[Bug 189777] Re: gnome-panel freezes during keyring password entry

2008-02-21 Thread Rocko
I don't think it's a bug in gnome-panel anymore, but in gnome-keyring,
because of the following.

I managed to reproduce it by being connected at reboot via ethernet,
then removing the ethernet cable so that the password prompt window
appeared. At this point I tried to attach gdb, but I could not send
keyboard input to an open console when I selected it - all keyboard
input went to the gnome-keyring window, no matter where the mouse
pointer was or what I clicked on. Oddly, the mouse clicks seemed to work
- perhaps this is why the gnome-panel menu title indicates it is
selected (eg the 'Places' text will go into reverse text when you click
on it, but no menu actually appears).

This was in Gutsy (although with kernel 2.6.24-8) with these versions of
gnome-keyring:

ii  gnome-keyring  2.20-0ubuntu4
 GNOME keyring services (daemon and tools)
ii  gnome-keyring-manager  2.20.0-0ubuntu2
 keyring management program for the GNOME des
ii  libgnome-keyring0  2.20-0ubuntu4
 GNOME keyring services library
ii  libpam-gnome-keyring   2.20-0ubuntu4
 GNOME keyring services PAM module

[Bug 161116] Re: bizarre extra matching of TLD on mailto: URLs

2008-02-21 Thread Chris Jones
This is known upstream:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=452637

fwiw, I strongly suspect that this relates to the regexp used to match
email addresses, but I can't at all figure out why, so perhaps it is a
bug in the VTE code that checks the displayed text for regexp matches.

[Bug 193954] [NEW] g-keyboard-properties: Ctrl+character doesn't work as expected with multiple layouts

2008-02-21 Thread Adrien Cunin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Using hardy, I noticed that Ctrl+character shortcuts don't work as
expected when multiple keyboard layouts are selected in gnome-keyboard-
properties.

Here is how to reproduce the problem with France and USA layouts:
 - Add France/default variant and USA/default variant layouts
 - Select France as default
 - Launch gnome-terminal and see that Ctrl+Shift+A and Ctrl+Shift+Q both close
the terminal, while only Ctrl+Shift+Q should do it.
Note that A and Q are inversed in France and USA layouts.
Same with Z and W, Ctrl+Shift+W being used for closing a tab.

You can experience a similar problem in FileZilla, where Ctrl+A should
select All, but actually behaves like Ctrl+Q, closing the application.

There may be other things mixed up between the two layouts beyond the
Ctrl+character shortcuts.

[Bug 193719] Re: evolution-data-server-2.22 crashed with signal 5

2008-02-21 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 131743] Re: liferea-add-feed does nothing in firefox

2008-02-21 Thread Lee Braiden
I've seen this problem on both ubuntu and now debian. This is what I
get on debian:

$ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/iceweasel:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
$ strace  log /usr/lib/iceweasel/firefox-bin

(Here, I go to a site witha feed, click the rss icon, click the checkbox
to always subscribe to feeds using liferea-add-feeds, and then click
subscribe. Note that the chosen checkbox option never gets saved
either.)

$ grep liferea log
access(/usr/bin/liferea-add-feed, F_OK) = 0
stat64(/usr/bin/liferea-add-feed, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0755, st_size=660, ...}) = 0
stat64(/usr/bin/liferea-add-feed, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0755, st_size=660, ...}) = 0

So, it seems to look at the liferea-add-feed file, but never attempts to run it.

[Bug 193186] Re: [hardy] Evolution doesn't seem to be fully installed

2008-02-21 Thread hggdh
I do remember that, at least at one point in the hardy buildup, I did
get an E-D-S upgrade to propose Evo removal (new E-D-S had already been
put available in the repositories, but not the corresponding Evo).
During Hardy development, the KDE4 updates would every so often cause
this.

Every so often I get this type of upgrade behaviour during new releases
build-time (and also on Debian -- duh --). So, you are not alone (and I
guess a lot of others have also seen/got hit by this). So yes, this is
interesting, but mostly to highlight the dangers of running Alpha code:
it can be very dangerous to run a blind dist-upgrade.

What I do to survive in the bleeding edge:

1. I never run 'apt-get dist-upgrade' and then say 'Y' to the changes
without checking what is being removed. Every time I am using a box that
is running the bleeding edge, I *never* run 'apt-get dist-upgrade'.
Instead...

