[Bug 179177] Hal not initialising. I am using 7.04 and Wubi

2007-12-29 Thread Dennis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Using wubi with Ubuntu 7.04 on a 120Gb Hard drive, not partitioned,no other
applications
The first time i installed it, my internal drives were not recognised.
After I updated the drives were recognised but Hardware abstraction layer not
initilasing and my other hard drives are known by sdf1 etc.
I am an Amiga user from way back, a windows XP user now.
I have tried in the past to install Linux of other types but it was a pain to
remove it.
Wubi allowed a simple install in a Hard Drive that I made spare.
Do you think my HAL problem would be cured if I upgraded to 7.10.
Sorry to sound so ignorant, but I do need to know if I should persevere.
XP SP2 Dual Core Pentium, 2GB Ram, ATI Radeon 9600 Graphics card.
4 internal Hard Drives, 3 external (USB ports) Hard Drives.
If Windows thrash drives I do not want to be caught when they pack up, hence
lots of backups to other drives.
Please help
Dennis

[Bug 163090] Re: Login screen runs with different screen resolution than desktop

2007-12-29 Thread Jari J. Lehtinen
I'm having the same trouble along with some others on the ubuntu forums.
My desktops are running [EMAIL PROTECTED], but the login screen remains
[EMAIL PROTECTED], which doesn't look very nice on my monitor(Eizo Flexscan
T662-T).

According to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage the problem
seems to reside in package gdm. This phenomenom came to me along with
some updates to GutsyBeta, I thought it was due to an update of xorg.

Additionally, occasionally the user desktops also start with that ugly
resolution. Seems to me that there's something wrong with the hardware
recognition and the system configures the display system with default
settings against settings given in xorg.conf. And remember, this thing
worked fine with Feisty and in the early stages of Gutsy Beta.

I can confirm, what William wrote. I tried to move
./.gnome2/accels/rhythmbox, ./.gnome2/rhythmbox and
./.gconf/apps/rhythmbox, the Music folder and downloaded Podcasts out of

When the segfault first occurred, I realized that I have several seconds
to access the GUI before the crash. So I had the chance to disable all
plugins before it crashed. But it doesn't help. Now all plugins are
disabled and I the crash occure at the moment the GUI drops in front.

[Bug 159262] Re: gdm doesn't call usplash_down

2007-12-29 Thread Geoff Goehle
I've figured out why this bug is there. Xubuntu uses gdm, but gnome
doesn't call usplash from gdm, it calls it from somewhere else.
Actually, if anyone knows where, could you tell me? In any case, either
Xubuntu is going to have to use a different version of gdm from gnome
(one with a usplash_down call), or or things are going to have to be
modified in xfce so that it calls usplash_down in the same way that
happens for gnome.

[Bug 13983] Re: Evolution virtual trash / real trash on IMAP server

Wouldn't the fix for this problem, be to expunge your messages? Why
do you keep so many delete messages around? Evolution is correct with
the way it handles deleted mail(marked as delete not moved to trash).
Other clients can be configured to work in this way and is the way the
IMAP standard says it should work.

Thank you for reporting this bug and helping make Ubuntu better.

e-d-s seems to have run out of memory... was this an once-only thing, or
did it happen more than once? Does e-d-s memory allocation grows with
time?

and, most important, can you run valgrind against e-d-s? Please see

us very much...

meanwhile I will look ustream for a matching scenario.

[Bug 150379] Re: Nautilus built-in search doesn't work if tracker is disabled

2007-12-29 Thread Steve K
Nuts. The fix mentioned above only lasted for a few hours - today Nautilus
search is dead again. But I do think that my adventure defines the bug at
hand as a Tracker, not a Nautilus problem.
It may also be useful to know that about the same time these problems started
here, the Amarok collection indexer died - it now loops continually, tying up
system resources and making the program unusable - may or may not be related.

[Bug 179244] [Gutsy] unpacking to a gnome-vfs-mount stopped working

When downloading an archive file using Firefox with file-roller as a
target (or a local file), unpacking to a gnome-vfs-mount (ssh in this
case) does not work. This did work in Feisty. The Gnome Open dialog
hangs until a local catalog is choosen instead of a remote.

There is no error messages shown when file-roller is started in a

The Open File dialog from Archive Manager does not show any (Nautilus)

[Bug 178555] Re: [Hardy Alpha 2] No usable audio plugin detected

2007-12-29 Thread James Blackwell
Installing the libpt-plugins-alsa package should solve your problem.

The bug should be avoidable with further packages by setting up a
dependancy for this package either with ekiga or a package that ekiga
depends upon; perhaps libesd-alsa0.

I'm using 2.20.0 and I can't find *any* method of setting shortcut keys.

[Bug 179252] restricted plugins message shows a button, the link for which is incorrect

2007-12-29 Thread Tharakan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

restricted plugins message shows a button, the link for which is
incorrect. It seems like a simple repeatable bug.

For e.g. instead of http://ubuntu.com/restrictedplugins/

the button instead opens up the default browser (in my case firefox) with this
link:
file:///home/robins/'http://ubuntu.com/restrictedplugins/'

It seems somehow the user's home folder is prepended to the restricted
page URL.
