[Bug 186303] [NEW] gdm makes you log-in twice

2008-01-27 Thread Phil Bull
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

When the computer first starts, the gdm login screen is shown. On
entering my username and password, the password text entry goes
grey/insensitive for a second or so, and then gdm disappears and drops
to the terminal (or sometimes just a blank screen). I am not logged in.

A second or two later, gdm reappears. On entering my username and
password again, I am logged-in successfully.

This has happened on every log-in for the last few days.

[Bug 186307] [NEW] Window List Invisibility Issue (Programs Disappear And Come Back Randomly)

2008-01-27 Thread DevFred
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Every now and then the applications opened that appear in my window list
on my gnome panel simply become invisible.

To fix this I have to open a new window or close a window so it refreshes and
shows everything again.
This happens quite frequently, and quite randomly, and is very frustrating, I
want this fixed badly.

I included some screenshots of when it is normal, and when it happens.

I also notice that sometimes it takes the window list a second or so to
refresh. For example, if I would open Firefox it would take a second or two
for window list to display Firefox on itself, same when closing, this doesn't
happen all the time though.

[Bug 154504] Re: Gnome-panel hangs and allocates all possible ram.

2008-01-27 Thread Mr_C
I've got the same problem. The 8th running window causes that gnome-panel
(2.20.1 on U7.10) doesn't respond. I've never been using evolution-alarm-notify.
This bug occurs only when panel with standard Window List applet is placed on
the left or right vertical edge of the screen.
Left panel is long for whole height of the screen. More than 70% of it is only
a free space for Window List. Unfortunately buttons corresponding to open
windows behave as there is only about 30% of space. Only seven buttons can fit.
After opening the 8th window, next button doesn't appear, gnome-panel doesn't
work and memory leak is fast (about 1,5MB per second).
After being killed gnome-panel starts again working or leaking (of course it
depends how many (= or 7) windows are open).

[Bug 186324] [NEW] Evolution still does not use gnome-keyring in hardy

2008-01-27 Thread tyler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I' ve set up my e-mail account (pop3 with ssl) in evolution under hardy.

I had deleted the .gonme2_private folder before doing that.

After I gave my password to fetch the mails from the server, the folder was
recreated with the Evolution file in it containing my password in base64
encoding.
I checked, if there was a new password entry in seahorse, but there was none.

This is not, what is expected, since evolution can now use the gnome-
keyring to securely store passwords.

I consider this a security vulnerability, as everyone with access to the
machine can read my passwords, while I'm not logged in, while the gnome-
keyring would prevent this (and make password managing way easier)

Please turn on gnome-keyring support for evolution.

[Bug 186345] [NEW] histogram disappears in gimp's curves tool

2008-01-27 Thread Tom Kirby
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

Hi,

I'm using Gutsy (Ubuntu 7.10) and Gimp 2.4.2-0ubuntu0.7.10.1.

When I bring up the curves tool, the histogram appears briefly, and
immediately disappears. This happens every time. I think it might only
have started happening when the package manager updated gimp from the
release candidate version that came with Gutsy to the full 2.4.2
release.

It's a really annoying bug, because it prevents me from adjusting the
curves on an image properly, so help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Tom Kirby

Oh, found it.

With
sudo gtk-update-icon-cache -f /usr/share/icons/hicolor
you can regenerate the icon cache,
gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/panel
resets the icons.

[Bug 186365] [NEW] Please move xdg-user-dirs depend to Suggests

2008-01-27 Thread C.Kontros
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

The recommend Nautilus now has on xdg-user-dirs has changed the
default presentation of Ubuntu Studio in a way contrary to how the devs

Please move xdg-user-dirs depend to Suggests so Ubuntu Studio wouldn't

[Bug 183891] Re: New issue in Gutsy: First call of the day crashes Ekiga

2008-01-27 Thread Will
This has happened again today and last Saturday when I used Ekiga. It
happens every time I use Ekiga for the first time after my PC has booted
up. It seems to be very reproducible. Ekiga is fine after I kill Ekiga
and restart it.

Has anyone else had this issue? (I am using CIF sized images by the way, I
wonder if this makes any odds? Mind you, a friend of mine has the same Ekiga
config on Gutsy and the same webcam and does NOT suffer this issue. Perhaps it
is my PC hardware? Sound system/graphics card???)
I have a shuttle-like PC, Intel Celeron CPU...