2. I usually run Synaptic, click on Mark all updates, then analyse
what Synaptic tells me -- and every so often I cancel *all* changes, and
go hunting for the, huh, bad, update(s), until I reach the one(s) that
propose to remove what I want to keep -- then I unmark the change(s),
and keep on. I guess once burned...

This process can be quite time-consuming if you dist-upgrade every few
weeks (a lot of changes to check on worst scenario)... but you will not
lose a loved piece of your system :-)

3. Still on Synaptic, after I have have /selected/reviewed all changes I
want, I go to Apply, and -- again -- I check the proposed changes,
with special attention on the removal list (usually, if the to be
removed list header is not bold, then I just go ahead and commit).
Otherwise I again check what will be removed. I guess, sigh, twice
burned, etc, etc.

In fact, while I was typing this response, I went into Synaptic and ran
an update/mark all changes (so that I could get the actual headers), and
found one library being removed. I cancelled all changes, searched for
the culprits, and found that the update proposing the library removal
was doing so because it was also requesting a new package version of the
library to be installed.

So... this is, I guess, it. Please tell me if you consider my answer
satisfactory (or go ahead and close this bug, if this is the case).

[Bug 131743] Re: liferea-add-feed does nothing in firefox

2008-02-21 Thread Lee Braiden
Hmm. I thought it might not be executing scripts that need shebang line
interpretation, but having just compiled a simple c program that prints
its args, and temporarily replaced /usr/bin/liferea-add-feed with it, I
see that this doesn't get called either. iceweasel/firefox seem to be
very broken. I don't know how you'd go about reassigning this bug to
firefox, but that should be done, imho. I've ran liferea-add-feed url,
and that does work for me.

[Bug 193961] [NEW] gnome-mount does not mount luks encrypted usb-drive

2008-02-21 Thread Thorsten Bonck
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-mount

I'm using a LUKS encrypted ext2 partitition on an usb stick to store
some data.

I expect following:
After sticking in, gnome-mount opens a dialog (like [1]) where it asks the
passphrase, after that it mounts the luksOpened cleartext-mapper.

What happens:
nothing visuable.
In /dev/disk/by-uuid there is a symlink created to the LUKS partition on my
stick.
gvm.log shows, that gnome-volume-manager recognizes an encrypted volume, but
nothing more happens.

How I got some maybe useful data to debug:
Followed instructions in [2], gvm.log, udev.log, lshal.txt, dmesg.txt and
devices.txt will be there as attachements.

The connection is working, but slowly (40 kb/s). It's due to the bit rate being

I have also tested with one other RT based I have, a RT73 one, and the

[Bug 193975] [NEW] All icons have disappeared from desktop after minimizing Firefox. Minimizing Firefox crashes Gnome.

2008-02-21 Thread cloverwench
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

All icons have disappeared from desktop after minimizing Firefox. They
are still present if I browse to desktop folder. Also, minimizing
Firefox has crashed Gnome on numerous occasions.

New to Linux (nearly totally green) so forgive me if I'm not providing
the right/enough info. I do regularly run the Update Manager and it says
things are up-to-date.

Ubuntu 7.10
Not sure what package you're looking for. 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' doesn't
return anything. Too many packages in Synaptic to know what to look for.
Minimized Firefox and desktop icons went away or minimize and Gnome crashes.
Expect it to not do either of those. :)

Thank you!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the
development release - Hardy Heron. It would help us greatly if you could
test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of
Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at

[Bug 193975] Re: All icons have disappeared from desktop after minimizing Firefox. Minimizing Firefox crashes Gnome.

2008-02-21 Thread Johannes Weiss
I can confirm this bug!
Unfortunately, it happens on my girlfriend's notebook and she is not here since
monday (will be back tomorrow), so I can not really provide very good
information, sorry!

The problems she has (after reboot everything works fine for a while, but
suddenly...):
- desktop icons disappear
- she cannot enter folders with nautilus (it hangs, after a LOOONG time it
opens the folders)
- the red logout/reboot/halt-button does not work (it does, too AFTER a loong
time)
- ...

