I wanted to comment again on this bug should anyone with this problem stumble upon this hoping for a solution. Although it should be obvious to veteran Linux users, the problem is alleviated by mounting the samba/cifs share directly. That is, instead of navigating to the share through nautilus: smb://hostname/sharename then streaming the media from there, mount it using mount.smb or mount.cifs: mount -t cifs //hostname/sharename /localfilesystem/mountpoint -o user=shareuser,password=sharepass Streaming media from a share mounted like this totally eliminates the problem for me. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem In Gutsy, when you have a directory of sound files that doesn't necessarily belong in a playlist, it's common to just click the file you want to hear, having the player in the background. This works good with totem, except if you want to play the same file again. It doesn't play the file opened with nautilus if it's already opened by the player. I'm now using kernel 2.6.23.12 and the driver installer from nvidia... (neither included with gutsy I know) but it works fine now.. with compiz! (although i had to run compiz --replace because desktop-effects thinks i'm not running a restricted driver) but yeah I think this will be fixed with later kernels/driver combinations. I also get the error in Gutsy (GNOME Sudoku 2.20.1). Upon completion, it does not acknowledge completion like it once did before and when I restart, it attempts to give me the same game that I completed before. I also noticed that in some scenarios, it will mark number as red when it shouldn't. If I clear the square and put the same number in again, then it leaves as black. It seems like this may be a few different bugs that all have the same result, since it seems to manifest differently on different systems. My system is a freshly installed Gutsy, and gnome-screensaver worked just fine yesterday, but today it just blanks the screen. Previews work. Starting X without GNOME (through xinit), then starting gnome- screensaver and activating it through gnome-screensaver-command -a works. I hope this helps in fixing the bug.