[Bug 141160] Re: When remote desktop access is disabled, vino-session will still run

2008-01-27 Thread Giorgio Vazzana
I think vino-session should be disabled, here's why:

1)
This happens because vino on Ubuntu (which was merged from debian)
is compiled with --enable-session. Without that flag, the process
responsible for start/stop the deamon is gnome-session.

 So, there are two ways:
 1) patch gnome-session to watch that key and run vino-server when the key is
 true.
 2) deploy its own 'watcher', called vino-session, by passing --enable-session
 to configure.

Please read here:

http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-gnome-
maintainers/2007-July/036018.html

I think we don't need vino-session because gnome-session is _already_ patched
to watch the GConf key. To see that do the following:
a) disable vino-session (see below)
b) start gconf-editor and set /desktop/gnome/remote_access/enabled as true
c) result: you'll see that vino-server has been started (ps -e w | grep vino)
d) now set /desktop/gnome/remote_access/enabled as false
e) wait some seconds
f) result: you'll see that vino-server has been killed
g) another proof: if you kill vino-server (killall vino-server) you'll see that
in the file .xsession-errors appears the following line: Session manager:
gsm-remote-desktop.c:107: remote desktop server died, restarting, and the file
gsm-remote-desktop.c belongs to the gnome-session package.

2)
In the file /usr/share/gnome/default.session vino-session has Priority=50, but
for some reason gnome-session-properties reports a priority of 05, and I
haven't been able to change this priority, so I think this is a bug.

3)
If I use vino-session and remote desktop is enabled, when I log out from gnome
and then I log in again, gnome hangs and I can only see the brown background,
but no panels or icons. File .xsession-errors reports:
1198440598.912730 Session manager: gsm-remote-desktop.c:107: remote desktop
server died, restarting
1198440598.916107 Session manager: gsm-remote-desktop.c:107: remote desktop
server died, restarting
1198440608.837906 Session manager: gsm-remote-desktop.c:130: activation of
OAFIID:GNOME_RemoteDesktopServer failed: System exception:
IDL:omg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0

How to disable vino-session: open /usr/share/gnome/default.session then 1)
change the value of num_clients from 6 to 5 2) comment the three lines starting
with 5. Your default.session should look like mine (see attachment). Now log
out and log back in again.
John, Sebastien, please let me know what you think. Thanks.

[Bug 186408] [NEW] Contacts missing after deletion of one contact

2008-01-27 Thread Michael Wallace
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Added a contact and I used the calendar to scroll back to June 1987 to
enter their birthdate. Contact left a blank spot in the contact list.
I added same contact but this time I typed in the contact's birthdate.
Evolution prompted if I wanted to add duplicate and I answered yes. Now
both contacts were listed. Selected the first and pressed Delete.
Entire contact list was now entirely gray. I selected Calendar and
then Contacts and Evolution hung. I exited Evolution and could not
restart Evolution until I rebooted the operating system. Contact list
is still gray.

2008-01-27 Thread Giorgio Vazzana
Ok, now I am sure :) I just downloaded the sources for the gnome-session
package (apt-get source gnome-session). In the file gnome-session-2.20.1
/gnome-session/ChangeLog you can read:

 2.7.91

* Makefile.am: add gsm-remote-desktop.[ch].

* gsm-remote-desktop.[ch]: add support for activating

[Bug 186416] [NEW] Gdm / Ati crash Problem (debian version backup) will not accept '/' in password so I can't log reboot

2008-01-27 Thread John H.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Gdm / Ati crash Problem (debian version backup) will not accept '/' in
password so I can't log in reboot.

The original crash is from Ati and Gdm no problem I can live with that.
However, the backup marked as debian boot loader will not accept my strange
password
specifically it rejects '/' thus I can't log in. That is a problem.

This was an upgrade and I noted some notes above about passwords. Although I
don't
feel it applies since unless it crashes my password works fine in
Ubuntu/Solaris/OpenSolaris/OS X/Vista/Windows XP

Thanks
Jhawk

Mine does the same thing. The frustrating part is the drive (an external

from the drive was removed. With a lot of songs, this is a real pain in
the @$$ and it takes several minutes to detect all the songs again.

[Bug 186444] [NEW] Nautilus persistently segfauls when default icon size set over 100%

2008-01-27 Thread Mike MacCana
Public bug reported:

Edit Preferences Default Zoom Level to anything greater than 100%
causes Nautilus 1:2.21.6-0ubuntu2 to persistently segfault.

I use a default icon size of 150% normally. After upgrading to the
current Hardy packages, nautilus 1:2.21.6-0ubuntu2 persistently crashed.
After clearing my old gnome configuration, and re-applying each of my
normal settings, I noticed the above issue.

