[Bug 135228] Re: GNOME session freezes to black screen, Failsafe GNOME session works fine

Thank you for your reply, but could you please go into more details
instead of giving a standard answer? I don't understand, if this
freezing at login is not intended behavior how can it not be a bug?

[Bug 135228] Re: GNOME session freezes to black screen, Failsafe GNOME session works fine

2007-09-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The bug tracker is about clearly describing issues to get them fixed.
What you are doing is asking for help getting your system working again,
you should use the support tracker for that, they will help you to
figure what is wrong and when you have figured what is creating the
issue you can open a bug on the right package with extra informations

[Bug 13199] Re: Drag n' Drop directories from File-Roller is somewhat tricky

2007-09-04 Thread Vytas
Ubuntu may face a bad review on osnews ;D

OK, now seriously.
As I've wrote, I tried looking into this myself. This is FAR from trivial.
Nautilus source isn't the cleanest code on earth, especially that DnD part.
There exists and old patch to add XdndDirectSave to nautilus, but it's just too
old, and doesn't work at all (not sure if it ever did). So I am not surprised
no one managed to fix this in the last GNOME release cycle, Sure Canonical
could hire a developer to fix this problem, but their resources are limited too
I guess.

So, in short, this is the case where UBUNTU/GNOME NEEDS YOUR HELP!

What I don't like about Ubuntu developers though, this bug is marked as
'Medium' importance. This is ridiculous. It actually is critical, I can imagine
people trying to drag-n-drop files from archive and shouting WTF?!

happens *every* and *any* attempt to open an svg here

1 right click an svg image in nautilus
2 select open with image viewer
3 open a console and issue
 eog

after a wait of approx 20-30 seconds you should see

** (eog:5965): WARNING **: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include:
the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy
blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was
broken.
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

eog will now no longer work untill after a reboot, even if you restart
dbus etc

interestingly I can open jpg's just fine here...

The procedure to reproduce the error is as follows:
1. Start EOG
2. Rotate a picture
3. Save the rotated picture
4. Go to the next picture (happens automatically)
5. Do steps 2 to 4 several times
6. After approx. 10 repetitions EOG freezes without an error message

[Bug 137241] Evince printing in reverse sheet order + multipage yields strange ordering

2007-09-04 Thread Almer S. Tigelaar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Version: Evince 0.8.1 (with poppler 0.5.4)
OS: Ubuntu Feisty Fawn on an AMD64
Printer: HP PSC 1510

Steps to reproduce:
1) Open a PDF document consisting of at least two pages with evince.
2) Choose file|print.
3) Select a physical printer (a HP PSC 1510 in my case).
3) On the General tab tick the 'Reverse Pages' box.
4) Go to the Page Setup tab and select '2' for 'Pages per Sheet'.
5) Finally click the Print button.

The default printing order results in the last page of the document being
printed last
and thus being on top in my printers queue. This is inconvenient and requires
me to
manually re-arrange the pages. Hence the Reverse Pages option would be a very
good solution for this.

Whilst this solution works well for prints where only a single page is printed
on each physical
sheet it does not yield the expected result when multiple pages are printing on
a sheet.
The funny thing is that when doing this the ordering of the pages is _also_
reversed on the
sheet itself. Thus page 1 is on the right side of the sheet, while page 2 is on
the left side.
I would expect this to be reversed. The dialog suggests that the sheet order is
reversed only
(by the two little page icons in the first tab of the print dialog, that
reverse when you tick reverse)
whilst what actually happens is that the page order is reversed ...

My suggestion would be to not reverse the page order, but only the sheet order.
Given an input of: 1 2 3 4 5 6
And Pages per Sheet set to '2'
The output page order (to the sheets) should be: 5 6 3 4 1 2
And _not_: 5 6 4 3 2 1 (as it is now).
Of course this problem also extends to _more_ than 2 pages per sheet.

One could also make this dependent on the locale. It might be normal in some
other countries / cultures
to read through pages right to left instead of left to right

Maybe the Ubuntu dev team could check with the Nautilus developers how
high on their agenda implementing XdndDirectSave is. If they reckon it's
unlikely they have this ready for Gnome 2.22, then an alternative

[Bug 127198] gutsy/amd64: ftbfs / autopkgtest failure

2007-09-04 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

 affects /ubuntu/evolution-sharp

An instance of autopkgtest (an automatic package testing system) has
found that this package either failed to build from source - or that
it declared some tests in its debian/tests/control and that at least
one of these tests failed.

A human has briefly looked at the transcript and concluded that the
fault is a bug in the package or one of its build-dependencies.

The test environment is an amd64 Xen guest with limited amounts of
memory. The relevant dependencies are installed for each test but
very few other packages.

The top and bottom of the mail sent by the autopkgtest instance to its
administrator is included below:
