As far as I understand the bug, I can confirm it: I have german for GDM LOGIN screen. German is also the default for user sessions. Steps to reproduce: 1. Type your username and press Enter 2. Type your password 3. Now choose a language in GDM menu: Options Select language, for example in this case English USA 4. There pops up a dialog which asks you if GDM LOGIN screen shall be restarted with new language setting. 5. Click on No because I want to keep german for my GDM LOGIN screen. 6. Then there pops up another dialog which asks you if you want to make the new language setting the default for your GNOME SESSION 7. Click on Make default because I want to have my GNOME SESSION in english 8. Log out of your Gnome session 9. GDM LOGIN screen still has german as language what's correct 10. Now login to your Gnome session with same user from step 1 Results: After logging in Gnome again, german is the language for the GNOME SESSION which is WRONG, because I want to have ghe GNOME SESSION in english! For me this is not a whishlist but a BUG. GDM 2.20 is out and nothing happened upstream. Please add an entry to GDM script that kills user processes. It's very annoying to have many resistant processes running around after logging out or killing X server. I'm not sure but they maybe interfere with each other, if same user logs in again!? I think Gnome session manager for example can collide if there is already a running Gnome session manager. In my point of view this session manager is not very reliable and if there is another one still running there might be problems. Here sometimes session manager even does not start correctly after a FRESH system startup. What about computers where lots of people logout and login again many times a day? There you have lots of resistant processes staying in memory which is not a good thing in my point of view. After a hint on IRC I tried changing graphics drivers. It would seem that the bug disappears if I load the restricted graphics drivers for my NVIDIA G70 [GeForce Go 7600]. Same problem here. Feisty upgraded to Gutsy, installed kubuntu-desktop and xubuntu-desktop, and uninstalled both since starting to use Gutsy. I noticed that clicking on the 'Close' button works, although nothing happens except the window goes away, and the process terminates (iow: the button doesn't react, but still works). Doesn't gnome have a policy against wizards? i.e. it should just work? I don't use audio-podcast and I suspect a large group of rhythmbox users doesn't use it either. So they have no need for the Podcast directory. The thing is, if we create xdg-user dirs for all possible directories of all applications, the default home folder is filled with tons of folders. If we just stick to a few, like the current situation, some folders are not translated, others are, other programs need to ask the user wheter or to create it, etc. Perhaps for the long term, we should file a bug upstream agains xdg- user-dirs, do support on-the-fly creation of directories. That is: xdg-user-dir PODCASTS -- only returns directories that are defined with and that actually exist xdg-request-dir PODCASTS -- is it already defined? -- Yes: create if it does not exist, return path -- No: Ask the user, create the directory, return path xdg-gtk-request-dir PODCASTS -- same thing as xdg-request-dir but use GTK to ask the user xdg-qt-request-dir PODCASTS -- same thing as xdg-request-dir but use QT to ask the user Then it would be possible to use xdg-user-dirs to support _all_ user directories of all applications. Including directories for which no default is set in the locale. Some graphical tool to manage al that would be nice too. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I have configured an LDAP addressbook in Evolution (2.10.1) on my Feisty. While composing an email when I try to add email addresses from the LDAP address book then a dialog box requesting password pops up. However, it never gets the focus unless the background dialog box is open. I am able to enter the password only after I close the backgroud dialog box. The subtitles are built into the movie file I was trying to watch. I have found that a tool called mkvextract (package mkvtoolnix) can be used to extract the subtitles. Unfortunately, this program generates an unhandled exception each time I run it with proper parameters. I haven't found another way to do it on Linux yet. It might help to know what version of gnome you are running. You can get to this by System - About Gnome. Also, is this the save dialog, or the open dialog, or both. In gnome 2.20, I know that when you hit the Type a file name button it asks you for the specific location of the filename, not the entire path. However, I do not see a path input button. I mean this problem depends on the theme that is used, so I think it is related to ubuntulooks. As Juan Pablo Salazar Bertín wrote (two posts above) there are only two themes that have that problem. As you can see in the clearlooks.ogg, that is in the Bug attachments, there are no visual problems. I hope there is a way to solve this problem before gutsy is final. This problem is very irritating for the use of OpenOffice.
