[Bug 41105] Re: [dapper] totem-xine and xine can't play some .asf files correctly
OK I have extracted the URL to the stream in question (so other folks won't have to go and install flash and battle the web site to test this). The URL is mmsh://live.mediaserver.kataweb.it/retea?MSWMExt=.asf . On Feisty the video (images and sound) work on xine-ui with the ffmpeg codecs installed. There is no longer a need for the w32codecs to be installed in order to see this. With gstreamer-totem the play area remains black even after buffering finishes and there is no sound (although there does appear to be network activity). The following is produced on the console: $ totem 'mmsh://live.mediaserver.kataweb.it/retea?MSWMExt=.asf' (totem:20239): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to add `mmsh://live.mediaserver.kataweb.it/retea?MSWMExt=.asf' to the list of recently used resources, but not MIME type was defined 0:00:05.837002000 20239 0x863c400 ERROR ffmpeg :0:: warning: first frame is no keyframe Nicolò: The original problem described in this bug report (xine can't play this asf) has probably been fixed in feisty. [Bug 88815] Re: Sluggish rendering since xorg 7.2 update
A couple of things/differences I noted whilst reading through your logs: - The Xorg.0.log from Herd5 mentions it can't initialize the GLX extensions, since it is using the Nvidia libglx.so Might this be the cause? - In the Xorg.0.log from Herd5 AIGLX is disabled (since it can't load the GLX module) - The Xorg.0.log from Herd5 mentions it loads a vm86 module (libvm86.so), which isn't loaded in the Herd4 log. well, same timing. i also just tested it with vino 2.17.92-0ubuntu1, and i confirm: it still doesn't work. i'm wondering if the VNC clients we're using also support that. I'm using ultraVNC. I'm saying that because both computers have slovenian keyboards, and that also the slovenian specific keys čšž don't work through that VNC connection, which is another problem than alt-GR. [Bug 23781] [disks-admin] Selecting partition number then cancelling a format crashes Disk Manager
Public bug reported: Distribution: Ubuntu 5.10 (breezy) Package: gnome-system-tools Severity: Normal Version: GNOME2.12.1 unspecified Gnome-Distributor: Ubuntu Synopsis: Selecting partition number then cancelling a format crashes Disk Manager Bugzilla-Product: gnome-system-tools Bugzilla-Component: disks-admin Bugzilla-Version: unspecified BugBuddy-GnomeVersion: 2.0 (2.12.0) Description: Description of the crash: I have a secondary drive /dev/hdb which I usually mount at /home/shared. When attempting to use Disk Manager to format the disk, it crashes for a specific set of conditions. Upon entering the Disk Manager, I have the drive unmounted, the access path is none ... Steps to reproduce the crash: 1. Open a /dev/hdb in Disk Manager 2. Select the Partitions tab, notice that Partition 1 is ENabled in the list. 3. Select the Properties tab and then re-select the Partitions tab, notice that Partition 1 is DISabled 4. Select Partition 1 from the list 5. Click the Format button 6. Cancel the Format dialog, crashes _every_ time on my system. Expected Results: Partition X should always be enabled on entering the tab (?) and selecting it should not crash the Format dialog How often does this happen? Every time when the above actions are followed. Additional Information: If you just go to the Partions tab, open the Format dialog then cancel it, it works. [Bug 85371] Gstreamer returns wrong total time in audio tracks
Public bug reported: Gstreamer doesn't return correct total audio duration in several files. Try playing mp3's for ex. in audio players that use gstreamer as a backend like Banshee or Totem. [Bug 88815] Re: Sluggish rendering since xorg 7.2 update
disturbedsaint, Thanks, let me address your points: 1. That's right, nvidia-glx is installed on my system and so the nv driver can't initialize GLX. 2. Ditto, see above. 3. This may be a symptom of the above too, so I don't know. In light of this, I'm running the benchmarks again, this time using the herd 5 livecd instead, and have copied xorg.conf from herd 4. I checked the resulting logs and libvm86.so is still being loaded; it's because of the new xorg build, I believe. I ran a quick test, x11perf -umove - here's the results (herd 4 livecd vs herd 5 livecd): 514000.0 186000.0 ( 0.36) Moved unmapped window (4 kids) 503000.0 185000.0 ( 0.37) Moved unmapped window (16 kids) 496000.0 184000.0 ( 0.37) Moved unmapped window (25 kids) 485000.0 184000.0 ( 0.38) Moved unmapped window (50 kids) 472000.0 182000.0 ( 0.39) Moved unmapped window (75 kids) 465000.0 181000.0 ( 0.39) Moved unmapped window (100 kids) 452000.0 175000.0 ( 0.39) Moved unmapped window (200 kids) As you can see, these results reflect my initial benchmarks on my installed herd 5 system. