lines, gnome-terminal still pegs the CPU at 100%. ** Affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- slows to a crawl after some use https://launchpad.net/bugs/87082 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
