[Bug 174877] Re: Notification Area icon the wrong size

2007-12-12 Thread CatKiller
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 34156 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/34156

That's not really the same bug at all. That bug is about the arrangement
of icons in the Notification Area. This bug is about Rhythmbox's
Notification Area icon almost always being the wrong size. 16x16 is too
small, and is not the same size as any other Gnome Notification Area
icon.

It would be nice if Rhythmbox used its own SVG icon to scale to
arbitrary size, but even without that, 16x16 just looks stupid and is
inconsistent with the rest of the desktop.

Saïvann Carignan schrieb folgendes am 12.12.2007 07:30:
 Thanks for your bug report.

Hi,
I'm not a expert with ssh but the debug outputs seems to demonstrate
that nautilus didn't have necessary files for authentication with the
 server.

It has. It's a local network, 2 computers directly connected via cable,
no Router between.
As I wrote, it works when I use SSH and SCP on Bash like ssh
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and with Konquerors fish.
I guess, it just takes Nautilus to long to verify the passphrase, so it
gives me an error.
Since SSH is a encrypted communication protocol that can be used for a
lot of purpose, can you be more specific about the configuration of the
server? Did you use sshfs to share files through SSH?

No SSHFS. Just openssh-server and openssh-client.
Unless someone that have more knowledge than me on this point, I would
suggest you to ask a question in https://answers.launchpad.net/ to see
if you get clues or answers that could help finding more informations
 about that bug/problem.

I appreciate your help, but I know how to connect via SSH with Nautilus.
It worked before.
I don't think people there can help me with that issue. But I can post
more infos later.

br
Kris

[Bug 175831] gnome-system-monitor shows network activities in relation to top amount of session

2007-12-12 Thread egnarts
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

In gnome-system-monitor under resources there is the network-cronicals.
The y-scale of the graph shows 0% - 100%. This percentage value relates to the
highest amount reached in the actual session. There is no way to show absolute
amounts.
So you have to compare the value displayed under the graph with its highest

[Bug 172550] Re: Can't print some emails and pictures to HP LaserJet 1200 series

2007-12-12 Thread Sergio Zanchetta
** Summary changed:

- Can't print email 1 M about to HP LaserJet 1200 series
+ Can't print some emails and pictures to HP LaserJet 1200 series

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: evolution

When I print print a mail or something else from evolution to both a HP
Laserjet 1200 series (connected via usb) and a network printer (same printer HP
LaserJet 1200 series) connected with a Windows 2000 PC, printer's light start
blinking as it had a document ready to print but nothing come out. It keep on
blinking until I switch off it.
Even if I print something else when blinking, nothing happens.

This occours with evolution firstly but also with other programs like
- evince.
+ evince and eog.

I noticed that the problem came up when printing image size is more than
  1 M about.

I'm using Gutsy up-to-date, I don't know with Feisty because I was used
  to use Thunderbird before.

I think it should be fixed for Hardy, due to be a LTS release.

[Bug 93026] Re: Nikon NEF image file type shown as tiff

I'm working on Ubuntustudio 7.10, gutsy gibbon, shared-mime-info is

edgy eft and skipped feisty fawn); installing the stand-allone version

love to have the right mime-typ on the NEFs (uppercase; nef lower-case-
letters is working fine), because else it doesn't give me GIMP in the
context-menue and I'm not really fond of bulk-renaming pictures in

[Bug 172550] Re: Can't print some emails and pictures to HP LaserJet 1200 series

2007-12-12 Thread Till Kamppeter
This is a hardware design problem of the HP LaserJet 12xx and 13xx
printers. Their firmware contains a PostScript interpreter, but the
printer's hardware resources (processor, default memory) are not
powerful enough to use the device as a PostScript printer. As these
printers also understand PCL you can move the rendering work load to the
computer by choosing a PCL driver (using a printer setup tool like
system-config-printer), like HPIJS for these printers. This is also the
way to use it recommended by the OpenPrinting web site and probably the
Windows driver talks PCL, too.

Alternatively, you can add memory to the printer to use it in PostScript
mode.

