[Bug 132349] Re: external usb disks no longer mount in gutsy

2007-11-03 Thread Suchawato
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 134712 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/134712

Hi.
I'm having similar problems.
After installing Gutsy,
My 5'th Gen iPod video will not mount at all.
And, I am having a problem with my LaCie external Hard Drive.
At first, I could not read or write to it as Gutsy annoyingly made it a Root
only permission by default. This was really irritating, but not unfixable.
Then, after I changed the permissions so that all users could
read/write/delete/change files, it seemed to work fine.
Then, the other day when I tried to copy my school assignment to the school
folder on my LaCie, it (Gutsy) would not let me. Access Denied; you don't have
permissions to write to this folder. When I used
Code:

gksudo nautilus

to try to re-change the permissions as Root, I got; The Owner Could Not Be
Changed; Couldn't change the owner of LaCie because it is on a read-only
disk.
There is no switch or button on the LaCie, that makes it read only.
It's a USB external drive. There would be no point in making it read only
It Isn't read only.
I don't care what Gutsy thinks.
I can access it fine on the Macs at school.
So at the moment, I am unable to use it on this computer.

[Bug 159685] screensavers-personal-slideshow should not show hidden directories

2007-11-03 Thread Sebastian Breier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

Last time the screensavers-personal-slideshow ran (a screensaver that shows
pictures from ~/Bilder, which is something like ~/Pictures in English), I
saw some pictures that I don't really want people to see; This was the first
time I became aware of the existence of this screensaver. The images that were
shown lie in a hidden directory in my images folder.

I request that this screensaver doesn't traverse hidden directories when
looking for images to show. Hidden directories are hidden for a reason. :-)

did you try right clicking on your taskbar and selecting Add to panel

else it will be good if you can give us the screenshots of your

[Bug 159688] movie player stops occasionally

2007-11-03 Thread Vern Wall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Player plays a radio station for a while, then stops. No music, timer
stops counting, cannot load another source, cannot quit. If I force
quit, player will not restart until I reboot the computer. Sometimes
there is an error message, Error reading source. You may not have
permission to access this file. When that happens, I can load another
source or reload the same source and operation is then normal for a

[Bug 159704] file-roller add a file via drag-and-drop broken in gutsy

2007-11-03 Thread thanos
Public bug reported:

Hi

Consider the following scenario works:

Archive.zip with files:

test1.txt
test2.txt
lib/test3.txt
lib/test4.txt

nautilus in directory /home/stuff/ and one file there, test4.txt (note
the file name).

1. in file-roller, you are viewing lib/ directory (test3.txt and test4.txt only
visible).
2. in nautilus, select from /home/stuff the file test4.txt via single click
3. drag file test4.txt from nautilus to file-roller (normal drag-drop
operation).

Expected: file-roller updates lib/test4.txt (this works OK in feisty)

Actual behaviour: file-roller adds new file test4.txt in root archive
directory in gutsy, ignoring that archive is currently in /lib
directory.

Please help - this is very annoying and the only workaround is to add a
full directory structure with the file needed!

[Bug 159707] remove partition from places menu

2007-11-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have the following partition from my SATA disk registered in
/etc/fstab:

UUID=46d90474-9fa1-47dc-82f8-1425c8430047 /media/sda1 ext3 defaults 0 2

It is being mounted correctly at boot, as I expect. I need it being
mounted at boot. Many scripts I have use data from this partition.

But it is showing up for the common user in the places menu on gnome panel.
I need it to disappear from the menu.

How can I remove a partition from places menu? I want it mounted
transparently, without showing to the user that there is a different
partition.

I mean, the user can't mount/umount the partition, so why put it in the
places menu? If you need such a thing you make a bookmark.

I see there are some old forum posts about it. This one has a screenshot from

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 28605 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/28605

I went for a normal Ubuntu installation with Totem as the default Movie Player,
added a few Gstreamer plug-ins via 'Add/Remove'
but I still cannot play my DVDs anymore. All this used to work under Feisty.
(Very frustrating to see no progress on the DVD playback front...How am I
supposed to spread Ubuntu if basic stuff like that doesn't work?)

At first Totem recognized that additional plug-ins were missing and started the
automatic codec installation process.
Once that completed it still complained with this error message:
Totem cannot play this type of media (DVD) because it does not have the
appropriate plugins to be able to read from the disc.

Then I started Totem from the command line and this is what I saw:

[Bug 154201] Re: Messages which have been opened in Outlook or OWA do not appear in Evolution Inbox - regression

2007-11-03 Thread Bd
I have a similar problem.

My work laptop runs XP and Ubuntu (formerly Feisty, now Gutsy). My work
emails are on an MS Exchange 2003 server.