I logged in over ssh and I could not even start nautilus for her (export
DISPLAY=:0; nautilus --no-desktop), nothing happened, but I then
restarted dbus (sudo /etc/init.d/dbus restart) and then MANY windows
(all the folders she tried to open before and some logout-screens)
appeared and I got disconnected (WLAN).

She has all security updates installed and the first time it happend was
probably monday or  tuesday.

HTH, regards
johannes
PS: Ahh, in her $HOME, there was a 273MiB!! file called .nautilus-debug.log or
so... (content: ... debug log dumped due to signal 11 MANY times)

[Bug 179282] Re: Importing 3000+ songs from windows network folder

2008-02-21 Thread Kevlar
This is the response I added back on 01-11-2008 ... I am unsure why it
did not stick here. (it was sent back via email to the person who sent
me the followup question)

---
By freeze, I mean the import process appears to freeze and all functionality is
lost. It is not really frozen, just moving extremely slowly. The best way to
describe it is if the machine has run out of physical memory and temporary HD
swap space and it is fighting to swap around memory to continue on with the
process. During the import process, when it reaches 3000 songs and it is
moving slowly, if I remove the songs that were already imported, all
functionality returns and it continues to pull in the songs that it had not
imported yet.

[Bug 150471] Re: [Gutsy] high processor activity after logging out and then logging in again

2008-02-21 Thread Nick Fishman
Like Jordan, I've also bin bitten by this bug on a dual LTSP server
network. We also have NFS home directories, which compounds the
slowness.

I just applied the updates for nautilus and nautilus-data from gutsy-
proposed. I'll see what happens over the next few days.

[Bug 148701] Re: Search function in File browser does not function

2008-02-21 Thread Nick Demou
Most of the times whining doesn't help at bugs getting fixed. Sometimes
it even delays fixing because developers get pissed off (also note that
the bug is triaged that is work on fixing it is about to begin)

regarding INDEXING MUST BE OPTIONAL, NOT MANDATORY: this choice is not
the topic of this bug.

[Bug 194025] [NEW] Cannot delete folders/files recursively in NTFS filesystem (Error removing file: File exists)

2008-02-21 Thread mlind
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

gvfs: 0.1.7-0ubuntu5
nautilus: 1:2.21.91-0ubuntu3

Not sure if this is a gvfs (or ntfs-3g?) bug, but appeared after the transition
from gnome-vfs.
nautilus cannot delete a folder in NTFS filesystem if the folder contains other
files/folders. This problem doesn't appear with ext3 at least.

Test case:
1. create a ntfs loopback file and mount it
$ sudo aptitude install ntfsprogs
$ dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/blah bs=1M count=2
$ sudo losetup /dev/loop0 /tmp/blah
$ sudo mkfs.ntfs /dev/loop0
$ sudo losetup -d /dev/loop0
$ mkdir /tmp/foo
$ sudo mount -t ntfs-3g /tmp/blah /tmp/foo

2. create a directory structure
$ mkdir -p /tmp/foo/bar/baz

3. try to remove /tmp/foo/bar using nautilus. A Error while deleting.
message should appear.

Is the patch still relevant in Hardy? Can it be updated? Also it might
help if you provide a debdiff for it:

[Bug 194021] [NEW] gedit keyboard shortcuts

2008-02-21 Thread Kim
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

Switching between tabs is done by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Pg Dn/Pg Up. In
almost every other application I use, ex. gnome-terminal and firefox its
Ctrl-Pgup/Pgdn. Could gedit change these settings? Or could it be
possible to change these settings in gnome-keyboard-shortcuts?

[Bug 193953] Re: [needs-packaging / updating] Please update gst-plugins to 0.10.7

2008-02-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
there is no need to hurry opening bugs about the new versions as soon as
they are available, that only gives extra work, in case you didn't
notice pre-version have been uploaded during the week and those will be
updated

[Bug 186353] Re: gnome-volume-manager does not start in Hardy

2008-02-21 Thread Lukas Hejtmanek
I found that problem is in function gvm_console_kit_seat_get_sessions.

do {
if (dbus_message_iter_get_arg_type (elem) ==
DBUS_TYPE_OBJECT_PATH) {
dbus_message_iter_get_basic (elem, path);
g_ptr_array_add (sessions, g_strdup (path));
}
} while (dbus_message_iter_next (elem));

this iteration is done but the condition in the if statement never
holds.
