[Bug 150024] Every Third Time I Login, I get Errors for Items on Panel
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: xorg This has been a problem for a while for me, but it seems that every third time I log in, I get several dialog boxes that popup saying that an item on the panel encountered an unexpected error and give you the options to Delete or Don't Delete the item. After clicking Don't Delete for all the dialog boxes, those items do not appear on the panel. These items include the Users menu (fast user switching), the weather report item, deskbar-applet, application launchers, and other items. Logging out and logging back in shows these items again. On 07/10/2007, Jan Claeys [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I think hiding installed documentation is definitely *not* a good idea. You're entitled to your opinion, but we've discussed this in detail over several release cycles with plenty of research. Have a read of https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HelpfulHelp which is probably the best analysis of the help system. Two of the key points are: 1. Blindly listing documents by application name without a coherent categorisation means that regular users are just going to stop reading the help and go somewhere else. 2. Quite a lot of the documents listed in the standard yelp indexes are totally irrelevant to the vast majority of desktop users and confuse them rather than assist them (e.g. GNOME Documentation XSLT Manual). E.g., where have the Python documentation tutorials gone? I thought Ubuntu wanted to promote python programming/scripting? Funnily enough that's one of the categories which is still present: Advanced Topics - Writing your own programs. Those links are broken in the current yelp, although that's another story / bug. -- Matthew East http://www.mdke.org gnupg pub 1024D/0E6B06FF -- No way to browse applications' manuals https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/147668 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 150112] GNOME needs a Trash Autopurge functionnality
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Trash purge is typically a function that could be automated. Most applications propose such a functionnality (i.e. my webmail let me configure it to automatically delete messages in the trash after 7 days) At present time lots of people get bored with emptying the trash so they prefer definitely delete files (shift+suppress) But sometimes they make a mistake and regret it : they've lost the way to restore the file by refusing using the trash See the paradox : the trash is a funtionnality that people want but refuse to use. It could be the sign that the fuctionnality has usability drawbacks and that it should be improve... Moreover people doesn't want to empty the trash in real life : why would they enjoy doing it on their computer ?! The improvement could consist in automatically suppressing the files in the trash can after a couple of days. It means that the system must know when each file has been moved to the trash can to be able to supress them selectively. Of course it should be optionnal ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: likely-dup -- GNOME needs a Trash Autopurge functionnality https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/150112 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 149615 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/149615 Same here too, using ATI 9600XT with -ati free driver and Compiz. Only happens with Compiz (i.e. using Normal or Extra effects). Without effects, EOG in full screen and slideshow modes does not flashes and works ok. The flashing starts when EOG is in full screen and attempts to hide its top menu bar; it disappears briefly, then reappears, then disappears, etc., all with flashing, as Mart said. The flashing looks like a lot of redraws of the screen (and rectangular portions of it) while EOG is trying to hide the menu bar. Seems as if the window manager (Compiz) and EOG where contending for the screen. I think it didn't happen in Gutsy alphas, with or without Compiz. Might be related to compiz 0.6? [Bug 150161] Status bar says item will be moved when copying
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus The status bar message in Nautilus incorrectly informs the user that a file will be moved when Copy is selected. To replicate: 1. Open Nautilus in any folder. 2. Press Control+C or right click on any file/folder and select Copy. Expected: The status bar message reads: item will be copied when you select the Paste command Actual: The status bar message reads: item will be moved when you select the Paste command This is clearly incorrect since subsequently selecting Paste does not move the item, but copies it, as would be expected. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Status bar says item will be moved when copying https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/150161 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
