[Bug 182165] Re: Hardy - gnome-keybinding-properties shortcuts don't work

2008-02-07 Thread Ari Torhamo
Those media keys, which weren't working for me before, started to work
with the latest updates (which became available between yesterday
evening and this morning). It's funny though, that after the update I'm
no longer not able to assign a key to open my home folder - the same
thing that some others here already brought up. Oh, and the fourth of
the user selectable 'preset' keys doesn't work either - it probably
didn't work before either, but I'm not sure about that. So, everything
else but these two things seem to work. I didn't go through every single
item on the list, fro example I supposed that if 'move a window to work
space 1' works, then it works with other workspaces too.

[Bug 189850] [NEW] Gnome applets configuration reseted after hardy upgrade

2008-02-07 Thread Guillermo Pérez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

After an upgrade I'm experiencing strange problems:

The panel applets settings seems to have been reseted. For example the
revelation applet, was configured with a data file now asks You must
select a Revelation data file to use. Another example is the Multi Load
Applet. I have configured it to show all graphs: memory, network
traffic, ... but now it's in its default state, just a small cpu graph.
The clocks are in 12 hour format opposite to my settings (24h). The user
selector now show the name of the user (I have configured it to just
show the icon).

Strangely some (but only some) of the applets are in spanish -the
default system lang- but I always start session forcing language
english. NetSpeed, MultiLoad, the user selector, trash, workspace
switcher.

I don't know what could have reseted the gconf configuration, but is
very annoying...

Also the tomboy applet hangs on start. The .xsession-errors says:

** (gnome-panel:17527): WARNING **: panel-applet-frame.c:1278: failed to load
applet OAFIID:TomboyApplet:

[Bug 85961] [NEW] gnome-mount does not consistently display 'safe to remove' message

2008-02-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gnome-mount

If I freshly insert a USB pendrive then without doing anything, ask for
it to be unmount (via any of the GUI methods), I do not get a
notification from libnotify that it is safe to remove the pendrive.

However, if I insert it, copy some files, then unmount, I get very nice
data writing in progress, then safe to remove popups.

If it was by design to suppress the safe-to-remove notification when there is
no data written then please reconsider -- the user should receive notification
when it's safe to remove a pendrive, no matter how soon that may be :)

[Bug 128803] Re: [Gutsy] very slow gnome startup

2008-02-07 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Those comments are not really constructive, there is no obvious bug
there and the issues described might be a collection of different things
and incorrect user configurations. I did new dapper, feisty and gutsy
installation on a non-too-new machine some days ago using the same
partition and looked at the login speed there. Dapper takes 15 seconds
from gdm login validation to an usuable desktop loaded, feisty takes 18
seconds, gutsy takes 26 seconds. Without deskbar-applets in the
configuratin there is almost no difference between feisty and gutsy. The
login is clearly slower nowadays but that's only some seconds on a
default installation and can be explained by the features added since
dapper. Now it's likely that some users run into differents bugs, but
ideally whoever has the issue should try to look at if a stock user has
the same slowness, if not using tracker, deskbar-applet, compiz etc
change the speed, etc and comment there

[Bug 141077] Re: Package does not create POPPLER_DATADIR

2008-02-07 Thread Mitsuya Shibata
Sorry, this bug report is wrong.

It is problem that evince can not display Japanese (and probably
Chinese, Korean) PDF file without embedded fonts. When reads CJK PDF
file, poppler expects that there are CMap files for CJK in above
directories. But there are not its files and directories in current
version.

I have thought that it is poppler bug. However, I noticed that absence
of poppler-data package causes this problem. I am creating poppler-data
package, and closes this bug in changelog.

[Bug 189810] Re: (hardy) Evolution - tasks and/or memo quit unexpectedly when I click on the calendars button

2008-02-07 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in
a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

This bug was fixed in the package gnome-volume-manager - 2.22.1-1ubuntu1

gnome-volume-manager (2.22.1-1ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low

- debian/patches/01_set_defaults.patch: Ubuntu preferences for programs:
+ Audio CD burning: brasero -a
  + Photo import: f-spot-import
- debian/patches/07_low_disk_space_no_media.patch: Do not issue 'low disk

- debian/patches/95_ubuntu_auto_unmount_notifications.patch: Display

- debian/gnome-volume-manager.links: Add gnome-volume-manager-gthumb.sh

in old Ubuntu releases. Since this cannot be changed on system upgrades,
this needs to be kept indefinitely.
  * debian/patches/01_set_defaults.patch: Disable automounting and