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Description of the problem: Whenever an evolution window is closed a dbus warning is logged in .xsession-errors . Steps to reproduce: 1. Start a gnome-terminal . 2. In the gnome-terminal type tail -n 0 -f ~/.xsession-errors 3. Start evolution . 4. Press Ctrl-W to close the evolution Window . 5. Look at the gnome-terminal . Expected results: Ideally nothing but perhaps about 4 lines from evolution for basic debugging. Actual results: CalDAV Eplugin starting up ... (evolution-2.10:11956): evolution-mail-WARNING **: ignored this junk plugin: not enabled or we have already loaded one (evolution-2.10:11956): e-utils-WARNING **: Plugin 'Bogofilter junk plugin' failed to load hook 'org.gnome.evolution.mail.junk:1.0' ** (evolution-2.10:11956): DEBUG: mailto URL command: evolution %s ** (evolution-2.10:11956): DEBUG: mailto URL program: evolution process 11956: The last reference on a connection was dropped without closing the connection. This is a bug in an application. See dbus_connection_unref() documentation for details. Most likely, the application was supposed to call dbus_connection_close(), since this is a private connection. Additional information: I have set my network connection to be static and have turned off the NetworkManager applet (/usr/sbin/NetworkManager is still running though). [Bug 86142] Re: Jerky rendering in Epiphany (herd4)
News: Some friends of mine noticed the same issue — on Digg, last.fm, etc. — with any gecko-based browser in Feisty. Browsing these sites rapidly increases X's CPU usage up to 100%, so whole system slows down. It must be something with gecko and CSS rendering. -- Jerky rendering in Epiphany (herd4) https://launchpad.net/bugs/86142 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 89691] Re: gedit load too slow
Thank you for your bug. I don't confirm that, on my athlon 3000+ gedit takes around 1 second to start. [Bug 89709] Screensaver freezes on display in Ubuntu Herd 5
Public bug reported: I have the screensaver set to run after 3 minutes of inactivity. When I come back to my machine after about an hour or so, the screensaver is frozen on the screen, i.e. not moving. I believe that the Ubuntu session is still running and active because I can hear hard disk activity from my folding-at-home running. I can not get display back, so I have to hit reset button on computer to restart the system. I will do some more experimenting with it to see if I can narrow down the problem. Do you need any further information in order to explore problem. Thanks. [Bug 87640] Add/Remove Applications does not find Totem codecs
Public bug reported: If Totem (2.17.92) is missing a codec, it gives a message like: --- The playback of this movie requires a MPEG-2 System Stream demuxer plugin which is not installed. --- But if I search in 'Applications Add/Remove Applications' for words and phrases from the Totem message, like MPEG-2 or MPEG-2 System Stream demuxer plugin I get There is no matching application available. Now I know this is not true because if I search for just MPEG I get what I'm looking for. So the problem here is that the search function is not finding the correct packages needed by Totem and suggested in the failure message. I see two ways around this: 1. 'Add/ Remove packages' creates specific links for keywords mentioned in Totem, like 'MPEG-2'. This could be a fast way to get around the problem, but a poor solution. 2. 'Add/ Remove packages' changes the summary text of the relevant packages so they mention the keywords used by Totem. This seems to me like the best option. Either way the developers of Totem, developers of 'Add/Remove applications' and Canonical should talk about a way of coordinating their efforts to avoid these kinds of problems. Could this regarded as a collaboration bug? ** Affects: totem (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Needs Info -- Add/Remove Applications does not find Totem codecs https://launchpad.net/bugs/87640 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
