On the development question, I would like to assist, but as a user, for a company, it is not conducive to use company time. The other problem, is I have yet to find an alternate OS that I can install onto one of my laptops, where it will not damage the hard drive, SUSE damaged my laptop in a previous attempt, and it was a Single Make-Clean/Make-Boot install. I use Ubuntu, and like Kubuntu in the Hot Disk form, but I am concerned with the issues with install (and Restore to WinOS should things not go to plan). Regards. Kevin P. [Bug 181742] Rhythmbox does not respect file permissions
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox Numerous bug reports have been submitted about Rhythmbox's handling of ID3 tags, so it is clear that its ID3 support is (yet) less than perfect. I still like RB as a player, though. To avoid it corrupting my tags, I therefore removed write access from my MP3 files. However, it is still possible to edit a file's tag in RB, and it even turns write permission back on. Steps to reproduce: 1. Give an MP3 file only write permissions (444). 2. Locate the file in RB's music library, and edit its ID3 tag info. Expected result: - Rhythmbox should give an error message saying it does not have permission to edit the file. - File should be unchanged. Actual result: - ID3 tags are changed (and, I might add, somewhat corrupted). - MP3 file gets write permission (644). If this functionality is intentional, this can be considered an enhancement request instead of a bug. In my opinion, applications should generally respect file permissions. I am using Rhythmbox 0.11.2 on an up-to-date Gutsy Installation. ** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Rhythmbox does not respect file permissions https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/181742 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 173721] Re: Gnome keyboard layout options (like remapping Caps Lock) are not reapplied after reboot
The annoying thing is that somehow even coding these options into the keyboard layout doesn't work. See bug #138467. I thought there might be a relationship, but the other users presumably didn't hack their layouts like I did. I have two layouts, one that switches caps/ctrl itself and one that doesn't. After a login the switch isn't active on any of them, and after disabling/enabling it in the layout options tab it is active on both. (Ideally, I'd prefer to be able to have this work differently on the two layouts, i.e. switched on my hacked layout and 'normal' on the other. It doesn't seem possible, and it wasn't even before this bug.) -- Gnome keyboard layout options (like remapping Caps Lock) are not reapplied after reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/173721 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Manual edit of the URL in Firefox to remove the four characters amp; would then allow eBay to locate the item. [Bug 27014] Re: evolution bug, Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync
As this bug is rather important for Evolution, as it shows up very frequently, involved people probably would like to know this: http://mail.gnome.org/archives/desktop-devel-list/2008-January/msg00057.html Fragment from this http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=213072 = Error Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync 87 dups total, 10 in the last 30 days. [Bug 181760] gconfd becomes confused when $HOME is temporarily unavailable
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gconf I'm testing kerberos with NFSv4, and this particular bug has been annoyed me for too long, sorry for not filing it earlier.. When your $HOME is on a network filesystem protected by kerberos, you lose all access priviledges when the kerberos ticket expires (usually 12h). So for instance if you lock your screen after the work hours, sometime in the night the apps don't have access to your $HOME anymore. When you unlock the screen, the ticket is refreshed and all is well (pam_krb deals with that, gnome-screensaver et al support that). But, gconfd can become confused some time after the ticket has expired. I don't know what happens, but it doesn't regain the ability to use the $HOME when the ticket is refreshed, instead the app that needs to poke at the configuration spawns a new daemon. This obviously brings problems every time an app tries to save some setting, so you get an error-popup when you just hit the capslock (No database available to save your configuration). Killing all the gconfd's is a workaround, but obviously not what I'm after :) Please let me know how to debug this further. ** Affects: gconf (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gconfd becomes confused when $HOME is temporarily unavailable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/181760 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gconf in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 181742] Re: Rhythmbox does not respect file permissions
** Description changed: Binary package hint: rhythmbox Numerous bug reports have been submitted about Rhythmbox's handling of ID3 tags, so it is clear that its ID3 support is (yet) less than perfect. I still like RB as a player, though. To avoid it corrupting my tags, I therefore removed write access from my MP3 files. However, it is still possible to edit a file's tag in RB, and it even turns write permission back on. Steps to reproduce: - 1. Give an MP3 file only write permissions (444). + 1. Give an MP3 file only read permissions (444). Re: [Bug 181055] Re: Evolution Crashes when Using The Search
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 135471 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/135471 My suggestion of using Korganizer was done from the Keep business moving frame of mind. Switching to Korganizer does not preclude helping to get Evo fixed. It mearly lessens the frustration in a production environment by providing a temporary solution to a critical need. Apport seems to be a big help in submitting crash reports and I'll use it in the future. For now, for whatever reason, Evo is working for catagory search and Any field Contains search. This is a great help. Yesturday, it was not functional even after enabling Proposed as an update option and forcing an update. Nothing came through. I then turned off Proposed, and did receive an update this morning for ssh related items but nothing for Evo that I saw. However it works.. :) Thanks to all in the team that helped fix this problem. -- Evolution Crashes when Using The Search https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/181055 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