Until recently, I could read, send and file emails using either Outlook
under XP, or Evolution with Ubuntu.

Since updating to Gutsy, some emails which are visible in my inbox under
Outlook are not visible under Evolution (Gutsy). The missing emails
are, however, visible if I look in my inbox using MS WebAccess (either
under XP or Ubuntu).

I am not certain, but it seems that the missing emails are those which
I have read and deleted (only on handheld) on my Blackberry.

All emails are still visible from my home pc, which is still running
Feisty.

Wierd !

[Bug 39856] Re: Panel in middle of the screen after reboot when not full-sized

2007-11-03 Thread seanvt
Hi,

Just upgraded from Feisty to Gutsy and now I have this unfortuntate
problem too. I use the bottom panel as a kind of launcher dock. I make
it 50 px tall and all I have in it are the launchers for seven progs
that I use a lot. I keep it on the bottom and I have expand unchecked,
so it's centered.

When I log out and log in it's up on top of the screen, just under the
real top panel. I can't switch it back to bottom. If I go into
properties and try to click bottom, my selection just stays as top.

So I expand it - and then it lets me move it down to the bottom.

Now I've got it on the bottom but there's space where some icons used to
be - Firefox, Thunderbird, Gedit, usually.

So I make a new launcher for firefox, for example, and drag it onto the
panel - and TWO firefox icons appear. Because the first one didn't
really go away, you just couldn't see it after the wonky top-and-bottom
behavior happened.

I'm on a Panasonic toughbook W4 with 1 Gig Ram.

This is a bummer because I'm really enjoying gutsy otherwise. :(

[Bug 159754] Library window doesn't stay expanded

2007-11-03 Thread Matthew
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Every time I start Rhythmbox it loads the library and the Browse
window is small (you can only see 3 listings in the Artist section
without scrolling down, for example). So I use the resizing bar. But
then when I shut down Rhythmbox, it goes back to the way it was when I
start it next time. Also, sometimes when I minimize Rhythmbox to the
tray and reopen it, it's back to the small window size again.

I'm pretty sure this is a bug because it didn't used to do this. I don't
think it's intentional.

[Bug 59717] Better font management needed for Ubuntu

2007-11-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Installing fonts from cd collections is a pain. Individually adding them is TOO
slow. Answering all the questions is daunting when you know little about the
terms for the fonts. Adding the AFM file should be exactly the same file except
swap PFB for AFM.
It should be easy to install fonts from a collection. A question to ask is
should their be psuedo-debs that can take a particular known cd of fonts and
just install them or something like that with all the default values for fonts.
Beyond this installing fonts by whole directory should as simple as 'add this
directory' with very few questions asked of the user.
This is brought about the LONG and PAINFUL adding fonts from the Bitstream 500
font collection CD I own. I am willing to help with usabilty assements of
making changes to the way fonts are added to the system.

[Bug 59717] Re: Better font management needed for Ubuntu

2007-11-03 Thread SEAQ - Andres Mujica
This article seems to apply here

http://architectfantasy.com/?p=25

As I briefly touched in the previous article, font installation in GNOME is
such an example. Installing fonts in GNOME is as simple as navigating to
System-Preferences-Appearance-”Fonts” Tab-”Details” Button-”Go to Fonts
Folder” Button, and finally drag and drop your new fonts in this directory.
There is another shortcut to get here however. You can open a nautilus window,
press Ctrl + L and in the address text box type: “fonts:///”.

so, i've been trying without any luck to edit this files

/etc/environment
/etc/profile
/home/username/.profile
/etc/bash.bashrc

So, perhaps this info could lead to some solution.

[Bug 159775] nautilus slow on fat32 when computer starts

2007-11-03 Thread Matthew
Public bug reported:

I think what is happening is it is cataloging the entire partition the
first time when my computer starts. after that it works fine, i can
navigate just fine. until I restart the computer.

but it is busy and unuseable for about 1 minute the first time i use it.
This never happened in Feisty. Is this a tracker issue maybe? what's
different about nautilus? thanks.

[Bug 35112] Re: MP3 track times are incorrect

This problem still occurs in Gutsy.
Even using xingmux the times are not correctly reported in some applications,
like Amarok.

[Bug 159789] gdmsetup does not use or remember a user-supplied welcome message

2007-11-03 Thread Martin Holmes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

If you start the Login Window Preferences applet, click on the Local
tab, and choose Custom for Welcome message, then provide your own
welcome message, this will be ignored when the login window is shown.
The Custom message will be retained in the applet during the session,
then lost on reboot, and replaced with the default Welcome.

Not major, but annoying. This worked fine in Feisty.

Anybody knows why ALSA doesn't fix this bug?
Or is this bug fixed in 1.0.15?
