And you lock the system by pressing the lock button or the shortcut ctrl+alt+l The screensaver tries to start on both screen but crashes xorg. gdm will restart it self. bug #151253 was marked invalid due to lack of a backtrace. [Bug 136529] Re: Can't log in after upgrading
Oh well, it seems my problem regarding the not-starting GNOME session is only the tip of the iceberg. Remember you told me to remove gdm from being automatically started at boot time jtholmes? Well, I did this yesterday and after it didn't work out the way it should, I restored the settings with update-rc.d gdm defaults. Afterwards I didn't boot the kernel 2.6.24-3 anymore - until now. It seems that the running order of the programs at boot time has changed now (which isn't a problem at all) and now cupsys gets loaded before gdm. That shouldn't be a problem, only that now my systems stops booting when trying to load cupsys and GDM doesn't show up anymore. So I switched to a console, only to find out that the cups daemons are obviously running, but so is also the S20cupsys script (which should have long exited by now). Okay, I thought that maybe it's all the fault of the printer service and deactivated it (via update-rc.d -f cupsys remove) and rebooted my machine. GDM started up then, I logged in - and still the GNOME session just stops loading after a few seconds. So I switched to a console, did ps -e - only to see that now the NFS autostart script (S20nfs-kernel-service) stopped responding. The nfsd daemons were loaded, but the script didn't exit. So I also deactivated nfs, only to see that after a reboot it showed the same behaviour with the Samba daemons. And now I'm really at a loss here. To me it seems that the system just doesn't boot completely and maybe that's exactly the problem with my not-starting GNOME session. I don't know for sure though - for that I'm just too unexperienced. -- Can't log in after upgrading https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/136529 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 181420] Re: evolution
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. However, when trying to Search using the Category in the Contacts, which I have tailored to suit my requirements, it has also caused Evolution to crash. I Click on the Drop-down, which when I then select the Category wanted, causes the Crash. Putting a Name, or Part-Name has caused a crash. Scrolling using the Mouse Wheel has caused a crash. I need Evolution for Work Requirements, so have little choice in what I can do. Could you not do a Port of MS Outlook? However, I think that you'll get the what you need here : https://answers.launchpad.net/ rather than in the bug report which should only contains comments and informations that will help developers to make fast and proper fixes. [Bug 174715] Re: Re: System log closes when trying to view Apache2 logs
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: gnome-utils (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- Re: System log closes when trying to view Apache2 logs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/174715 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 179708] Re: evolution tries to set up when unwanted
Pedro - thanks for the reply, but it's not a difficulty but an issue with the way Ubuntu handles processes - if Microsoft can do it better, then Ubuntu will be shooting itself in the foot which would be a real shame after so much work has gone into it: I have tried to move over to Ubuntu but find that there are still obstacles if one is a serious user (as opposed to soemone who enjoys messing around with computers and getting round 'difficulties'). There are many areas of Ubuntu where M/S just has a better 'feel' about their software and things are better thought through - compare Apple's user friendliness with M/S's - to get an idea of the difference I'm writing about.