[Bug 188004] Re: [hardy] on volume mounting, two nautilus windows are opened

2008-02-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gnome-volume-manager - 2.22.1-1ubuntu1

---
gnome-volume-manager (2.22.1-1ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low

  * Merge with Debian unstable. Remaining Ubuntu changes:
- debian/patches/01_set_defaults.patch: Ubuntu preferences for programs:
+ Audio CD burning: brasero -a
  + Photo import: f-spot-import
- debian/patches/07_low_disk_space_no_media.patch: Do not issue 'low disk
space' notifications for volumes mounted to /media/.
- debian/patches/95_ubuntu_auto_unmount_notifications.patch: Display
'unsafe device removal' notification if a device is removed without
  being unmounted. (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AutoUnmountNotifications)
- debian/gnome-volume-manager.links: Add gnome-volume-manager-gthumb.sh
symlink to /usr/share/gnome-volume-manager/, where it had been shipped
in old Ubuntu releases. Since this cannot be changed on system upgrades,
this needs to be kept indefinitely.
  * debian/patches/01_set_defaults.patch: Disable automounting and
autobrowsing of drives and media, since this functionality gets gradually
absorbed into nautilus. This breaks automounting of encrypted devices for
the time being, though (this needs to be fixed in nautilus). (LP: #188004)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 182165] Re: Hardy - gnome-keybinding-properties shortcuts don't work

All of the actual multimedia keys work for me now.

It would be great to have the issue with the fourth 'preset' key solved
though. I just did some further testing and noticed that this key works
flawlessly in Windows. The 'preset' keys from one to three also work in
Ubuntu regardless of which keyboard I select in the keyboard settings,
be it a multimedia, laptop, generic, Apple or any old keyboard from any
manufacturer. I propably should make a separate report of this one
though. Anyone else have the fourth 'preset' key not working? My
keyboard is the keyboard part of the Logitech Cordless Desktop Comfort

[Bug 189900] [NEW] Workspace switcher confused by switching between compiz and metacity

2008-02-07 Thread era
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

This could be a problem in compiz, in metacity, or in the Gnome
workspace switcher.

When I initially installed Gutsy, I set myself up with 4 x 2 workspaces.
Then I had to turn off Compiz (effectively switching to Metacity)
because of bug 133118. At that point, Metacity ended up with a fairly
weird workspace geometry, but all I had to do was right-click on the
workspace switcher and configure it back to 4x2 (I think by telling it 8
workspaces, 2 rows)

Now that 133118 is basically fixed, I switched back, and found myself
with the opposite problem: there are ghost workspaces from metacity
but compiz has this weird idea that there are 7 workspaces in a single
row (even though the preferences have 8, I can only switch between 7 of
them) and the workspace switcher displays another row underneath which I
cannot switch to.

Again, opening up the preferences and reconfiguring to 4x2 fixed this;
but it would be neat if it worked without these haphazard artefacts (and
also if the geometry was conceptualized the same way in both window
managers, i.e. either rows x columns or number of workspaces in how many
rows ... I think I prefer the former, as that doesn't have corner cases
like you would have with 7 in 2 rows, or 8 in 3 rows).

(Incidentally, I also have this on a different box where I use Sawfish
as my preferred window manager; again, it uses a different facility for
configuring the workspace and viewport geometry, which is not in sync
with the Gnome workspace switcher.)

Ubuntu 7.10, all of -proposed -securty -backports enabled

[Bug 189761] Re: Wrong localised keyboard layout

2008-02-07 Thread plun
It must be the same but Mr Bacher must maybe change/clarify it a little.

The bug is that despite of settings US/English keyboard is chosen.

I have only swedish keyboard within my settings box and it still chooses
english keyboard
after reboot.

If I just chooses another key board model, correct language is then
choosen until next reboot.

Maybe its also a bug within overall language settings because I cannot set
English, US or GB
without error that this language is missing. English and Swedish language
packs installed.

[Bug 43066] Re: Window list behaves bad when panel is vertical.

2008-02-07 Thread paskma
I've recorded demonstration of this bug, it can be found here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhCbnq08roA

It shows how the gnome panel completely freezes when more than 7 windows
is opened. Demonstrated on Hardy Alpha4, GNOME 2.21. This bug makes
vertical panel usage completely unusable.

This bug appeared in GNOME 2.20 (in 2.18 it was not perfect but it
worked). There are patches available in GNOME bugzilla #86382 but they
were not integrated.
