[Bug 126719] GDM does not kill resistant user processes after logout

2007-07-18 Thread felix.rommel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Description:

The bug is described in Gnome's bugzilla:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=152907

I don't know if they will fix it upstream, so please provide a patch
that kills resistant user processes after logging out of Gnome session.
Even if user did a CtrlAltBackspace to kill the X server it's
unacceptable that there will be resistant user processes in memory!

Following bug in Launchpad deals with a similar problem:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/49594

Expected behavior:

If Gnome devs are not interested in killing processes after
CtrlAltBackspace was hit by a user, GDM should have a patch that
kills ALL user processes which are still running. Thanks.

[Bug 10874] Re: totem-gstreamer crashes on swf files

2007-07-18 Thread QowQow
Hi Sebastien,
At the risk of logging something that you already know about, here is my
offering ... i noticed you'd left this open so i decided to throw this in here
instead of starting a new thing:

the error message on trying to open a .swf file -

ffdemux_swf: Element doesn't implement handling of this stream. Please
file a bug.

You'd asked before for a link to a bugged file. I'd pass this on if i
knew how ... also, there was a text file made up when i closed the app
the first time and have no idea where it was saved though ... I'm a n00b
to the tux OS I'm afraid.

let me where I can find what you need to know and I'll pass it along.

[Bug 126729] sometimes the remote host stops communication (freezing)

2007-07-18 Thread Zoltan Kovacs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

I regularly use gnome-terminal for remote connections via ssh. I
randomly experience that after a while (mainly as I enter such commands
which give bigger outputs) gnome-terminal sometimes refuses to
communicate with the peer (the remote server). To work around the
problem, I usually login on a different terminal page.

[Bug 126698] Re: error while fetching mail

2007-07-18 Thread hggdh
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, there is not enough information to allow
us to help you. Can you please answer the following questions:

1. Does it happen always, for all mail servers?
2. What type of email server(s) is being targeted (Exchange, POP, etc)?
3. If it is *not* an Exchange mail server, please close Evolution, and re-run
it from a terminal as follows:
 env CAMEL_DEBUG=all evolution --component=mail evo.log 21
4. If it *is* an Exchange mail server, run the command below from a terminal:
env E2K_DEBUG=2 evolution --component=mail evo.log 21
5. Then use it until you get the error (more than one occurance would be good);
6. then stop Evolution, and upload (as an attachment) the resulting log file
(in the above command it will be called 'evo.log').

Thank you.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is
important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers.
You can learn more about finding the right package at

[Bug 126750] Re: exchange mail keeps on crashing, can't send emails through exchange

2007-07-18 Thread hggdh
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we do not have, yet, enough data to
understand the error.

Since this deals with Exchange, please:

1. open a terminal (gnome-terminal, for example)
2. issue the command 'evolution --force-shutdown' (without the quotes)
3. after the above command is completed, start Evolution as follows:
env E2K_DEBUG=2 evolution --component=mail evo.log 21
4. wait for the error, or click on the Send/Receive button.
5. quit Evolution after you see the error message.
6. upload (as an attachment) the resulting log file here (called 'evo.log' in
step (3) above.

If I disable automaticly bring pictures when connected from

[Bug 126750] Re: exchange mail keeps on crashing, can't send emails through exchange

2007-07-18 Thread hggdh
Thank you. There are two options now for us:

1. try to bypass the error
2. keep on zeroing in the error.

For (1) you can try to delete the ~/.evolution/mail/exchange/whatever
is the mail account directory. Research upstream and sideways suggest
that by removing this directory users were able to regain access to OWA.
If you decide to go this way, please do save the directory before
removing it. The following sequence of commands from a terminal will do
it (comments are preceded by a '#', and request manual intervention of
some sort from you):

   evolution --force-shutdown
   ps -ef | grep evolution-exchange
   # from the output, grab the pid number for the evolution-exchange -- if one
is shown!
   # if there is indeed an evolution-exchange process running, kill it:
kill pid of the evolution-exchange process
   cd ~/.evolution/mail/exchange
   ls
   # the output of 'ls' will give you as many directories as Exchange accounts
you have. You seem to have just one.
  rm -rf your account directory

Then normally restart Evolution.

For (2)... there is no consensus that I could find on what is the root
cause of this error. So we will have to dig in more -- which means I
will need another debug run, but with some new steps.

Please tell me how you want to proceed.

[Bug 126825] External ext3 disk doesn't auto-mount

2007-07-18 Thread Alec Faithfull
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

After reformatting a recently-purchased Seagate FreeAgent 320GB external
disk to ext3 (it was supplied as a pre-formatted NTFS drive), it doesn't
automatically mount when plugged in. It's auto-mounted if the disk is
present when the computer is restarted, but unmounting and unplugging
the disk in this condition leads to the same problem. It works as
expected when mounted manually, and it auto-mounted without issues prior
to being reformatted. The disk is connected via USB 2.0, I'm using an
up-to-date installation of Feisty Fawn, and gnome-volume-manager
--version reports gnome-volume-manager version 2.17.0.

Starting gnome-volume-manager in a terminal gives the following output
when the disk is plugged in:

[Bug 126333] gutsy audio volume box problem when using keyboard shortcut

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On my sony vaio VGN-FZ11M, running metacity, and having been upgraded

2007-07-18 Thread Brian Murray
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is
important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers.
You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in gnome-applets-data.

Additionally you may consider adding a screenshot of the issue to your
bug report as that may be more helpful than a text description of the
problem.

[Bug 126837] Speed slow copies

2007-07-18 Thread Rafael Guerra García
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I have discovered that when i'm doing a copy, if i press UP button in
nautilus (changing folder i'm viewing) copies speeds up. I think
nautilus is getting information from the files when they still are not
finished copying, and these reads interferes with writes. This is very
noticeable in external drives.

[Bug 44989] Re: Doesn't print (large) PDF files

2007-07-18 Thread Mikko Saarinen
I have a 11,8 MB PDF file which doesn't print at all from Evince (Ubuntu 7.04).
I know It's insanely large file, but for that you have to blame Scribus and not
me ;) After all, it contains just two small images and some text... Somehow it
ended up being almost 12 megabytes. Huh.
Anyway, if I try to print the file, there will be no icon to show that the
printing has started and surely nothing will come out of the printer. There was
nothing in /var/log/cups/error_log, though.

How can I send the file to be printed using the bash shell, so I could
see what happens and, more importantly, what doesn't happen?

Surely it is Open with... submenu bug. At the first time I tried it

Not only gimp, but any other apps are also affected. I've tried it on

called via the Open with ... submenu. Remember, it won't happen on
