Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver gnome screensaver logs off user after timed out to engage screensaverscreensaver never comes on cannot access screensaver GUI control panel to adjust settings...as soon as you go to preferences and click on screensaver it logs you off and returns you to the main log on screenscreensaver never engages. happened after running the last update manager was able to disable screensaver through gconf edit gui only could not disable through command line took me a full day to get this far as the time to engage for the screensaver was set to 8mins so everytime I would try something and then read up on it it would log me off This is my first time with ubuntu and so far I'm loving itif this would have been windows I still would have been fighting it I'm sure. I experience the same bug, happened to me a lot trying to save attachment from Thunderbird or evolution mail client. Also happened sometimes when saving html pages. Most annoying is when trying to save attachment(s) in the email, because my colleagues sent a lot of whitepaper, presentation, customer proposal, all have to be saved into different directories. I either have to copy the filename to the clipboard or retype the correct filename because of this bug. [Bug 139554] [gutsy] gedit hangs while editing html file
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit Steps which I took to produce this bug on my computer: 1. create new untitled file with gedit 2. write a single div and a random text inside of it. (I will attach the file on which gedit crashes, so I'm not going into detail here). 3. try to enclose the random text in any kind of tag by going on the beginning of line and pressing shift + , (meaning '') 4. gedit then hangs taking all available system resources. Hi I have been putting up with this problem ever since I moved to Feisty. It is just getting worse which is why I am now looking for a solution to it but it seems that one does not exist as the root cause has not been determined. I also do not think it is an IMAP or LDAP issue but something to do with the data server as killing that takes the problem away. It is very frustrating when trying to work and time is limited. It is also not a good advert for promoting the linux desktop. Has this been referred back to Novell? Problem: For new or unexperienced user it is impossible to solve the problem, because they have no chance to access their computer (Who knows that CTRL-ALT-F1 reachs the terminal?). There should be a warning, if disk space is running low, BEFORE one installs software on the system. If there exists already such a tool (??) it should be standard extension in the packet managers... Especially for end users this is a really deadly bug, because they dont know how to fix it. Hi, OK, let me try again - but to be honest I think everything needed is in that two line description. (I'm on Gutsy but I don't think the issue is new) If I go to System-administration-Network the 'network settings' dialogue that comes up allows me to set my network connections and associate them with a 'location' so that my network settings for the office are different from home or from when I'm on the road. If I go to System-Peferences-Network proxy the 'Network proxy preferences' dialogue doesn't have the location drop down and thus I can't bind the proxy setting to the same 'location' idea that the 'network settings' has. Making the proxy settings location based is important because: 1) It's unlikely that I have the same proxy at multiple locations 2) From a security point of view if I forget to change the proxy settings when I go to an unsafe network, all my traffic could end up going through a nasty proxy (especially with 'automatic proxy configuration') That better? Public bug reported: Similar to bug #76596. I recently installed Gutsy Gibon for AMD64 on my Intel Core 2 Duo laptop, and all went exceptionally well. Much easier than 7.04 and much easier than I anticipated. Everything worked fine and after a while I was told I had updates available. I allowed the system to update and rebooted. Now when it logs on, there are no borders or titlebar! I rebooted again just in case, but it didn't help. I can temporarily fix this by running 'metacity --replace' and borders and titlebar appear. I've deleted '.metacity' from my home directory but this didn't help. I've changed nothing else, and in fact I've done nothing to the vanilla CD install except update it - not even used it much. A human has briefly looked at the transcript and concluded that the fault is a bug in the package or one of its build-dependencies. The test environment is an amd64 Xen guest with limited amounts of memory. The relevant dependencies are installed for each test but very few other packages. No, this is likely not the same issue as the upstream bug... I'm using Ekiga with my Asterisk PBX. After about 3minutes 50secs the other person is no longer intelligible, but comes across as static. You can tell when they talk because the static seems to disappear when they are quiet. Hang up, dial again, and I get about the same time before the same thing happens. Something is breaking after approx 4 minutes in the decoding of the stream. Just tested it with orca in Feisty and Gutsy: - In Feisty it works only the first time you click into the canvas, the second time it doesn't. - With Gutsy it doesn't works at all at least for me. It works well in Gnome because Gnome uses a simple treeview for the dialog, in Ubuntu we have a re write of that dialog and we use a canvas based one. In english this should be something like couldn#t create a pipeline for ..., i guess. The error- message occurs no matter which recording device i select.