Setting the icon size back to 100% via gconf-editor avoids the crashes.
Setting the icon size back to say 200% will cause the crashes again.

[Bug 136711] Re: Show Hidden Files broken in common dialogs

2008-01-27 Thread Patryk J
I can confirm this within Firefox (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US;
rv:1.8.1.11) Gecko/20071204 Ubuntu/7.10 (gutsy) Firefox/2.0.0.11), but not in
gEdit.
I've testing this in several situations (save page as, save download, open
file, save frame as). The two features that repeat the bug are save download
and save frame as. Save Download is described below:

Make sure your Firefox settings allow you to pick the location to save
downloads:
Edit - Preferences - Main - [Downloads] - (*) Always ask me where to save
files

Click on a link (anywhere) that will prompt you to download a file.
1. When the Download Dialog appears (Open/Save); Make sure Save to Disk is
selected and click OK
2. The File-Picker window appears. Browse to your home directory, right-click,
mark Show Hidden Files.

At this point, the hidden files appear. If you repeat the last step (step 2),
everything works normally. Leaving Show Hidden Files checked;
3. Click the Cancel button.
4. Repeat steps 1 and 2 (in order): The result will show a partial listing of
the hidden files/directories in your home directory --limited to the number of
NON-hidden files/directories in your home directory.

Conclusion / Evaluation:
It seems that upon returning and removing the Show Hidden Files option, the
directory listing is truncated to the correct NUMBER OF ITEMS
(files/directories) that are NOT hidden, but their actual names are not updated.
Looks like a missing step in the standard operation of updating a directory
listing.

At the time of writing this, I had just installed fresh from a 7.10
(gutsy) disc. I'm running a 64bit version (core 2 quad).

[Bug 154504] Re: Gnome-panel hangs and allocates all possible ram.

2008-01-27 Thread Andrew Perry
Yes, I can confirm this behavior exactly. The bug only occurs when there
are 8 windows in the window list and it is positioned on a left of
right vertical panel. Thanks for spotting this Mr_C the workaround
is to put the window list applet on a bottom or top panel.

I thought it was an U7.10 x64 specific bug, however I've now reinstalled
with U7.10 i386, and gnome-panel also hangs when the Window list has 8
and is in a left or right panel.

[Bug 186490] [NEW] Wrong capitalisation in packaging (debian/)

2008-01-27 Thread dieguito
Public bug reported:

Hey!

while trying to merge ubuntu package to debian, I noted that you have
modified the capitalisation in control{,.in} replacing GNOME Panel for
GNOME panel. The correct name should be Panel, since this is a silly
thing increasing the diff generated between debian and ubuntu debian/
dir, I though you would like to know.

Just do a s/GNOME panel/GNOME Panel/ in your package ;).

[Bug 137247] Re: libpam-keyring broken on autologins

2008-01-27 Thread Ioannis
Why is this bug flagged as won't fix ? As far as I understand the
solution with the pam-keyring-tool is considered a 'hack'.

A user should be able to set auto-login and have their default keyring
work as before. I have the same problem, where I'm asked to unlock the
default keyring (once), when using auto-login. I even modified the
/etc/pam.d/gdm-autologin to include the missing line from
/etc/pam.d/gdm, to no avail.

And please don't get all technical. I don't know if this is a libpam-
keyring or gdm or whatever bug. Whatever it is, It's an annoying bug
which needs attention.

kind regards.

Well this is not really a bug, If you don't give your password to gnome-

workaround

[Bug 186497] [NEW] Hardy Alpha 3 Nautilus won't run executable files

2008-01-27 Thread jerrylamos
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Hardy Alpha 3 latest Nautilus 2.21.6 won't run executable text files.

I have an executable text file I call rsyn on the desktop that runs
rsync against hardy daily build, downloads the md5 sum, does an MD5 sum,
and compares the two. On Feisty Gutsy: select Places, Desktop, left
click twice on the executable, and it gives the expected option:

Do you want to run rsyn or display its contents?
and displays the following boxes:
Run in Terminal Display X Cancel Run
at which point I left click on the box Run in Terminal and away it goes.

On Hardy Alpha 3 Nautilus 2.21.6 gives this instead:

Couldn't display /home/jerry/Desktop/rsyn.
There is no application for this file type.
There is no display of the Run in Terminal, etc. boxes.

Has the very handy Feisty Gutsy Nautilus function been removed on
purpose, or is it busted?

Thank you, Jerry