The main fix has to be done in system-config-printer, choosing a non-
PostScript driver for a printer with manufacturer-supplied PostScript
PPD if the non-PostScript driver is recommended.

To the developers of Evolution and EOG I suggest to make these apps
generating a more compact PostScript output when printing.

For the HPLIP error output check whether it still happens if the printer
is used in PCL mode. It can be that the error output is a consequence of
overflooding the printer's too small memory. Suggestion to the HPLIP
developers: Give some clear error feedback if a printer runs out of
memory resources.

[Bug 175862] text shadow on transparent gnome-terminal

Public bug reported:

As of in gutsy (7.10) compiz is standard and people will use, like me,
the desktop as transparent terminal as explained in

[Bug 138343] Re: evince consumes a lot of memory (1.5 GB VM)

2007-12-12 Thread dennis1200
Similar problems here on an AMD 1.8GHz w/ 1GB of RAM. It is definitely
only pronounced on scanned pdf files as opposed to searchable, copy-able
text (or maybe anything larger than 1MB). Scrolling down, the RAM usage
jumps by 50-100MB for each page I go through, and doesn't come back
down. I've attached a shot of my system monitor - you can clearly see
where CPU usage and RAM usage go through the roof (I opened and closed
it twice). And this is only a 20-page, 2MB pdf... But based on how much
ram is being used - it would totally crash a system with 1GB of RAM.

For the regular searchable pdf (151KB), memory only goes up by about
30MB total (still a bit much, in my humble opinion).

[Bug 175864] Re: EOG has broken thumbinail display

2007-12-12 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

I think this qualifies as bug, since this setting is ignored and changing it
doesn't affect anything. That I don't know if this a gnome-control-center

[Bug 172550] Re: Can't print some emails and pictures to HP LaserJet 1200 series

2007-12-12 Thread Sergio Zanchetta
@Tim

Thank you VERY MUCH for your clear explanation.
In fact I tried HP LaserJet 1200 Foomatic/hpijs driver and IT WORKS!!!
I knew that Windows use PCL driver, but during installation in
system-config-printer the Postscript one was set as raccomended.

Moreover you gave nice hints to developers to enhance performances.

In addition I would like to suggest to set HP LaserJet 1200
Foomatic/hpijs as raccomanded in system-config-printer for HARDY
(LTS), otherwise it'll be very hard printing for people with this
printer.

Thank you again Tim.

[Bug 26023] Re: Can't change font size for printing messages in evolution, and default size is too large

2007-12-12 Thread danube
Funny thing, I am printing mails fine with a good font. But when I try to print

That's not really usable, especially when you have a long text in a task, Evo
doesn't make any line break.
I'm using ubuntu 7.10 with Evo 2.12.1-0

[Bug 172550] Re: Can't print some emails and pictures to HP LaserJet 1200 series

2007-12-12 Thread Till Kamppeter
First, my name is Till and not Tim.

Changing the recommendation to a PCL driver in system-config-printer is
my intention. system-config-printer does not correctly reproduce the
recommendation from OpenPrinting here.

Your result seems to confirm that the HPLIP errors are really due to
overloading the printer's resources. So the task for the HPLIP
developers here is to make the error output more clear.

Concerning the audit errors which you get now, they come from the
AppArmor protection of CUPS. If you are still able to print via Samba to
a printer connected to a Windows box, it is no problem. If not, you can
turn off the AppArmor protection as a quick workaround:

sudo aa-complain cupsd

To turn it back on later do:

sudo aa-enforce cupsd

The AppArmor configuration of the current Hardy package of CUPS does not
restrict the SMB backend any more, so the Samba-related errors will go
away with a fully updated Hardy.

[Bug 175901] text garbled on printout of OOo PDF

2007-12-12 Thread Rafał Rzepecki
Public bug reported:

When printing in Evince a PDF generated with OpenOffice, the text output
is garbled: it seems that some glyphs are substituted for one another
(and just glyphs, not the metrics). Text renders fine on screen;
printing from commandline works perfectly.

I will attach the original PDF and evince's ps output.
